    Thank you for producing this series Sam. I'm currently waiting for Black Friday to make my Pro-300 printer! I'm super excited, especially after watching this third video, as I'm planning on producing a collection of limited B&W prints to help fund an exhibition... Seeing your results, I can't wait to get started! :)

    Thank you Sam - Your efforts on my behalf ^_* are much appreciated. I have only recently returned to photography after giving up due to never being able to have my slides & images reproduced to any satisfactory degree & am so pleased with the videos you have produced. Please continue with the more advanced videos & with the Matt & Fine Art Papers / Custom ICC profiles - I think the course of videos is what will enable me to part with the best part of £650 & 'finally' buy my first ever printer. Much appreciated

    Hi Sam. I have just bought the PRO-300. After decades of traditional b/w printing, this is my first foray into digital photo printing and I have to say, your instruction videos are the clearest and most concise ones I have seen. Watching them has been like having an instructor by my side as I delve into this new area of photography. One question. Using the two colour and black and white prints in your examples, how many A4 prints would you expect to get from those tiny ink cartridges in the PRO-300?

  • @SamGregoryPhotography

    Hi - The honest answer is I'm not sure. It can of course depend on the types of prints and perhaps paper, but at the next change of inks I'm going to then keep a register of what I've used and what I've printed to help have an answer for this question in the future as it has come up a few times. Thanks for checking the video out and I'm glad you found it useful. Sam

    Really excellent videos. Looking at your black and white results, I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and get one of these. My Pixma ip8750 just does not reliably do black and white without a colour cast. Thanks for sharing your expertise so clearly.

    Thanks for a very good b&w concentration on the Pro 300. My Epson R1900 is inoperable at the moment due to clogged printheads and I'm looking hard at this printer. If my future efforts fail at unclogging the Epson I'll most likely get this printer.

    Thanks Richard - I suppose it comes down to (1) Do you regularly want/need A2? (2) Have you got space for the Pro1000? (3) Cost. Personally I don't regularly need A2 prints, if they're for sales I have them printed by a studio, but most sales are A4/A3 and most printing I do for myself is A4/A3 for proofing, documenting, enjoyment etc. The Pro300 also sits perfectly on my desk so no need for major moving around of 'stuff'. Either do a cracking job on the prints :)

    Hi Sam, you explain b&w printing very well! One question about image resizing. If you do so, it depends also on image resolution! For example, if you dont want to go below 300dpi printing the resolution of the source image has to be taken into account in order to keep the quality. In your video I have not noticed any option to check it in the Canon print software?

  • @FotospeedUK

    @FotospeedUK

    The Canon software will hold the imported resolution and resize the image in the background. I'd always try to size the image before going into the Canon software as Photoshop and Lightroom seem to do a better job at resizing. Tim

    Hello, first of all thank you for your great videos...they always help me a lot. I'm just about to decide between Pro-300 and Pro-1000. I currently have the Pro-200 but would like to switch to pigment based ink. What's holding me back from the Pro-1000 is that I probably don't use it enough. I print 4 pictures for 2 days and then nothing for 1-2 weeks. Of course, the option to print on A2 is great, but so far everything has been designed for A3 and if I do need an A2 print, I can have it done by a studio. Do you also think that the Pro-300 would be the better choice for me? And one more question...if you start the PPL plugin from Lightroom, the image is always imported with 240dpi. Can you set it to be imported at 300dpi? Greetings Udo

    Hi, Great Videos... Can I ask why your connection is USB as opposed to WIFI? In your original setup video, you opted for WIFI, but I notice you are on a USB connection. Are there any issues with the WIFI on the printer? I'm thinking of buying one. Thanks

    Hi Sam, Have been enjoying your tutorial videos especially regarding the Canon Pro 300 Printer.However I do have a problem that hopefully you might be able to help. I have my printer connected wirelessly and I also have Canon's professional print and layout software downloaded. The problem is all seems to work fine until I press Print , the drop down shows the image is trying to send the data to the printer but is seems there is no communication as nothing happens. DO you have any ideas ? Thanks

    Hi Sam I have very recently purchased the Canon Pro 300 and with the help of your videos have set it up. Unfortunately I seem to be having difficulty loading the PPL app for which I cannot find a video to cover. I have managed to download it and it has gone into programme files/Canon/PPL but has not loaded into PS File-Automate. Have you a video to cover this or can you explain to me how to transfer it over.

    What about banding? I've done a few prints and noticed banding which is most notable in the black areas of the print. I find this quite disturbing after shelling out a $1000 for the Canon Pro300.

    So would you recommend using the Black and White mode even if you have had a Custom ICC profile made for the paper and printer?

  • @SamGregoryPhotography

    @SamGregoryPhotography

    3 жыл бұрын

    David - It's a good question and the answer is...it depends, from my point of view anyway. I would normally have said no, always stick to your custom ICC profile, BUT in a fair few tests with this Pro 300 set-up I found the B&W mode actually delivered just as well, and sometimes even better results. Difficult to quantify and it did depend on the paper and the image, for example NST Bright White and the Platinum Baryta tend to be able to cope easily with most things, whereas some papers are more particular about the black/dark tone delivery. That's just my thoughts from using this for a few months, would be interesting to see what the tech experts from Canon would say.

  • @davidqueenan

    @davidqueenan

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@SamGregoryPhotography Thanks Sam - I was just wondering if the custom ICC was more targeted at colour images and maybe the B&W mode is better suited to mono images as you don't need as much colour info or want any colour casts?

  • @SamGregoryPhotography

    @SamGregoryPhotography

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@davidqueenan in theory the Custom ICC should be beneficial for both colour and B&W as it also affects the blacks and also the density of ink supply generally. I'll seek to clarify from Canon about just how that B&W mode works specifically with all of this in mind vs custom ICC profiles. Thanks for checking out the video :)
