Cape 31 - How Round 1 was won

The Cape 31 been the talk of the town for some time here in the UK but in recent months the class has exploded. For the first event of a six round 2023 Solent season there were 25 boats entered as part of the RORC's Vice Admiral's Cup. The fleet is expected to grow even further for the second event, the National Championships in June. This is also a class that is growing internationally, so little surprise that there was so much attention for Round 1.
Matt Sheahan was on the water and reports on the action.

Very good coverage and expert analysis. Being in Texas, I don't get to see this class of racing. Thanks for taking me along.

History shows that classes allowing 3 pros per boat won’t last very long with big numbers once the spending race really starts and Corinthian competitors are quickly outpaced and don’t have deep enough pockets to bring on three pro sailors.

For me this was a great introduction to an emerging class. Pros vs Corinthians? Not sure that I mind, but classes without Pros tend to have a 'longer life span'. I love both emerging technology and classes, but equally enjoy longer 'legged' classes.
