    This is the best video about the Canon 850D from everything that I managed to watch on KZread! Thank you so much for the work done! Great comparisons! I think I need to buy a Canon 77D, because 4K in 850D is practically without autofocus. Once again, - my thanks to you!

    I've chosen the M6 mk II thanks to your reviews Gordon. Still think is the best camera of the bunch since it has a small size being easy to carry and to fit on a gimbal, it has 4K clean output with 10bit 4:2:2 for an Atomos V, 120fps slow motion albeit in 1080p with no Phase Detect or sound, 4K uncropped but still with 1.6x crop that Canon APSC has but with the speed booster for M mount will approach a full frame sensor and ver. 2 Phase Detect auto-focus, making it a baby EOS R. I love the 120 MB/s video bitrate on regular SD cards, so easy to edit. The RAW photos are a breeze to edit as well and the battery life is excellent. The bad? The new 32mpx sensor out resolves EF-S lenses such as 10-18mm and 18-135mm. With quality lenses the M6 mk II is a very capable camera for photo or quality video. I'd wish it had C-Log. Also the viewfinder is very hard to source, even from Canon. But as Cannon learned us over the years, you can't have everything. You do a great job with your reviews and I thank you for your work.

    When people ask me about the camera they should buy, I'm fond of saying it's difficult to go terribly wrong. I'm a Canon Boy since film, so have adapted to the move into digital, APS-C, then mirrorless full-frame with an R last year. Fortunately, the EF to RF adaptor made that possible, but I would find it confusing to enter the Canon Realm at this point in time with a goal of growing into the hobby given the four different lens lines. The RF mount now presents a challenge as one cannot begin to collect those lenses in preparation for moving to the R-line as many of us did with our APS-C cameras, getting ready to go full-frame.

    Great information packed vid. if anyone is getting the M50 i highly recommend getting the deal with the 55-200mm kit lens as well as the 15-45mm , the 55-200mm is a very good lens for a kit lens. Having the benefits of the evf won me over for this model (M50) you can keep it small with kit lenses and go big with ef adapted 400mm+ the M50 handles it very well, also highly recommended for the m mount are the Dorr extension tubes.

    I currently have a 6D, M50 and RP. Canon does a really nice job on its true budget cameras. I also have a 300D from 2004 that I haven't used in nearly a decade... But that little M50 is a surprisingly good camera. I've got the tiny 22mm pancake. But it's easy to vlog with the small 17-40 L lens with speed booster.

    I bought the 850D ... it came with the 18-55mm lense . It was a spur of the moment decision . I did see online that it also came with the 135mm lense that kit package wasn't in the Shop as like the 90D sadly that was out of my reach .. I use for Moon , Sunsets , Aviation , Shipping , Scenery and Wildlife ..tho i'd like to try some Astro captures .. It works well with the Sigma 150-600 . And recently bought the 10-18mm Wide angle lense ..though my definetion of wide angle greatly differs to what Canon defines as Wide Angle . Apart from that overall ... Am more than happy with what i bought .

    The 90D is a rugged workhorse for me. What surprises me is how fairly similar the 850D and 250D/SL3 are. I figure if somebody wants to stick with a Canon DSLR in particular, doesn’t mind the 4K’s crop & AF, shoots/films casually, and wants to save a few hundred $£, the 250D could be a good fit. And BTW your reaction to the 4K vlog test was hilarious :)

    I have been waiting for this review! I have owned a Rebel T6 (1300D) as my one and only DSLR camera for almost 3 yrs now. And I have a quite a few EF-S lens I have bought over the years. So when I read Canon was releasing a new Rebel camera, I was thinking this (T8i/850D) would be a perfect step up from my T6. I like the smaller, lighter body because I take it with me on my hikes. Until Canon can confirm the rumored Canon M50 Mk II - this looks like the camera might be my choice.

  • @johnhaynes9910
    @johnhaynes99103 жыл бұрын

    As ever a good review but of course the 850 is a bit of an odd camera which as you say was announced in February but is only now turning up and given what has happened in camera "announcements" if not yet actual delivered products from the industry, it now seems well out of date, in fact picking up a second hand 7D MkII if video isn't key to you, is probably a better bet financially. When it comes to Canon with the R5, R6 and now the RF mount C70 they have clearly set out their main road map for the future and yet, neglected though the line has been, the rumour mill suggests that there are two new M series bodies in the offing, a M50 MkII and a higher specified M5 replacement. Apparently the M50 is still Canon's biggest selling mirrorless model so it would make sense to upgrade it but also Canon has always maintained a range of "entry level" cameras that consumers can step up from so if their evolution of DSLRs is over with the last one being the 1DX MkIII, it might be that the M series now replaces lower end DSLRs in that role, the M10, M100 and M200 being obvious price point/tech spec examples, it will be interesting to see :)

    Nice review Gordon. I like this newest of Canon's cameras. It reminds me of what an SL-3 is like with a wider waistline. I think for a person with bigger hands and not necessarily with a bigger budget. I would rather get a lesser body and pay more for prime glass for instance say like a 28mm or 50mm and a flexible 50-200mm for a nice kit. 90D would be my first choice if the budget would support it, but I am not one anymore to spend so much on the body but the lenses instead. Since both most likely use the same digic processor and noise reduction schemes. The Dual Pixel focus is Excellent. I think Sony beats the Canon in AF. I want a used a7III or a6400 as I shoot Sony mostly. But I have a Canon 7D I got for a song. Saved enough to get the original battery grip brand new for cheap. I run around airplane hunting with it and the 70-300mm on my crop sensor 7D. All my gear mentioned is used except my 50mm STM f1.8 I got new. I never buy new bodies and save tons. My a7ii and RX10 and 7D are all used. All function beautifully. I am happy the 850D being here but it is made at a price. If you need IBIS and better focus and more video ability looks like Sony is it for me. For what I do the 850D doesn't work for me, but for my Buddies looking for basics and the 850D is cool but yeah the 90D is it if once and for all get the 90D.

    I kind of wish Canon made another camera just like the 90D, but with perhaps a 24mp sensor or lower. I've had my 250D for a while, and thought there wasn't much point in buying a third APS-C DSLR, so bought a 6D Mk II which is only a little bit more than 90D.

    Thanks for making such a great video! Wanted to ask for your opinion, I've filmed a few fashion videos using the canon 600d but have been wanting an update, would the canon 850d or canon m50 would good at making cinematic videos?

  • @cameralabs

    @cameralabs

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! TBH they wouldn't make much difference in quality as they're all 1080 really. The M50 has a 4k mode, but it's cropped and doesn't have good AF. It depends what you mean by cinematic. If you mean a more blurred background, then just get yourself a lens with a smaller f-number, the cheapest is the EF 50mm f1.8 STM, but it doesn't have stabilisation so use a tripod. If it's the colours, then you can tweak the colour profile in the camera or in post. if it's the sharpness, then look for a model with decent 4k, like the M6 II or any of Sony's models. I use a Sony A6400 which has great 4k and decent AF.

    With Nikon the APS-C dSLR doesn't have a future due to the common Z mount in APS-C and full frame cameras. However with Canon the APS-C dSLR cameras will survive longer because the mirrorless APS-C EF-M mount cameras since their introduction in 2012 haven't been proved strong enough.

    excellent presentation, again, Gordon. Wow, the IBIS on the 850 was virtually worthless...in all modes. The crop made it progressively useless for mobile video capture. I miss my old 550D/T2i for two reasons, it was really light and had a solid grip, which are important when shooting all day without a strap. I even kept my Canon EF-S lenses. When you look at the competition however, the 850D just doesn't add up. It's similarly priced to the Fuji X-T3 and Panasonic G9, and both are fully specc'd professional MILC cameras.

    This is very difficult for me because although I am a “ hobby “ photographer, I have been at it for 7 years. I started with the T3i and 24mm pancake lens. I loved that combo until I used it so much it started to slowly start having issues. I am on disability so I’m not flush with cash so I actually switched to a Nikon D3300 and took some of my best images with that but I still preferred Canon for skin tone. I have tried every brand there is. Fuji, Olympus, Sony, Pentax, etc. I am now using the Canon M50 with the 22mm and the Canon 50mm 1.8 using a Fotodiox adapter. However, I bought it used and the LCD screen is starting to black out. I only shoot stills and I find that this is just an ok camera for them. I shoot mainly flowers, nature, macro but occasionally street and I love texture in my shots. I’m ready and definitely in need of an upgrade. I’m sooo torn between the 90D and the 6D M2. I have never used a full frame camera and I know the lenses are more expensive. I have also heard about dynamic range issues but from most of the reviews from every day photogs, not THAT much of an issue. I really want to get more into macro so I will need something that can magnify my object since most of the time, manual focus is usually the only way to get that “ perfect” shot. I have thought about the Sony a6500 or Olympus OMD EM 5 m111 but I just love Canon. Except for one thing. The duel pixel AF that only works in live view mode!!! Why would they do that? I HATE it with a passion! LOL! Anyway, right now the 90D and 6D M2 are about the same price. If the T8I is an option, I could definitely save some money and buy better lenses. I don’t do a lot in post but I love black and white. If you have any advice, please help. I don’t seem to have luck with refurbished gear, even from Canon itself so I don’t really want that. Hell, I have actually had to send back almost every other camera or lens I have ever ordered for that matter. I was using Amazon so I tried B&H and got my first M50 with 5,000 actuations but it was supposed to be brand new. I am even considering the Fuji X-S10 because I love the fully articulating screen but again, lenses are so expensive. I have chronic back pain so I need an articulating screen. Thank you!

  • @cameralabs

    I'd say look at my M6 II and 90D reviews for starters. If you need to use the screen for composition, then you are using live view, so that shouldn't be a problem. If you want dual pixel AP in the viewfinder, get a. mirrorless camera as they are 100% live view. That said, much of this decision will be driven by your ability to get a good macro lens you can afford.

    @@cameralabs Thank you so very much Gordon! I appreciate that. I really only need 3 lenses ( maybe 4) for all that I do. Fuji would be lovely but it’s hard to find 3rd part lenses and good Fuji glass is so expensive, as is Sony. I will figure it out. I don’t think I explained my problem with the articulating screen. I prefer a view finder. It’s what I am most comfortable with. However, because of my back pain, I have to use it for certain images I can’t get to. That’s why I have an issue with duel pixel af on the Canon DSLR camera’s. Just wanted to be clearer on my original post.

    @@buddah610 ok, that makes more sense. The beauty of the Canon systems is there are so many second hand or third party options, so you'll be able to find a good macro lens cheaper than most other systems. You can also adapt EF lenses very easily onto their mirrorless bodies, so no problem there. Once again, on the mirrorless cameras, you'll replicate the screen experience in the viewfinder, including having dual pixel AF. As well as the M6 II, you may want to consider the EOS RP as it will give you full-frame quality, a fully twistable screen, electronic viewfinder and access to all the EF lenses via an adapter - make sure you get it with the EF-EOS R adapter. Check out my EOS RP review, and also my RF 85mm f2 review if you fancy a macro-ish lens in the native mount. There's some good deals on the RP right now.

I have a Canon 850d, 50mm 1.8 and 24mm 2.8 lenses, and a kit lens 18-55. Would you advise me to update the camera to the 6dmii, or would you advise me to invest in better lenses? Is the 850 possible to get a professional job with me, or does it not mean that I can be a professional photographer with it? And if you advised me to invest in lenses, would you advise me, which lens should I buy? And if you advise me to get a new camera, which is the best option, knowing that I am a student and the budget is not the best thing? I will do associations and so on?😅 And thank you very much for the beautiful videos. I benefited a lot from you ♥️

    I'd advise anyone - not to buy the Canon 2000d or 4000d...NO Dual Pixel Auto Focus, these cameras were obsolete when they came out, Canon just put WIFI in. I still use Canon 600d and a Samsung NX11 so I don't chase gear (I work with what I have and around their respective flaws) but I know what spec I would want/need when/if I need to up-grade. The lack of micro-adjustment on those DSLRs may be a waste of money - depending on the type of photography you do. Getting sharp focus with those DSLRs and their potential back/front focus inaccuracies...well you may regret spending money on them. When I use my Canon 600D radio triggers, studio soft-boxes etc I always stop the aperture down - at least f5.6 for better focus depth, both my Canon 600ds front focus no such problem with my Samsung NX11 (mirrorless). Worth doing a Google search - "canon dpaf". Sorry for the elaborate comment but it's a very important consideration to take into account for any photographer (probably new, but not necessarily).

  • @darlingtoncd

    @N578MD The problem is off-sensor phase focusing requires calibration because the actual sensor and the off-sensor phase detect sensor are not aligned with each other so although a firmware up-date may help if the lens operational need for an up-date (speed accuracy etc) and as long as the off-sensor phase detect is aligned (calibrated) with the sensor itself then he camera can benefit from that but being aligned is vital. A lot of the time they will be close enough. With mirrorless the off-sensor phase detect is redundant and the sensor itself "tells" the lens when it has achieved focus and this can be greatly improved with hybrid auto focus (as contrast detect can be more accurate and combined with speedy phase detect👍) It's taken a while but a number of pro photographers on here have come round to realizing this (many examples on here). A typical article that sums this up is expertphotography.com/phase-detection-autofocus/ and expertphotography.com/test-camera-autofocus-issues/ and kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJyprdd8dc2nprA.html Sorry for the long winded reply.

    Honestly, as a Rebel T6 user it doesn't really bother me, it's easy to get and charge multiple batteries and I'm usually moving around when I'm using the camera anyway. Also, you can get a "dummy battery" that allows you to run it on USB power anyway, which is useful for my portable Astrophotography rig, removing the slight extra heat of the battery can calm down the noise from long exposures just that extra little bit.
