Canteen Cup Tuesday, Bean and Bacon Soup

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I needed to use up the beans I bought for New Years so here we go with a simple soup for camp.
Here is the recipe I used so you can get an idea for how I convert it to the canteen cup.
16 oz of dried Great Northern Beans or Cannellini Beans
8 oz of sliced bacon sliced, chopped
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped carrots
1/2 cup chopped celery
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 32 oz cartons reduced sodium chicken broth
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. black pepper
3 Tbsp tomato paste
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley or chives (optional)
As always thank you Floridaboy Bushcraft and Survival and MTWoodsrunner for the whole CCT idea.

Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying them. I've been itching to head your way for a hike. I usually get a winter hike in Dec. of Jan. in the NC or SC mountains. I have not made though this winter. Maybe a spring hike this year.

That looks really good, Bead. I often add a little water to my saute, especially when I'm cooking outside. It speeds up the process and a little more broth never hurts. Thanks for sharing!

I never thought of it as an option till I saw it done in some vegan cooking. They seemed to add very little just enough to wet the pan so the food does not stick. Thanks for watching.

Looks and sounds mighty good , going have to make a batch here at the house. I will add one more ingredient , A nice slice of Cornbread to go along with it. Bean soup with out cornbread is like a Root Beer Float without the Vanilla Ice Cream. It's still good but just not complete.

I really like your videos because you seriously cook, not just heating up something. Where do you get those candle stoves from?? I've looked everywhere and can't find them in my area. Thanks for another video. I tend to google Mug recipes for microwaves and adjust those. Find some really nice ones. Do you have a PO box for people to send stuff to you?? Just wondering.

Those are a wicked chafing fuel. They work better than the gel for this application. A party event or restaurant supply store should have them. Dollar Tree carries a smaller one in their party section. I buy them in a flat of 12 from Sam's. Amazon has them but I think Sam's is cheaper if you have access to one. Here is a link for what I use. www.amazon.com/Bakers-Chefs-Daily-Chef-Safe/dp/B01LONIVY8/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=chafing+burner&qid=1553009549&s=gateway&sr=8-8 The PO Box I am currently using is: Journey of Bear PO Box 1016 Rock Hill SC, 29731 That may change latter this summer / fall to a different address. Thanks for watching. I like to showcase that you can cook at camp and it does not have to cost a ton of money to get outside. I'll have to search the mug recipes. That is a new one for me. Thanks for the idea.

Bear, you really kicked it up a notch with that recipe. I love beans and that dish looked absolutely delicious. I'm going to have to try that one. You soaked the beans overnight I guess. How long did you have to cook them in the canteen cup to get them soft or the way you like them anyway? Keep the great cooking videos coming, I really enjoy them. I just posted a Canteen Cup Tuesday video also........Take care, Bluefin.

Yes, I soaked them ahead of time. These cooked up in about an hour. That is why I used to chafing fuel to cook them. It would be a good one to set by a fire while you hang out. They can cook longer the beans will just get softer. It is not a rushed meal for sure. Thanks for Watching.
