This is an incredibly helpful and informative video. I’m taking my first steps into video production after 20 years in photography and the shutter angle tip is invaluable. Thanks!

"Slow" is almost the effect Ridley Scott used in Gladiator to get more out of the footage of the forest burning in the fight scene you see at the start.

Slow is basically to shoot in a slow shutter mode it allows you to go real low on the shutter to get crazy motion blur video for creative purposes ect

I think that Slow mode is intended for night photography to allow more light to hit the sensor. Great explanation of modes! 👍I was recently filming the car racing event and learned that 180 degree is really not best for all scenarios and came home with many beautiful blurred vintage spots instead of vintage cars... 🤣

Ah, interesting - thanks for clarifying on Slow Mode. Yeah, any fast action needs a reduced shutter angle - that must have been frustrating for you 😅

@@NaikMedia Yup, it was 😀 Fortunately I had few good shots as well, but all the ones which were at 90 degree angle to the moving cars were really bad... So at the end I was able to make a video from the footage, but will be more thoughtful next time. Interestingly, in the photography I knew that you should pan with the car to take a good shot, but completely forgot about it in the video :D

Thanks for the kind words, and the feedback - this keeps happening with my uploads (processing HD and 4K takes hours), so I have to do a trick to get the uploader to re-process them. I appreciate you notifying me though - I didn't think it would happen again! Ad

Thanks Christopher David - though I think KZread does take longer with my uploads recently, so I'm using a trick to get it to reprocess them. Next time I'll get it uploaded the night before so it has enough time to be 4K from the very start! I appreciate your comment though! Ad

My Panasonic GH5 adjusted shutter angle by degree. I'm a little sad that Cannon does not have an option modify the degree increases

They’ve introduced it to the R6 mark 2; I’d say that is more the equivalent of the GH5/GH6. Whereas the R5C is a cinema cam so having clear scan is more appropriate for that line of cameras. Not to defend them not including it though. For balance: canon sucks.

What does it do to the motion blur when you change it to clear scan

  • @NaikMedia

I think it’s the same as the equivalent shutter speed, so 120hz would have the same impact as 1/120s - they both are essentially the flicker rate if my understanding is correct. It just gives you the ability to fine tune to say 121.5hz or 1/121.5s so that it doesn’t create zero facts. So motion blur would have the same result as having the hz set at 1/2, 1/4, 1x, 2x the fps (eg ~50hz for 25fps for a 180° shutter angle). Sorry for the convoluted explanation. Hopefully someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

@@NaikMedia Yes I noticed when I switched it to this mode the hurts was whatever I had the system frequency on. So I wasn't sure if I could raise it higher. I guess we will have to do some testing. I'm getting some flickering in my lighting so I do need to adjust slightly. Just been having to troubleshoot so many other things.

I just bought the Portaapture X8 for sound and the Ninja V5 Plus that I was going to use for ProRes raw and audio. The Ninja and the Canon R5C is really only good for recording if I want to do HDMI raw in 8K. I can't even record in 60fps. I love ProRes raw but it is only useful in certain circumstances. I was testing all the different recording options on the Ninja. Trying to get Canon wide color gamut to pass through HDMI was not happening. Turns out it's a limit to HDMI.

@@NaikMedia I did speak to Canon on the phone and they told me I should set the hz to double my frame rate. It takes a long time to adjust in the Canon menu as well. I have started shooting at around 121.3 Hz for 60 FPS 4K video. Got rid of the flicker and I bought a few aperture lights for my practicals to change the color of my background. So now flickering isn't too much of an issue
