Canyon Spectral CF 8 KIS Review | Is this the future of mountain bike steering?
Спорт

Last year Canyon introduced the new KIS system. The original concept was developed and licensed by Jo Klieber of Syntace and Liteville, and it's claimed to offer big benefits to your bike's handling. In fact, Canyon's engineers were so impressed with the on-trail results that they managed to secure a 12-month exclusive on the technology. The Spectral CF 8 is the first bike to feature the KIS system, but the German brand has indicated it'll be rolling it out to many more models in the near future.
So is this the best invention since the dropper post, like Canyon claims? We got our hands on a test bike back in December, and we've spent the last six months putting it through the grinder across a wide variety of terrain to get a deeper understanding of how it works and to find out if this really is the future of mountain bike steering.

It really is the solution to a problem that no one had.
Although many see this system as a 'solution for a non-existent problem', I'd challenge that perspective. As a disabled rider (I only have one hand), stability is an issue for me. I use a prosthetic to support my riding but even then, my left side of my body is just not as strong as my right. Having a system like this is definitely beneficial to riders with similar disabilities, even if that is not what Canyon's target market was.
you are the best
Really good insights! Makes me want to try this for sure. Also 4:33, my heart skipped hahha!
Im looking at this video because i am looking at the KIS mullet with the rockshox suspension, coil shock and transmition drivetrain. This video was really helpful (was originally looking at a Strive and then a polygon) so thanks Flow!
Awesome epik beautiful bike and video
Just to double check , Canyon are charging another 700 bucks for two drilled holes in the frame and a spring?

TWO springs. Also a piece of nylon fabric.

@@GHinWI oh yes cant forget about 2 bucks of materials
Wait, some frame manufacturers have claimed that one of the main benefits to headset cable routing is that drilling/forming holes in the frame for cables to route through makes for weaker frames, yet here's one with gapping windows in the head and top tubes for a spring and string. Come on bike industry, get your lies straight. 🤣😂😅

Great observation!
Slack head angles calm down high speed steering so I guess this is kinda like that concept without needing a 63 degree HA?
So much negativity in the comments! There doesn’t need to be a problem with how we currently do things for there to be a better or improved way. Sure, problems force change but trying something different for the hell of it can bring progress too. Anyway, more importantly, how rad are Wil’s overalls/ dungarees?!!! Do they have room for knee pads? Comfy enough for an all day ride? What’s the pocket situation? So many unanswered questions……

Dude you're asking the most important questions.
This is a clear example of a solution in search of a problem, in my view. I was not surprised at the number of reviewers who gushed about this when it came out. $ponsor$
I disagree about this being a solution to a problem that doesn't exist because you stated the problem before - wheel flop and instability. It's not a major one but sometimes subtle improvement can reap great benefits. I love the unique colour of the frame too - looks fantastic!
KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) Let’s just lump this right in there with headset cable routing STOP 🛑
We had steering dampeners in the 90's They didn't stick back then. Maybe with todays slacker geo there is now a true place for them?
so basically they made a steering damper for bikes...something motorbikes has had for a long time....exactly why is this revolutionary??

not really, its not damping anything it's just a spring
For riding 'no handed' to me...Ha!
K.I.S is like the KISS principle Keep It Stupid..... Stupid
This is how forks started, with springs. Then they went to air compression with stanchions. Next for KIS is same - air pressured stanchions, and then progressive tokens 😂

You could very well be right.
Some last word to barspins anyone ? 😅
Why oh why did they need to put K.I.S. on the top tube? 😂 looks so dumb. Might be a cool system but only if it literally disappears into the build IMO.
@martinekliw

Its inside the tube 🤷 Its just the preload adjustment which is outside.
@ShredQuest

@@martinekliw I totally get that. I just think it would have looked better aesthetically to not include the acronym.

@@ShredQuest Ah ok.. thought you meant the system itself 😅
Seems so unnecessary. Every "problem" it solves, isn't a problem.
Sounds like a neat widget. Too bad you have to ride a Canyon to use it.
NO!
