Canon 24-70mm f2.8 USM ii Review with Samples

Canon 24-70mm f2.8 USM ii Review with Samples is my opinion of this lens after using it for over a year and a half. I've used this for a couple professional shoots and one wedding shoot. It has become the most important lens in my kit due to its versatility.

Hey man, great videos. If you see this comment, could you give me an opinion on what lens is best for video on the 90D: 18-35 Sigma, 17-55 2.8 Canon, or the 24-70 2.8 Canon. Usually I do not need more wide angle than 24mm on the crop sensor, so from the focal length all would work. My concerns are: - I would have bought the Sigma 18-35 already, but I fear the focus isn't as good and also i might miss the IS for some handheld shots. But the bokeh 1.8 on the sigma looks nice! - The 17-55 2.8 seems to be the best bang for the buck. Native lens so no focus problems, but with a much worse build quality. But IS and more range in the more tele direction. - Now I think the 24-70 could be a good compromise between build quality like the sigma and still staying native so no worries with the continuous AF or focus calibration. I mean 2.8 is not for the magic shots, but still at this focal length very good. I currently film with my old kit lens 18-55 but I need a second one for a two camera setup and also strive for an update in image quality so a 2.8 or 1.8 would be amazing. I also thought about going with a prime at 24 mm (I have the 50mm 1.8) but for video a zoom would be much more convenient. If anyone could help me with this decision, who has tested these lenses on the 90D would be nice!

The Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is my favorite lens on the 90D for video. It doesn't need to be calibrated for video, only for the AF in the viewfinder. I use the Canon 24-70mm f2.8 also, but it's literally twice the price. For a crop sensor 90D, the Sigma is cheaper, smaller, and lighter with equal if not sharper image quality. I use the Zhiyun Weebill S for stabilization, it can hold the weight no problem. The 17-55 f2 8 looks interesting though, I just don't have any experience with it.

@@FitsandFun I got a good deal on the 17-55 f2.8 and went with it. It was considerably cheaper used and until now I don't regret it. Nice image and fast AF. 2.8 is not very wide open, but I don't need that for the studio most of the time anyways. Thank you for your answer! Just saw it late, sorry!

My old crop sensor dslr I rarely used so I’m hoping I’ll use this more especially to make great photos for my art for my website and prints and eventually video . I’m nervous though because it’s sooo much moola.💰 r6 mark ii has image stabilizer built in

Hi! Okay so I have the 90D and a 50mm 1.4 however I’m stuck on whether to get the 70-200 or this lens ? I do already have a 17-85mm too which is similar but it’s quite rubbish quality from far away if I’m honest! I’m worried about the lack of IS in the 24-70! I’m wanting to get into wedding videography, any advice on which one to get ?

I have the 90d and the 24-70 f2.8 ii. I was unimpressed when l first got it. The 100-400 mark ii and the 70-200 f2.8 iii were stunning from the first shot. The 24-70 i was testing inside the night l got it and the 18-135 nano was easier to shoot and got sharper pictures. I had buyers remorse immediately. I came really close to returning it. I am so glad l didnt. Once l got comfortable with this lens and figured out that it takes a different technique than the kit lens. I absolutely love it. It blows the 18-135 out of the water. It has better contrast, its sharper, it has no chromatic aberration were the kit lens definitely does, and it allow for much more pronounced subject separation. Also lets not forget the better build quality and weather sealing. It was definitely worth it to me and so glad l decided to learn the lens. It has been rewarding.

Tough call, I'd say the 24-105mm would be fine for video, I'm not sure if the f/4 would give the desired look for photos. It might if you are using a full frame body. An alternative might be to get the 24-105mm and the 50mm f1.8 as a potential photo/portrait lens just in case you need more bokeh in a shot. And still save over 500.
