Can you use a circular filter on this camera?

Thanks for your review. I bought this camera over the Lumix fz 80 because of the excellent evf and the articulating screen which allows you to vlog coupled with the external mic input. It is a little pricey as you mentioned. We'll see if I get the value out of it.

I have tried and failed to set my ISO to 800. I hit 800 and click save and every time, it resets itself to 200. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

So they put a mic input on it but no hot shoe to mount a shotgun mic on??? Interesting choice, Canon. And I agree it needs a touchscreen. Great video. What mic were you using? Audio sounded super clear.

There is a hack for this. Just purchase an adhesive cold shoe and mount it just behind the pop up flash. I agree you shouldn't have to do this but at least there is a workaround.

Hi: I want to buy this camera next week, but don't want to rely on the auto focus for wildlife because a one in a million shot can be lost with auto focus not working 100% of the time. I have 2 previous head injuries and want to change the settings to Manual focus and use the rotating dial on top of the camera to manually focus. Can I do that? Thank you for answering my question when you can. Anyone else is welcome to offer me advice too.

just wanted to mention that the Canon would be easier to use than FZ70, which I own. The FZ70 interactive software is counter intuitive and will give headaches before you would be able to use it efficiently!

I can’t afford the new Galaxy S10+ unfortunately. But I would almost guarantee that it would take better video and photos than the SX70 HS. Granted you only get 2x optical zoom, but still better quality.

First off, thank you so much for your wishes of health. It's a level of kindness that can be pretty rare sometimes online. As for your camera question, I think you can probably get a better camera for the money. B&H currently has the Panasonic DMC-GX85 mirrorless cam onsale for $500 until tomorrow (bhpho.to/2FCiwcy), but if you miss that there are a couple other possible options I'd look at. The Panasonic DMC-GX850 (bhpho.to/2FALWrJ) is another mirrorless camera which features 4K, a touchscreen, and most importantly has a larger sensor than the SX70HS. If you're only interested in taking video, then maybe look at a camcorder as they tend to have better autofocus while recording and better audio. Something like the Panasonic HC-VX981K (bhpho.to/2Fzsiw6) or the Sony FDR-AX33 (bhpho.to/2FCDTKZ) might be perfect as they also have decent zoom. Hope this helps point you somewhat in the right direction. Don't hesitate to ask me any other questions you might have.

I recently sold my Sony A7III full frame and it was able to be used and charged via USB power bank while in use .

No, actually one of the big let downs for me with this cam was the fact that you can't charge it at all via USB. Also, I'm a bit curious as to why you're downgrading from the A7III to this in the first place?

@@DigitalTechReviewsTips Well in my journeys of Filming and Exploring abandoned locations i was accused of something that i have never done! Needless to say in an effort to afford defending myself i was forced to sell "MY BABY" the A7III to obtain an Attorney ! So now rather then drop several more grand on the same A7III i have decided to try some other cameras. I appreciate your reply it helped out alot. Would you recommend this camera for good 4k recording ? Thanks again sir. :)

That sucks. I'd maybe look at a ASP-C sensor mirrorless camera from Panasonic or Sony. Maybe the GX9 or a6500. Canon also has the new T8i if you'd rather a DSLR. Either way, definitely stay away from the SX70HS.

Can I catch focus manually with this camera?

You can but because it lacks a focus ring, manual focusing involves using the up/down buttons which is less than ideal.

How about AF? Is it any good?

In bright sunlight it’s ok at best. Low light it’s awful. If you really want good AF a DSLR is the way to go.

How do you compare it to the Sony hx400v ? Specially the image quality ?

In night stars can be seen brighter on hx400v better censor then sx70. Long exposure

It’s an alright camera, but if you’re just looking for something to record yourself taking for KZread I’d look elsewhere. Maybe check out a DSLR like the Canon M50 MK2 or Sony ZV-E10 which are only slightly more expensive but much more capable.

so.., we get the sx80 in 2025.....lol

Stabilization is alright though getting steady footage or sharp pictures with the full 65x zoom definitely requires a steady hand or tripod.

@@melankolskk Your buying a budget camera bro thats not advance camera, its not dslr. Your get same picture quality as a cheap camera canon SX series.

I was just casually watching this video cz i love watching gear videos. Disliked for asking for USB charging option. A direct socket is much more convenient.

Can’t remember exactly what I said in the video, but I usually prefer both. A direct socket is awesome but having the ability to also plug the camera into a USB external battery while out shooting is extremely helpful.

Lumix fz80 has hot shoe but dosn't have mic input , and sx70 has mic input but doesn't have hot shoe🤦‍♂️

Had hoped that the SX70 would be better than the FZ80.

Same here, quite a let down. I'm getting the P950 next week to test out compare. Pretty sure that for $800 (vs. $300 for the FZ80) it should come out on top.

Nope. Closer to a point and shoot on sensor size and features. Only difference is it has really long optical zoom.

Your mic quality is too high

No hotshot and no touchscreen = no sale. That and and the fact that it's TOO EXPENSIVE.

Totally agree. Both Nikon’s (the P950) and Canon’s (SX70HS) superzoom bridge cameras have gotten way more expensive in the past year despite only adding 4K video. I’m waiting for Panasonic to update there FZ80 as that’s currently the one to beat - especially for just $300.

I usually do try and answer most questions. Haven’t been able to much recently as I badly injured my ankle playing basketball two weeks ago and have been in and out of the hospital since.
