Good timing haha we’re getting ready to go through some renovations in our old sanctuary we took over from a previous church and our PTZ options are likely going to be CR-N700s for our down the line PTZ and a stage cam or two coupled with two C series stick cams. It’s been near impossible to find a good thorough review of the Canon PTZ system in a church context so given the N700 is just basically a 12g genlocked N500, this makes me very happy.

For the price you are paying for a PTZ you could get a very good camera body, lens, tripod and all the accessories. I understand that PTZ's are good for those who don't have volunteers, but if you're dropping $6k for a camera, I'm sure you're church is big enough to train a volunteer to run it. You also need to remember that PTZ can do only 1 job. A good DSLR can be used anywhere, is easily moveable and can take stills. A PTZ is stuck and cannot be used for other functions. What we really need to see is a church that isn't a mega church, or has mega church funding. A church like mine has $2-3k per year to spend on audio/visual equipment, not $200-300k

One thing I was able to figure out that I couldn’t ever seem to find an answer for was preventing a PTZ from jumping to a preset while live on program output of the ATEM. It involves a lot of apps talking together (TouchOSC, Bomes Pro, AtemOSC, OSCulator) but if anyone is interested, I can try to make a tutorial of our setup.

For the good folks at South Fellowship, I also use Canon PTZ cameras (2 CR-N300s over NDI into OBS and out to a BM Web Presenter 4K) and have for about the past 10 months. I notice that you are using a StreamDeck in your setup and mentioned that it is doing at least some camera control (notwithstanding the Canon IR controller). Are you using the Canon XC Control protocols for those controls or some other function such as hotkeys? I have access to a StreamDeck but would like to use a LoupeDeck Live to use the rotary dials for P, T, Z, and manual focus control. I could accomplish this in OBS via plugins and hotkeys, but that seems a bit ungainly. XC Control seems more robust, but there isn't a lot written about it's use.

My problem with PTZ’s have rarely been sensor/lens limitations. The problem is movement. A manned camera looks infinitely better for reactive movement than a PTZ and it’s not even close. It looks bad and robotic for movement, and even if you dial in a preset position/zoom settings - you’re stuck with static shots. Even if you’re a smaller church, I would still spend the same amount of money on a static angle of a DSLR/mirrorless and a good lens if you’re limited on space/people.

This is a mater of taste thing but if I have access to the DHCP-server I always prefer using IP reservations over static IPs. This makes it a lot easier to manage all addresses in one place and reduces the risk of IP conflicts in case of misconfiguration. It will also make it faster to set up the cameras in another network with a different subnet for ad-hock setups as you will not have to do any changes to the camera's IP configuration. The downside to this approach is that without the DHCP-server none of the devices get any addresses. As most DHCP-servers run on a router that is the primary network gateway anyway without it you will not have a network to stream over so it's a single point of failure regardless of your IP configuration... unless you run redundant bla bla bla...

@@MrHeuvaladao if you want the equiv sensor to the camera he recommended it would be a BirdDog P4K (but it’s real expensive), if you don’t need 4K (and for live-streaming I don’t think you do) the P200 is also great. If you’re using Blackmagic cameras already pick something with a Sony sensor (like BirdDog for best results. Panasonic has a great lineup of PTZ AWUE-150K is one of them.
