    About a year ago I was looking for a good, affordable camera, especially a simple one to use for I was (and still am) an amateur. I bought this camera because of this video. I don't regret it at all. Thanks a lot for the all the effort and attention to detail you put on your reviews. I'm sure they help a lot of people like me. :)

    Gordon, Thanks so much for this review and all the work and time you put into it. After looking over and reading upwards of ten different reviews on the SX20, I found CameraLabs and your review. It was lightyears ahead of any other review I found and your knowledge and attention to detail made this review a homerun and this camera an easy buy for me. Keep up the great work and thanks again!

    I just bought this camera a couple of months ago and i LOVE it. its Easy to use, picture quality and video quality are great...This is a great camera for beginners...its something between a fully compact and SLR...you will love it and four batteries will last you about 300 pics with flash and close to 450 to 500 with no flash...

    Sure thing, use video editing software on your computer to compress the file down to the required level. This video was actually edited in Premiere and compressed into a smaller Windows Media WMV file (still at 720p though) for easier uploading to YT and Vimeo. Thanks for supporting me!

    @TheAirplaneMaster The sound recorder only recorded audio, not video - so you could use it for notes, interviews etc. You could of course just record video as well now, but the files are obviously much bigger.

    Excellent review Gordon! I compared the verdicts of both the SX10 and SX20 and saw that they're both the same. I personally am glad I chose the SX10 over the SX20 because ultimately I need sound recording over video. Nice to see that the SX20 doesn't have as bad Image Quality as I previously thought!

    Hi Gordan, firstly thankyou very much for all the reviews that you have made. I have read many reviews on your website also but i was wondering if you could tell me basically, in regards to image quality, which camera is better, the Powershot Sx20is or Panasonic FZ35. Thankyou in advance!

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs14 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! The fact is there's few poor cameras being released by the majors right now, and most have something to recommend them. Indeed there's rarely a definite leader, with the choice boiling down to deciding which features are more important to you. For example, here I can't say whether RAW, better IS and longer movies are preferrable to a flip-out screen and flash hotshoe. I can point out the differences, but it's up to the reader to then work out which will be best for them.

  • @cameralabs
    @cameralabs14 жыл бұрын

    I recommend you check out the results and gallery pages of both reviews at cameralabs . com - you can compare the image quality there. And sadly no, there's no way to exceed the 4GB size here, but if you need longer recording times, consider the Panasonic FZ35 / FZ38 which can keep creating new files as the 4Gb limit is reached.

    I think the problem is you don't have enough light, so the camera has to select a slower shutter speed to compensate. If you choose faster shutter speed, you'll either need more brighter light or a higher ISO, which in turn will reduce the quality. Getting closer to the subject will make it brighter though, so that always helps...

    I use this camera and its very good but with one exception. There is about a half second delay built in delay between pressing the button and it taking the picture. This makes it next to useless for action photography. My much older Olympus OM10 has no delay which makes it streets ahead for this purpose. However for everything else the canon is brilliant.

    Hi Gordon. I cannot tell you how many time Ive compared this review to the other megazooms out there, and I keep coming back to the 6:15 mark of the video with the example of the HD video shooting. What keeps standing out to me here (and other sample videos on the web) is the superior quality of the sound from the stereo microphones. In your experience, is there any other camera that has had standout sound recording as this SX20 has?

    Hi Gordan, I got this camera as an intermidiate step between the 'usual' pocket size point and shoot and a 550D, which i am dying to get. So far, i absolutely love this camera. HD video, however, is choppy when played back on my PC. I have both a Class 2 and Class 4 SDHC; regardless of which one i use, 720p video does no play smoothly on my PC. Do i need a higher class SD card or am i missing something? Thanks for your great work!!!

Button on the back bottom right of your camera and click it twice. the first time you click it will make the lines appear in the screen the brackets that help you center your picture and the 2nd time you press the (disp.) button it should set you back to you're LED screen. try it again and the 2nd time will take you back to the Viewfinder at mark 5:05 Gordon explains how you did that.

    @scom86 It really depends on your preference. For me, the panasonic dmc fz35 has a huge advantage over this one in that it has lithium batteries instead of the AA's. Although AA's can be found almost anywhere, they are rather unwieldy (especially when dealing with four) as well as heavier. However, the argument about AA's being more readily available than the lithium batteries is negotiable, because you can charge a lithium battery anywhere that has electricity anyway so you don't need more!
