You don't need to tell the R6 ii what to focus on as far as eye tracking etc, you can just leave it on auto.
The reason the R6 Mark II was slightly noisier at ISO 4000 was because it is designed to be cleanest at whole stops: 100,200,400,800,1600,3200,6400, 12800 , 25600. So ISO 6400 is actually cleaner than 4000 and would beat both the A1 and A7RV significantly.

As someone who owned the A1, and currently owns the a7R V and the R6ii. The Sony will definitely smoke the R6 at higher ISOs. The grain is much more noticeable on the canon than Sony. But they still are pretty close together.

I have the R6ii, along with R3s, and both are very espandable in configurations. Best AF is to back focus with the AF-ON button set to Metering - AF Start, then set AF Menu #1 Whole area tracking Servo AF to ON. Avoid using AF tracking to the nearest object as the target focus will ALWAYS get lost to another object. Be sure to set the shutter button to Metering Start without AF or AF will change on the button press.

As an owner of this camera, love the review! Love seeing Canon content on your channel, even though I mainly watch for the finished product and pov street, still great to see some variety. Been hearing lots of wonderful things about the R8, would love to see a video on that camera and maybe even some more 'L' series lenses!

Nice Job! Would love to see a more competitive lens used the next time. The kit lens is ok but there are way more better options available.
it would be interesting to see you try the R6 or the R8 with some RF lenses, like a mix of L series and less expensive ones. Also the location is crazy damn
Sony A7R5 owner, I also do the 1 finger test to hold the camera, but I use a wrist strap. I am a heavy EVF user instead of the screen, even though the EVF is a screen.

Hey Pierre, I do love your channel, thank you very much for all these free lessons! May I suggest something? What about Canon R10? 😊 It would be great to see you using cheaper cameras because that would inspire a lot of us! Thank you!
Your focus probs seem like "some" user error. You can set three buttons at the top top right where the af-on button is. Eye focus and small spot focus on two button then what ever you like on the third. That way when it hunts just use spot to require what you're focusing on. There are many how to videos on three button focus methods.
Everyone else is rounding the corners. This review was truthful and things that I have seen also using these camera. 2023, models, you cannot go wrong
Hi Pierre, It's nice to see how different camera brands work, some advantages and some disadvantages in all brands. I personally use the viewfinder, I feel more comfortable. I like the White Wall Fine Art Paper, it looks like great quality, and the Paper will last a long, long, time. The Stabilization in the Canon R6 II, worked real well. Especially hand holding, that waterfall picture was real nice with the ice, looked fluffy. Invest in your skills, well said Pierre, so true. Thanks for sharing this video..

4:40 I’ve been testing out the Sony A7IV for the past 7 months and 90% of the time I use the EVF. The fully articulating screen on Sony is not great vs my Canon R5. The ergonomics, ease of use, and menus is why I think I will not be switching to Sony. I’d love to see what you can do with the Canon EOS R3. Great review!

I switched from Canon to Sony when they came out with the A7, one of - if not the first - full frame mirrorless camera but the truth is the ergonomics are just not comfortable for me, I'd have pain when using it for extended period of time. The menus were also god awful. Color rendition was also not to my taste, so I'm back to Canon. The cameras and lenses are bigger than Sony's but at this point it doesn't make that much difference. If you want compact an interchangeable lens full frame system isn't what you want.
Just wish Canon improve their dynamic range. I'm not sure if it's the sensor, but wouldn't it be cool if Canon decide to put their DGO technology inside a mainstream mirrorless camera? But yeah that will definitely cannibilize their Cinema line sales, but I just want something decent that is full frame that is also afforable. Sth like the FX3 but Canon equivalent with DGO perhaps.

Totally agree. I actually get more Dynamic Range on my 5 yr old Fujifilm X-T3 in jpeg mode!!! Using DR200 and Highlights -2 or DRP mode set to weak (gives even greater range - for extreme situations). Canon gets around the DR issue, by metering to protect the highlights, making darker pictures - look dullish SOOC. I just edit lift the shadows with masks - but this adds lots more time in post edits. But the Canon AF and tracking and sharpness/clarity is amazing, this makes up for it.

Actually, the R6 II beats most of the Sonys when it comes to dynamic range. If you are talking about video, that's something different entirely and is due to the Clog3 profile. It's still more than good enough for almost anything. James Reader compared the S5II, A7IV and R6 II and did some video testing in their best log formats at sunrise with some high dynamic range going on and once graded, there was almost no real world difference.
I have R6, thinking about get R5 or R6ii (portraits, and motorcycles) I'm more oriented to R5, don't like the absence of low pass filter on R6ii
U can set focus point to make it smaller, if u dont want to use the face/tracking one cause it will track 100 % of the sensor

Right now I would like to just focus on getting good with a good camera so I can better story-tell and execute my ideas. A lot of what I do currently is creative and usually comedic, but I’d like to dip my toes into other genres as well. I have no set in stone plans for a short film, but with all this in mind, do you think this would cover my needs?
What memory card do you use with Canon R6mk2?
I'm thinking of getting this exact camera, is it a sensible decision given the R6 platform is at least 3 years old now? My main focus will be family photography whether outside or inside, AF for kids playing around, street photography, thanks.

I have the R6 MKII. You won’t be disappointed. It is an absolute beast. Totally smokes my 5DIV. That said, it does have an array of options and settings that take time to learn in order to maximize performance, just like any modern advanced mirrorless camera. This video needs to be taken with a healthy dose of salt. He is inexperienced with both Canon and the R62 in particular. If I picked up his Sony and ran out and started shooting with it, I’d probably have a similar complaints until I learned the system.

How can you compare this with the Sony A7IV? Still trying to decide what to buy
@77dris
Жыл бұрын
The R6 Mark II is better in most areas aside from resolution. Though the 24 MP sensor on the R6 II seems to be sharper than the one on the A7IV in my test. It also has less noise and better dynamic range than the Sony for photos and no 4k crop like the A7IV. Alex Barerra has a great comparison and you can download the raw files to see how much cleaner the R6 II is. Also the photo has 12/40 fps burst mode compared to about 6 fps on the A7IV (they advertise 10 but that's only with crippled raw files in ideal conditions. real world is much slower)
Why do Canon videos wobble, even though they already have the ibis feature?

If it’s anything like the R6 mk I, the tracking box (even at the smallest setting) will expand to fill subjects or hunt if an animal, eye, face, or vehicle is not detected. Infuriating, in my opinion, for snapshot situations where having to move the focus point manually may result in a missed photo.

@@truthseeker6804 Exactly. I got the R6 II over the A7IV because it's better in most areas. And I also got EF lenses for cheaper than the 3rd party Sony lenses and they work 110% adapted on RF. That's why Canon doesn't really need third party because unlike Sony and Nikon, their adapted glass don't lose quality or performance at all .

Жыл бұрын
@@77dris... yes, the adapter was made by Canon, for exactly this purpose, use the wide variety of EF lenses that are more affordable.
Went from Sony to Canon and didn't like the experience one bit. Three things made it a deal breaker. First Canon customization is dismal. I always have buttons on Sony to quickly switch the Subject Detection, Min SS for Auto ISO, and Electronic/Mechanical shutter. Those are such common functions, it's annoying Canon makes you to do menu diving. Second deal breaker was the articulating screen. Unless you shooting selfies or your camera on tripod, articulating screen is hugely annoying, especially when you shoot from a low position and the screen is on the way of your left hand holding the lens. I'm not buying any other camera with articulating screen, it's a faulty design from my perspective. And the third disappointment was the Canon raw files in Lightroom. Dynamic range was not good, Canon tends to crush shadows, despite its metering tendency to overexpose and wipe out the highlights, and it's difficult to recover. Worse I hated the colors. Camera tends to produce very warm pictures, with lots of magenta. Greens are all wrong. Blue sky is not a nice saturated blue, more often washed out blueish magenta. And perhaps due to the sensor technology and CFA, some intense blues show significant color shift that is impossible to fix. I was shooting violets and the flowers turned purple. Got rid of Canon, tried Nikon and love almost everything about Z series other than some AF quirks.
I'm happy like a clam in warm mud, with mine.
