Canon 5D MkII - Using Aperture, Shutter Speed, and Manual Modes
Фильм және анимация
UPDATE: I have launched my first Photography book on Amazon. Check it out here: amzn.to/3SbjWRo
A quick beginners guide to aperture, shutter speed, and the manual mode for DSLR cameras, as shown on a Canon 5D MKii.
This is pretty transferable to any camera. This you will learn how to set aperture on DSLR of any brand.
As a quick overview:
Aperture - uses to adjust how large the lens aperture. The larger the aperture, the more light that comes in to the sensor. And a wider aperture also means more bokeh. The smaller the aperture, the less light and less bokeh.
Shutter speed - a fast shutter speed will freeze action (but gets less light in). A slower shutter speed means you get motion blur with your subjects (great for waterfalls and light painting).
Manual mode - allows you to adjust both aperture and shutter speed, giving a wider array of creative control.

Thank you for this. I am in a class and have to understand these settings. You've made it much clearer. Thank you.
You are a blessing. 5d mark I came today and i couldn’t change the aperture in Manual, only because I didn’t know that the 3rd option on the on/off switch controlled that. Thank you!

Just got an mkii. I grew up using canon then switched to an analog contax to then a Sony a7 series. To now owning my first 5d mkii after about 10 years of not using canon. Your video helped me figure out the “on - on” switch. Thank you!
I just bought the original 5d on an Ebay auction, and couldn't figure out how to adjust the aperture and shutter speed together. You explained everything perfectly, thank you!
This is very helpful! Thank you! This is a really really good explanation!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! Really cleared up a whole lot of confusion for me. Greatly appreciated!🙏🏽✨
Great video. Very useful information throughout. Thank you.
I'm trying to switch over from an SLR to digital and was so confused when I picked up my rental this morning. This helped clear up the basics a ton, thanks! Very clear and I like that it was short. The manuals are so dense and hard to pinpoint exactly what you need.
its really help me thanks for this video
You are the only person that explained this video very well :) thank you!!
Great tutorial, you helped me a lot!
This video was so helpful, thank you so much
Very Helpful thank you very much I am taking a $1,000 photography course and youve broke it down very simply this is going to help me with my course thank you very much.
Thank you very much, Terence. Good informative tips. Please, could you do one for Canon 5D MK III? Thank you.
Thank you! It really helped me
You mention using the OFF setting on the lock/on/off lever (switch on the Mark iv) under the lower right back wheel, but I think it should be stressed that with it set to "LOCK," it's impossible to control the f/stop & shutter speed settings with the front and top wheels. But you can do so with the "Quick" (Q) menu.
Thank you! How easy! I just upgraded with no manual on my new one and I keep saying it’s like giving an Amish a Lamborghini and saying here have fun! I must have not been wording my searches right, because I have not been able to find a video to help me find what I was looking for until yours. Thank you!

Helped me to understanding more. Thank you.
Awesome mate! Thanks for the help!
To answer Ale Terro's questions, he is correct. On all the DSLR camera systems I've used, the aperture is controlled from the software on the camera itself, NOT on the lens like many older film cameras.
So helpful! Thank you!
Thanks that was very useful. Just being picky : I think it would have been good to also show the effect of depressing the shutter release half way, so that the display will then show the related speed when in you are in aperture priority mode etc.
Simple and nice explanation
thank you!! I watched 2 seconds of this and realized I did not have the camera all the way on and that was why it would not let me adjust my f stop. I thought I broke it. .thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much very useful

Hello, I just bought a used one. I come from using a Canon rt3. Question when I look though the eye view finder, I see my red points but I don't see all around it. It's like a clear circle I can see my subject with my dots. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i just bought 5d mark1 and i cant change the f Stops on manual mode only i tried everything what might be the problem?

Hi there This could be a simple issue (if it is like my 5DMKII). You probably did not enable the Quick Control Dial. The Quick Control Dial in the large round disc/dial on the back of your camera just above the on/off switch. When in Manual mode, it is used to control the f stops. However, that needs to be enabled to do that. The most common error (of not enabling it) is simple. From the "OFF" position, if you click it to "ON" and only hear one CLICK, it is only ON and not in Quick Control Dial mode. You need to turn the ON button 2 clicks to enable the Quick Control Mode. That would mean moving the ON button setting to align with the little white line that leads up to the dial itself. Very simple, right?! :) Let me know if that was the issue. Terrance

Hi @@diladmazmi4921 Here is option #2. You may have a Custom Function set that is impacting this. The one I know will do this AF Point Selection method. Here is how I set it on my MkII. Not sure if it is the same on the MkI, but should be similar: - go to menu - scroll over to Custom Functions (should be a Camera icon on the top right side) - select C. Fn III: AutoFocus Drive - Move over to the 3rd setting (or the one called AF Point Selection Method) - enter that and ensure it is get to 0 or Normal It if was set to Quick Control Dial direct, that will disable you Quick Control dial I assume you got the MkI used, so there may be various functions set you may not want. You can also clear all of those. - go to menu - scroll over to Custom Functions (should be a Camera icon on the top right side) - select the last item - Clear all Custom Func. (C. Fn) This will restore all default settings from the factory. Let me know how that worked. Terrance
thanks buddy

how to get clear video at 360p on youtube
@PhotographyIn123
6 жыл бұрын
1 year late, but here we go... Don't shot 360p video for KZread. It won't be clear. The current minimum standard (to keep audience retention) is HD quality (so 1080p). However, I suspect that in a few years 4k will be the norm.
