If you want to see how good the video from the SX70 can be check out this owl video I shot recently: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6WsspWfkrO2krA.html Almost all of the new videos posted to my channel kzread.info now are with the SX70 - check out the original discussion of Canon Powershot and Nikon superzooms: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nGttyKetXcK-fNo.html One thing I have noticed that confirmed what I suspected is that battery life is shorter with the SX70 due to the switch to smaller lighter batteries.

I have now watched a few of your reviews and I find them to be of great assistance. Thank you. I currently have a Canon EOS 700D with std lens and 55-250mm lens, but I am after something a little more portable, with less need to carry a large bag, especially on holidays. I have been looking at the Canon SX70HS for a few weeks now, and after your review, I am more than ever convinced that it will meet my needs, which is generally holiday snaps and wildlife snaps around my 5 acres. Once again, a very straight-forward review. Thank you.

Great reviews of these cameras. I previously had the 50HS and 60HS but I gave them to family. I moved up to Nikons' D7000 and D850 with lenses but the cameras with lenses are heavy and not capable of the ultra-zoom. I'm going to Italy so I'll need an extra-wide angle and zoom. So I'll rebuy the 60HS since battery life is most critical. Thanks for the review and tips.

Thank you for the great videos. I am replacing a Powershot SX720 HS that was recently stolen/lost. I thought the pictures I took with it were great and was just going to get the SX740, but the SX70 seems to fill some holes that the SXxxx series cameras have. First, its a little larger and easier to hold than the tiny SX720. My major concern is picture quality, which seems to be a big drawback for many reviewers. You seem to be very happy with the camera and its picture quality. Are you doing something different from the other reviewers?? I am just an amatuer picture taker. Maybe I don't know what to look for. Help please.

I had ordered an SX60 after seeing this video because of the "hot shoe" mount and general cost. But, I recieved an SX70!!! I guess I got a better deal for my money since the SX70 is $160 more than the SX60 on AMAZON. So, guess I'll need get the stick on "cold shoe" accessory like you demonstrated here in this video 🤣. Especially since I've already ordered and received my microphone and LED light before my camera arrived lol. But, HOLY COW, the picture quality!!! I'm so happy with this SX70. Excited as heck to learn and master this camera!!!

Near the start of the video, you say that the old SX40HS does not have a hot shoe. Well, it does have a hot shoe! It’s just that it is hidden below a rubber/plastic cap on the top of the camera. Just remove that cap and you will see the hot shoe. Update: I should have read the other comments before posting. A few others mentioned the same thing. Anyway, I ordered a new SX70HS as an upgrade from my trusty 13 years old SX40HS. Looking forward to playing around with this new camera.

I have the SX 50 - the ISO dial/timer burned out shortly after I got it, but the rest worked fine til recently when the flash stopped working and the images are getting a lot softer. Not sure how it compares to the 40 and the 60. I used the P mode the majority of the time, but also the sports mode if I wanted everything in the picture in focus with no bokeh; never had any use for the digital zoom either. Lasted me 7-8 years. Looking for a new camera with similar settings and heard the settings had changed on the SX70. Was wondering how they compare to the SX50. I like a camera with weight and grip. That sounds contrary when you've got arthritis but it's what my hands preferred. Disappointed the removed the hotshoe. Even the SX50 had a hotshoe. I wish they'd use a larger sensor or an actual focus ring. (Regarding the 4k, someone has pointed out in another video that the human eye does not see in 4k. Most of the time KZread won't even play back 1080 automatically for me - I have to adjust it anywhere from 320, 480, and 720 that are playing "auto" to the 1080 and wait for it to buffer. Might have something to do with my internet speed. I noticed how clear this video is at 720/60fps - the SX50 had only the basics - 1080 was only 24fps. Really limited the quality. 30fps would have made a huge difference.) Much appreciation for going into the settings in such detail. Was considering throwing this out as an option, but might consider it after all.

You mention manual focus with the top dial on the 60 and 70. I have a SX60 and thought it strange that I had missed this. I have checked the manual/instructions and manual is only possible with the up/down buttons around the set button. The new controls on the lens will make this much easier. You did not mention the eye piece sensor to switch off the back screen when shooting looking through the viewfinder, I find having to press the display button several times to get back screen on a pain, changing settings when looking through the viewfinder is not what i prefer, I like to see the buttons when making a change. I also shoot with full size cameras and find these small cameras good but wish they were bigger, not easy to use.

I got the camera a few days ago and read the entire user manual that comes with it (that particular info is not in there). And the instructions on Canon’s website on how to save a still shot from video don’t work for me (the final icon in the string of icons per the instructions that I’m supposed to click to save it, isn’t visible on my camera) I need to know what I’m doing wrong 😩 please does anyone know??

The easiest way is to install a media player like VLC - its a free download. Then scroll through your video and pick out the frame you want and right click on it and under the video options there you can click "take a snapshot" and you'll have a still that you can take and process however you want. Good Luck! BB

I watched your video from 3 yrs ago when you were discussing possibly purchasing Nikon Coolpix P1000, but clearly you love your Canons! I've noticed in the recent videos you've filmed, most I've seen were filmed with Canon SX70. Did you ever shoot with the P1000? I've narrowed my choices between Nikon P950 and Canon SX70. I'm interested to hear if there is a difference in image quality. I take a lot of photos, mostly of birds & other wildlife. We enjoy traveling to western states and photographing large animals, so I know P950 has somewhat greater zoom. I'm certainly not going to dslr - we're retired and prefer spending any extra $ on travel, but I will spend on a new super zoom bridge camera. If you or any subscribers have info about Coolpix P900 - P1000 vs Canon SX70, I'd appreciate comments! Thank you for your wonderful videos!

If you are going to take mostly pictures I would tend toward the P1000 or P950 understanding that the best pictures at the highest zoom will tend to be jittery without a tripod or other means of steadying support. BB

Trust me they (SX70) are a total disappointment, the zoom is not as good as the SX60 or even the SX40, the hot shoe was removed, what is the point in adding a mic port if they're going to remove the hot shoe, makes zero sense, Canon doesn't care. SX40 has a hot shoe, but no mic input port. Which makes it difficult to make videos with good quality audio, of course you can record the audio separately but in my case I hacked the camera and used the internal mic wires and built a 3.5 mm female jack for my external mic, it works like a charm, but I wouldn't recommend anyone doing it unless they know what they're doing, because it requires a lot of patience and perseverance, it is very tedious job but the result was really satisfying. So, if anyone has the SX40 and wants to try and build a mic port it's doable. I sold my SX70 after 8 months for almost half price. I just wanted to get rid of it.
