    Thanks for confirming that this focal length reducer works fine! I ordered the R7 and I am interested in using a 16-35 mm lens on the R7 with that adapter or the f/2 100 mm. And a really funny solution with the red circular stickers on the adapter - I HATE the well hidden red/white marks and fiddling Canon has introduced with the R mount. Including the loss of the old three position-mounting of rear caps. Not everything is getting better but the DPAF and the in-camera-software behind is a revolution on its own. So I will do the sticker trick like you!

    Interesting video but the camera is showing correct exif data as this is a focal length reducer which is the opposite of a T.C (which is a focal length extender) so it really is f/2 and 49mm just as when you add a 1.4x T.C it would become f/4 and 99mm. Bokeh and depth of field will be the same as a 49mm f/2 lens. I'd love to try this out with my EF400mm f/2.8 which would make it a 283mm f/2 and my EF300mm f/2.8 for a 212mm f/2 It's a very expensive accessory though at (USD)$600 plus the $1500 for the R7 equals $2100 which isn't much less than an R6 so if you want full frame possibly better to spend a bit more for the R6 (plus you would want a normal adapter which is another $100 for a total of $2200) On the other hand with the R7 plus 071x reducer (and normal adapter) and EF lenses it's almost like having 2 cameras

    I’m wondering, why you said that with the speedbooster you don’t need to expect the bokeh difference… cause I definitely do have a better bokeh while using the speedbooster+full frame lens combo. Yes, it’s still not as good as the full frame body+lens combo, but it’s still much better than the one without speedbooster. Btw, lot of people don’t really realise that speedbooster is specific tool that must be used in certain situations while you really need this extra stop of light. Same thing like with the extenders. It’s really worth mentioning that it’s not the way to make crop sensor camera work like full frame. PS. Thanks for short review, it’s gives people basic information about the tool and it’s needed to be done. Lot of information that can be found about speedboosters in KZread today filled with misleading information and new hobbyists just can’t realise if they really need to buy one or not.

    I believe the correct explanation is: It will give you similar bokeh to the lens set at 2.8 when mounted on a full frame camera, and the extra stop of light, taking it to 2.0. But it won't give you the bokeh of a 2.0 lens.

    No it’s exactly like a f/2 49mm lens Just the opposite of a TC (focal length extender) this is a focal length reducer which shortens the focal length whilst the front entrance pupil is unchanged This alters the f/ stop F stop = focal length devided by the entrance pupil diameter

    As Ángel said here. If here were to match the framing (by moving the camera forward since he gained more FOV) you would gain more DOF (the one of a 2.0) So if you grab an R6 w/ RF 24-70 2.8 vs an R7 w/ EF 24-70 2.8 on a speed booster. The R7 would have more DOF

    Bokeh is the blurred-out background - If one were to frame the subject matter with the same proportions, with and without the adapter, then because of the wider field of view with and the adapter one would need to be closer to the subject for the same framing. Being closer to the subject would create more background blur - increasing the bokeh. There is no added bokeh when cropping in on the image, but there is when reflaming the image.

    So are there any benefits to buying an R7 + Canon speedbooster vs. just buying an R6 for a few hundred more dollars?

  • @juliankrakow

    @juliankrakow

    2 жыл бұрын

    I guess it comes down to what do you usually shoot and if you already have FF lenses. The r6 has better 60p and the r7 better AF. Personally I got the r7 as a second body and if I was keeping just one I would keep the r6. The Canon speed booster is quite expensive and unless you can use it together with C70 or other cinema camera I don't think it is worth just for the r7.

    No, the f number changes as well because the focal length changes. What doesn't change is the effective diameter of the lens. Smaller f-number doesn't necessarily mean that the effective diameter increases, that's not the definition of the f-number.
