How did it work? You did not have stabilozing floats. I am surprized that you did not flip over the canoe.

You'll be amazed how much stability the 4' leeboard gives. I can confidently stand in the canoe...and can sit on the side of the canoe to help balance the lean without any concern of tipping. Again, the control you feel is surprising.

@@leifilvedson9604 oh ... i did not think about this at all! But you might be right! Nex time i will try without float. See my current design: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKmh1qeyY7i5osY.html

@@RUS_US Looks like you're going down the same sailing/discovery path I went down. I ended up using a tall fiberglass windsurfing mast and picked up a used Laser sail. If you're like me, you'll find you only want to be out in 7 knots or less of wind...and the Laser sail performs MUCH better at these lower winds. The windsurfing sails are too stiff. You can see my comfort with the leeboard stability here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o46Dls6ana7NctY.html Also, you may find better turning performance if your leeboard was further aft of the mast. I could pull my rudder out of the water and control my heading with only small adjustments of the leeboard position (in my case the leeboard pivots about a fixed point, but the small changes in angle make a difference in heading). A fun project. On the topic of small sailing boats, you may want to check out Angus Rowboat's Sailcruiser... they have plans you can purchase and build an awesome stable sail/row/boat with a sleeper cabin...and wouldn't be too hard to integrate solar and use a trolling motor for windless days.

Also, if you go with a laser sail, I studied kayak sail furlers and made my own version. That way I can easily adjust any changes in wind speed and not be overpowered. Have fun!
