    The beauty of film cameras is that their picture quality only depends on the lenses and the film stock used. Even with a much cheaper camera like the EOS 30 or 300 you get the same picture quality as with more professional models -- the difference are the handling and the feature set. I have had the EOS 1V and have still the EOS 3, because the EOS 1V is much heavier without offering any other advantage in use. One should also be aware that while it is easy to get an EOS 3 in near mint condition, the EOS 1V cameras often were heavily used by professionals (higher shutter count and/or "cosmetic" damages).

    I have a pair of 1n's. I also prefer heavy cameras for certain situations. A wider strap helps a lot in negating the effect of a heavy camera. That being said, I also have a bunch of 300's that just fell into my lap. I often borrow those to friends who want to try analog photography.

    I own both and with all fairness eos 3 does almost the same as eos 1v (I am not using burst mode). But then 1v is that little bit better in every way. It feels much nicer in hand, shutter sound is the best I have ever heard, all feels so well dumped. Higher shutter speed flash sync, 100% viewfinder and weathersealing and it is still serviceble in 2021 by canon. I bought at the beginning eos 3 cause it cost me little money yo try film (ef lenses I have already owned) and I was not sure if I keep shooting analogue but then I regreted I didn't look for 1v from the beginning. If you like photograhy and you can afgord just go for 1v. It is a masterpieces of a gear.

    I just got my 1V and I've been experiencing random light leaks on the rim of one side of the frame. Its weird because its not on every frame but some of them have it. I took it to a repair shop today and the tech said that its because the door is plastic and although there's a rubber weather seal, the door can warp over time and light leaks like mine were not uncommon. Have you experienced this with your 1V?

  • @TonyWodarck

    @TonyWodarck

    3 жыл бұрын

    I kinda had a similar issue. Look at your negatives and see if the light leaks go across the sprockets or just inside the frame? My issue was inside the frame and I believe it was from the shutter getting hung up and overexposing a sliver of the frame. It only happened at higher speeds.

    Good video. I'll take it even further and recommend the Elan 7n for less than $100. Mine was $90 mint from KEH. I believe it's a step below the EOS 3, but a version was sold with eye control. It's one of the last film cameras Canon made, so focusing and metering should be on par with your cams. It also has the diopter adjustment. I'd love the 1v but for the pictures I take, I couldn't justify the price premium.

    I have this one, it is a nice camera indeed, it goes by the name EOS-30 in non-US parts of the world. Build is a bit more plasticy and it is quite a lot lighter than either EOS-3 and the 1V. Focus accuracy and speed is less of a performer than the 1v/EOS-3 for sure, but it does get the job done and it is a very user-friendly camera and it does deliver well. I have one, but I tend to grab the 1V more than the EOS-30, unless I am looking for a very light, compact, auto-focus and still reliable analog camera.

    I am mainly a Sony shooter who transitioned from Nikon to Sony in 2017, but I have bought many EF mount lenses through the years. If I just need a film camera to test out various film and cinestill, should I go for a EOS 3 or is there a more compact and lighter camera which you would recommend? I would probably just use it on location with various lighting conditions for a few test shots and then put it back in my bag.

    I've got an EOS 620 in excellent condition that I very luckily stumbled upon for cheap. While it's a joy to use and pretty damn simple, getting a weather sealed camera, better autofocus with more than one autofocusing points, and more metering options make me consider the 1n, 3, and 1v. The 1n is most appealing in terms of budget and I know I couldn't go wrong with it, but more autofocusing points with the 3 and 1v are just so desirable. It's a tough call.

Oddly, I really like the EOS Rebel T2 which I would have NEVER thought I'd like, maybe best of all. It has crazy high specs for a plastic camera, because it was released in 2004 and they threw everything in there to be competitive with Nikon's consumer model. It's so light and tiny and ugly, and fantastic. It's cheap, and I'm buying multiple copies, just in case. 🙂

    EOS-1V is a much sturdier and better camera than the EOS-3. I like them both, but when it comes to durability and performance the 1v is just a beast. Fully weather sealed and so rugged I am sure you can knock out any robbers with it and take their portrait while they are on the ground. There is a reason why the 1v was brought everywhere in the world by the professionals at the time, rain, dust, war peace, deserts or snow and ice....just keeps on trucking. The EOS-3 feels and looks and preforms like a pre-beta release of the 1V, loved the Eye-control over the focus points, but it did die on me during a light rain-shower. It did not get very wet actually, but it has nothing in the sense of weather sealing, like gaskets etc, just plastic over electronics, so if I had it, it would be in the studio.
