Nice footage - I just bought a C70, coming from a C100 M2 - no regrets so far except I do miss my EVF and I'm working on a DIY solution. Totally agree on the AF even with the firmware improvements but I often use one shot AF which I find is quite responsive on the C70. I came from a super35 Sensor so it's no big deal and I knew it wasn't a low-light superstar. CLOG2 seems to be the "sweet spot" for grading and popular from what I've seen with other C70 shooters. C70 is a great camera. I ultimately went with the R5C for FF and the EVF. Image is 90% of what you get with C70 which is good enough for me. Battery life is a huge issue but still work(around)able.

Thank you for this. Really love the c70, and can't wait for the version II with updated autofocus and a few other twerks fixed.

So beautiful! I have always wanted to visit Yosemite.

Which lut package do you recommend starting with? Love your stuff! Just picked up a R5 yesterday!

Great video, love the footage and grade. The C70 image is just 👌 I think it was already mentioned, but changing the LCD luminance to +2 really helps with shooting in daylight on the C70. Make sure to use waveforms or zebra's though because it can throw off how you expose.

Agreed - I almost always have to raise my luminance value on the screen when I'm shooting in the field. When I'm shooting in a studio situation, I set it back at normal (0). It's definitely a little weird: IME, the exposure is dead-on accurate with the screen at normal luminance, but then I just can't see the screen well enough outside of a studio situation. And the waveform meter is great, but it's so dang small that if I'm any distance from it, I can't really see it precisely enough.

Hey Eric do you add sharpening to your C70 footage in post or in cam? My C70 footage looks soft almost blurry. I know it’s supposed to have a soft filmic look but my shots seem out of focus. I’m using face only autofocus.

Hi Eric, when you use stabilization on lens do you turn on stabilization in camera also? What do you recommend with that. I shoot weddings mostly handheld.

Ahhh man, so good!!! I'm thinking about the same monitor for my C70. I will say, for me the Tilta top handle (with the handle facing out over the lens) has been awesome to shoot with.

Great video. I happen to shoot a photo in almost the exact same spot as the thumbnail for this video. Great content by the way. I’m from Newport, OR.

This is incredibly beautiful! I think the reflection shot of El Cap is my favorite. If you don't mind me asking, do you have much of a preference between using XF-AVC vs RAW on the camera? Or see any big benefit to using one or the other (excluding file size 💀).

literally haven't tried XF-AVC yet & also haven't done the update for RAW yet hahaha - I'm just so impressed with the mp4 that I haven't even considered other options yet. I'm not sure I'll ever shoot the RAW - maybe for big projects, but this C-Log2 in the mp4 is everything I've wanted for so so so long. File sizes being one of the biggest factors in there, especially with doc work now.

Great stuff. So you put the highlights at 70? How do you prefer to check exposure?

I evaluate the scene, and if the important stuff isn’t at 40-60, I’ll adjust to hotter highlights (80-90), so I don’t blow the highlights but expose well for the subject (usually in the midtones of those scenes.

The timelapse was definitely the handheld shot

This was actually all shot and edited in 17x9, so close to 2:1 - I really like shooting in 17x9 and delivering a lot of films in 2.39:1

I noticed your C70 and 70-200 on a Peak Design Tripod. Can that little head handle the weight of that rig?

One thing to try on the monitor. In the monitor setup menu look for "Luminance", this value effects the lcd's backlight. Change it to +2 for outdoors, and keep using Zebra's since this may impact your exposing by eye a bit. For me it made the lcd usable outdoors vs the default. It will also affect battery life slightly. It's also required when shooting the HDR luts since the normal backlight is too dim to review HDR properly.

I upped the luminance a ton, and it was still super dark. Made me second guess my highlights a lot too haha - yeah, I've shot with an external display for about 2 years now, and I've been spoiled, so I'm gonna go back to that life hahaha

@@EricFloberg Just triple confirming, did you up the luminance value or the brightness ? Luminance only has 2 settings, which is why I ask. Admittedly +2 luminance is not as much backlight as is needed in direct sun, and a highbright external monitor is still 100% better. But I still feel +2 is usable outdoors. Again keeping brightness at 0.

@@EricFloberg Give it a try! Make sure to keep brightness at zero, it will wash out the image and be basically useless. Bad for exposure, etc. But putting Luminance to +2 and compare it in the sun to an external monitor. I've found external monitors tend to still be brighter depending on the nits, but generally speaking it's way more usable.

I would love a seminar with you. I have all the capabilities to make something beautiful but I dont or take any time to myself. I'm out n nature and could film for 10 minutes of a 4 hour hike to create something but I never do.

That was actually the first mistake Gene has ever made. Wild to get it on camera.

1) The LCD screen is not that dim Try adjusting the luminance 2) For better autofocus do not use CLOG 2 in low-light. Less contrast makes autofocus more difficult
