    I bought this printer two years ago. Never set it up...left it in my detached garage...120 degrees in the summer, low teens during the winter. I opened the box yesterday...cleaned out several nests built by mice. Set it up in my office, installed all the necessary software....I am amazed..it works perfectly.

    Nice review. I purchased this printer new awhile back, but have yet to set it up and use it. I had heard if it wasn't used too often, it would go into a cleaning mode and waste a lot of ink. Good to hear this may not be such a big problem. I want to start printing some of my favorite FujiFilm and Pentax digital photos and I am just getting back into film photography, so hopefully a lot more to come.

    That's awesome! I hope the printer works out great for you. I should have mentioned in my video that I do keep mine plugged in and powered on almost 100% of the time. This might help avoid cleaning cycles when I do take long breaks in between prints. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it but I figured it was worth mentioning here. I'm excited for you to begin printing your photos. I have a Fujifilm camera and love it. Which model do you have? And that's fantastic that you're getting back into film photography. Just ordered this printer after watching your reviews. Stunning quality prints, images and thank you for going in depth. I am currently using the Pixma TS5070 to print my images but the ink set cost about $100usd for 5 inks. So it makes more sense to upgrade and spend about $30 more for better quality prints and inks.

    I’ve had my PIXMA Pro 100 for five years now. I use my printer to print astrophotographs. Regardless of the image or size of print, the consistency of the colours is the most important factor. I print mostly using the borderless A3+ format and other than the prodigious use of ink the printer has been stable and consistent. Eventually I’ll need to replace this printer and I’ll pretty much be looking at a similar device.

    Hey, I loved your passion for this printer. I'm an artist trying to get into the sticker printing business. I see a lot of kind words for this printer. However, I use a LOT of color. Most of my art is entirely psychedelic and I try to add in as many colors as I can. Would the ink of this printer last me a while if I did a lot of prints that are 9x12"? Also, this printer is super pricey but I hear the head can be hard to fix if damaged. Do you have any tips on how to make it last as long as you did without the hiccups of the ink possibly getting clogged?

  • @CraigBergonzoni

    @CraigBergonzoni

    4 жыл бұрын

    The printer itself should last a while and get the job done. It's difficult to completely avoid clogs, especially if you have it a long time. But there are a few things you can do to give yourself the best chance at having a good experience with it. One is to print often, it sounds like this won't be a problem for you. The other thing I would say is to stick with the Canon OEM inks. I feel like a lot of problems people have are introduced with they start using cheap 3rd party inks. Also, check out a printing cost estimate page that Red River put together for this printer - www.redrivercatalog.com/rr/cost-of-inkjet-printing-canon-pro-100.html This will give you some more info on operational costs. If you haven't already, check out Jose Rodriguez's KZread channel. He's done a ton of printing videos and a lot on this printer. Also, Canon is releasing a new printer in September. It's not a replacement for this specific model but it looks like it falls in line with like a Pixma Pro-10. It's more expensive than this but check it out, it may be a better investment and better fit. I'm not sure but it's something to consider. Thank you for watching and commenting! Best of luck with your sticker printing business! That sounds awesome.

  • @CraigBergonzoni

    @CraigBergonzoni

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Thomas, I don’t own the Pro-100 anymore but I’ll give you my best tips for B&Ws from memory. The bottom line is that sometimes I used the “B&W Photo Mode” with some papers. Other papers I needed to still use the ICC profile for the paper. As a rule of thumb, with Canon papers I was able to use the B&W mode all the time. And sometimes I was able to use it as well with other brand but sometimes the ICC profile was better. Even with Canon papers I would get a color cast on occasion. In order to counter act this I would print a Pattern Print, in B&W mode. On that Pattern Print pick the sample image that looks most “neutral” and copy those X: & Y: settings into Print Studio Pro. I would need to do a Pattern print every 6 months or so to double check that my adjustments are still the same. So experiment a little, try the Pattern print. Try the ICC profiles if you’re using a third party paper and compare it to the B&W mode. It takes some trouble shooting but its worth it. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    My Pro 100 prints up to 13x19" because that's as wide a paper that it can handle. Red River makes 13" wide paper that's longer. I'm wondering if I can get the Pro 100 to print 13"x 24" prints so I can print my own panos; The pro 100 will render extremely fine gradations of black and grey. Canson Photgraphique paper works very well with it for B/W. But, you need a high-quality tif. file from a full frame camera with a good lens to get the best print.

  • @CraigBergonzoni

    You might be able to get a 24" print from the Pixma Pro 100. You might need QImage or another piece of software like that, I'm not sure. Check out Jose Rodriguez's channel. I think he covers that specific thing. I agree about the B&Ws on this printer btw! And ironically I'm printing will all crop-sensor cameras right now, the Fujifilm X-Series cameras. I’ve bounced around to a lot of papers. I keep coming back to Canon’s own Luster paper, which is a really nice well rounded paper, as well as Arctic Polar Luster from Red River. Then I like to use Baryta papers from Canson or Hahnemuhle for special prints. thank you for watching and commenting by the way!! I greatly appreciate it. 🙏🏼

The images I've printed on this look awesome. Both of these matte papers have smooth surfaces. I haven't tried a more textured matte paper. I assume those would do well also. The printers above this one in the Canon product line have a specific matte black ink cartridge as a part of their ink sets. This one doesn't but I've been impressed so for with what it's able to achieve. I hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it.

    My workflow has changed over the years. Lately, in order to combat having tints on my B&Ws, i utilize the Pattern Print function in Canon's Print Studio Pro printer app. You can print a test pattern for Tone and one for Brightness/Contrast. I print the one for Tone and find the sample image that looks best (most neutral) on that test pattern. Under each sample there is numbers for Tone adjustments that are being used for that sample. For me X -15 & Y 15 are the numbers that work. So I input those numbers back into the Tone adjustment in the Color settings tab in Print Studio Pro. (this is done while in "Black and White Photo" mode on the Color Management section of Print Studio Pro) You can print B&Ws in standard Pro mode or with ICC profiles but I find using the BW Photo mode, making Print Patterns to find out what i need to adjust for, then making those adjustments in the Tone setting help give me consistent neutral prints. I don't know if that makes sense. lol Let me know if you have more questions. You can always email me if you need more help. I might make a video on this one day too. Thanks for watching and commenting, btw!

    @@CraigBergonzoni I guess what's thrown me about getting neutral prints is that I'm coming from a black and white image, no color. So even though I am using color mode for printing via ICC paper profiles and a calibrated monitor, my gut was telling me the image has no color, so why would the printer be using anything but the grey/black cartridges, but maybe that's exactly my issue, I'm using color mode for printing, and it's somehow trying to translate my black and white image into color. Maybe using the black and white mode is the key, as well as the pattern prints like you say. I guess I'm just surprised that an image with 0 color can be printed with color.
