    I really don't why Canon didn't realize yet their potential for the webcam market. As someone who LOVED the Blogging Cameras of the mid-late 2000s (when my phone could just shoot thumbnailsized micro-videos at abysmal quality) i am HAPPY to see the return of these dedicated little pocket cameras. Smartphones might be nice to shoot videos with but most of them simply don't keep standards when it comes to framerates. Yes, holding it vertical but shooting horizontal is exactly what you DON'T get from Phones... This is why we got this insane epidemic of Vertical Video Syndrome. That was something blogger cameras, like the Flip Mino or the Sony Bloggie cameras, always did right. But my god... over 500 bucks for this thing? Are they serious?????

  • @amermeleitor
    @amermeleitor Жыл бұрын

    I don't know, but in an era when action cameras have perfect stabilization and shoot video in 10bit it have no sense. And smartphones have great video, wide angle and macro lenses, even apps that allow you to record RAW DNG video. I think the vlogging sector is full of better alternatives, more rugged (action cameras), with more possibilities (smartphones), and better video quality.

    The image quality seems pretty lacking imo. At times looks decent and others it's quite poor. Not just talking about this review but looking at other channels who reviewed it. I think the idea behind the camera is extremely smart but it's lacking overall. 1" sensor is not the issue as high end video cameras with 1" sensor shoot 10 bit 4k 60FPS at 410 Mb/s and the quality is great. They gotta figure out how to get the image quality up on these things. Lets be serious.....a Gopro from last year that is cheaper does 10bit 5.3k 60fps

    3 votes against it: Slow and unstabilized lens, no aperture and shutter priority mode for Video and built-in battery. The 19 mm (Video) lens is only a plus in case of stationery use. In enhanced digital image stabilization mode, the resulting viewing angle of approx. 28 mm is underwhelming. I'm using the EOS-R, but Sony's ZV-1 with bluetooth grip are my first choice in the arena. Of course I was prepared to pay a higher price.

    I think as a former ZV-1 owner this makes sense actually. The ZV1 was really only usable in my opinion for video, stills provided no advantage over a smartphone. This form factor from Canon is a better design for video-centric use and it’s features and price match a lot of what is in the ZV-1F. As an R6 II owner I could definitely see adding this to my kit in certain situations.

    Yeah, even my seven year-old GoPro Hero 5 has interchangeable batteries. Initially the V10 seemed interesting to me because its larger 1" sensor would do a better job of working in low light conditions over the GoPro. But now that I know batteries can't be swapped and the battery life is short to boot, plus the reports of flaky autofocus I've been coming across, I'm hesitant to buy one. Maybe the next iteration will fix these issues.

    Odd comparison, the G7X III is not a dedicated vlogging camera, it's an all-around point-and-shoot camera, which is also very good for still photography, a task for which the V10 is utterly unsuitable. Interesting artifacts around the edges of focus areas in the stabilized footage. Specifically around the edges of your body, where it transitions to a background farther away. I wonder if it’s a product of KZread’s compression, the compression from editing, or something else? Either way, it’s quite distracting, even on a small phone screen, and I wonder if that will be a permanent shortcoming?

    Just looking into this camera as I was intrigued by the size and form factor. But on the canon website it says that the effective photo resolution was 15.2MP, and back calculating the crop factor from the 19mm equiv and 6.6mm actual focal length makes the crop 2.88, vs the normal 2.7 for a 1 inch…so it looks like it’s not using the whole sensor like the Sony rx0 I and II. A bit disingenuous for canon to keep claiming it’s large 1 inch sensor when it’s not using it all.

  • @cameralabs

    @cameralabs

    I'm sure there are certainly some things going on that we need to find out! BUT when calculating, bear in mind 18mm is the equivalent focal length for the full 3:2 shaped diagonal. The quoted 19mm is when cropped to 16:9 for video. It's confusing!

    Thank you for such a nice review. The camera seems to be perfect for vlogging with such a small design and such a big sensor. But as I could see in other video samples, the stabilization is not that great while walking. And digital IS makes walking in the evening looks like glitches all the time. Why no optical IS? Sony X3000 was killing it with it. This v10 camera doesn't have HDR mode and has a small unreplaceable battery... How can it beat mobile phones like iphone 14 or Samsung 23 Ultra? I think good points to this camera are a form factor, mic input, cool streaming options, wide angle lens and price. The big sensor without proper software don't do much in low-light conditions. Unfortunately! Maybe some issues will be fixed with a new firmware update. But I guess I'll wait for V20.

    Shooting without a tripod is ok in a studio. There are many places you don't have a table handy so a tripod would be needed. Having a still lens makes the camera lighter but in some situations being able to zoom in would be niece. Interesting device.

If your just dipping your toes in to the world of action cameras, then go with these, xtu-s3 pro ($119), Akaso Brave 7 ($169) or SJcam sj10 ($200) dual screen all are great for their price, so much so, I have all three myself. Then if you want to step up the DJI Action 3 ($329) or the Go Pro 9 ($249). all the prices I showed, are the brand new prices, you can find them used. All these choices are far better then the Cannon and can do much more, you wont be limited to weather, place or anything.

It's Ok (although it doesn't look to me) if the lens contains fingerprint when not in use, but based on the sudden loss of contrast in the scene against the sun, I can tell that either the fingerprint was still there or the lens was not properly cleaned. Other than that, very good.

I know that the orientation of the camera determines the orientation of the video (vertical records a landscape video and horizontal records a vertical video). my question is if you rotate the camera while recording. does it keep the initial orientation? that would be nice as you could record a landscape-oriented video and do some nifty motions of the camera while not changing the video perspective.

    Great review, Gordon. This seems an odd design choice for canon. I’m not impressed by the image quality, stabilization, or mic. The microphones produce a sound reminiscent of nails on a chalkboard. Rolling shutter seems quite prevalent, but I suppose at this price, whaddya gonna do? Except, at this price, it directly competes with action cameras which have far superior image quality (from the early reviews at least) and stabilization. The body build looks archaic in contrast with action cameras. That stand is atrocious. I don’t know about this one. I thought Sony’s wildly overpriced ZV-E1 was a bad move, but this one is right up there. This, of course, is just my humble opinion.

    This is a very smart camera that is a direct response to the current market. It seems like the majority of vloggers that I watch on KZread are using the G7XII and not the Mark III…I think the early AF problems with that camera have made many users prefer the older model - which is strangely still on sale here in the US and at a lower price so I can’t blame them. I would have like to see how the digital zoom works because I recently discovered how well it worked in the Canon R7 if you use that camera to vlog with the RF 16mm f/2.8 Pancake. You’re forced to shoot in 1080…but in all honesty, vlogging in 4K isn’t entirely necessary. The built-in stand a support for external mics are going to set this camera apart. I think there will be a very specific group of users who will look at this and it will honestly be perfect for them. I must say that I’m considering it just as a webcam for zoom meetings! Holy SMOKES did this look great when you used it indoors in your office.
