    It would be awesome if Legere would update this with time stamps bookmarks where the players were named .. they certainly deserve the recognition for their performance. Unfortunately I do not know them most of them by faces.

    Whoa, I'm so impressed! For me it is quite a GREAT performance. There's about 1000 words I could use to describe what I've heard and what I've felt inside listening to this, but it's pointless - shortly speaking: brilliant improvisation!

    Derek Brown rises above the rest... not only for his "effects" (beatboxing) but also for his bebop licks. He wasn't sickeningly "bluesy" or "smooth".

    I am sometthing of an obsessive when it comes to Cantaloupe Island... and i must say I have heard dozens of versions of this golden nugget tune. The above version I awarded an 8 out of 10. I thought the funky off-beat angle worked well not least because all the musicians clearly feel and ride the groove seemlessly. Great stuff. Ravi.

    They are the worst of the players to be honest, the best soloist is the second tenor player because he was actually hitting the changes to the tune and creatively while putting in minor 2-5-1s that lead back into the one instead of playing a bullshit pentatonic like the rest of the players or holding an altissimo note for 18 bars. The last guy is just a gimmick that gets peoples attention, as impressive as it is hes not a good saxophone player.

  • @liammcmahan536

    @liammcmahan536

    6 жыл бұрын

    Music Bruh, if you actually knew the tune, there isn't a minor 2-5-1 in cantaloupe island. The piano is changing his voicing from time to time. You might be hearing a 2-5-1, but that is voice changing brother. Additionally, if anyone was hitting the chord changes, it was the trombone, Derek, and the alto sax. Just in case you need to know, here's the format for cantaloupe island: 4 bars of Gm7 or Gm11, 4 bars of Eb7alt or Eb7, 4 bars of Em7 or Esus7, 4 bars of Gm7 of Gm11. They aren't all using pentatonics either bro. The first tenor uses the whole tone scale, first alto has a chromatic conversion, and several times I hear harmonic minor. And if you aren't an idiot, you should hear that they are obviously using the Dorian mode quite a bit. Sure they use the pentatonic scale a lot, but they have every write to use. Kenny G mainly uses pentatonic scales but he makes more money than both of us, so don't call the pentatonic bullshit. Then, Derek is actually a fine sax player. During his improvisation, I'm hearing harmony perfectly fine. And his best boxing is for show, but he outlines the chordal tones during that too. Like bro, if you are going to critic, do it right.

  • @dontgetsentalink

    @dontgetsentalink

    6 жыл бұрын

    Liam McMahan I know there isn’t minor 2-5-1s that’s why I said he was inserting them into the tune leading back to the F Min which is why you can clearly hear him playing a C7 altered going back into 1... also just cause someone plays a whole tone scale once over the entire tune doesn’t mean that the rest of the stuff he is playing is nonsense. Congrats you ran up and down a scale on the Db7 and then went straight back to pentatonic bullshit... if you’re going to criticize my critique then at least understand what I wrote in my comment before you decide to come at me... Derek is still very tasteless and just uses gimmicks for people to enjoy his playing no real commitment to the tune itself
