Canoe Camping - Ullswater - Lake District - Old Town Pack Canoe - Beer Review
Фильм және анимация
Hello everyone, April the 12th = legal camping so I packed up the canoe and headed out towards Ullswater for the evening. I decided to give the little pack canoe a run out on the open water after using it a couple of times on a slow moving river.
I pitched up at Silver Bay and slept in my ancient Vango Banshee 300 tent. It was a cold night but well worth the effort after all of these months in lockdown.
I used my Rab Ascent 700 sleeping bag and Exped Synmat 7 sleeping mat which kept me warm enough during the night as the temperature dropped below freezing.

Me and the lads are aiming to head up to the Lakes from Hull soon. I've been before plenty. Buying a shovel this time so that not only can I clean my fire properly, but I can tidy any others I see left around. It brings me a sense of pride to leave a forest area in a better state than I found it. Cheers for the video, very peacful!
cracking video excellent insight well worth a watch thanks for putting it up really liked it bravo time well spent cheers

Thanks for another great video, beautiful spot, looking forward to taking my canoe to the lakes for a camp. My hair started receding, vanity had left me so I got the clippers out, I felt liberated. I now find fishing, camping or anything that involves staying out of a few nights, no problem. Wash your face and head at the same time. Trust me you’ll never look back.

Cheers mate. Yeah I think the hair cut is here to stay, no hassle hair! 😂. Good luck with your canoe camping 👍🛶
Spot on mate
Cheers Ben for a glimpse of getting back to normality! What stunning views and beer reviews, I certainly won’t be coming to you for a haircut that’s for sure.. love the canoe too. Certainly food for thought to have a canoe and find those hidden beaches etc. I’ve not managed to get my wild camp yet as work takes over (I’m self employed) but I will. Cheers Russ, yeah canoes are great, perfect for finding quiet places away from the crowds. Probably best to wait a short while before getting your first wild camp done mate, it's bloody freezing at the moment (the haircut doesn't help mind 🤣). ATB 👍

I can vouch for those temps on Monday. We were up in Snowdonia and it was absolutely baltic going to bed. We paddled around Ullswater during a break in lockdown last year, stunning place.

Your Trangia gas burner have a pre heater. That means that you can turn the canister up side down after approx 20 secs of burning, to get full effect even at low temps. Remember to turn the effect way down before flipping the canister👍

Elasticated bandage cut to size(doubled) wrap the gas cannister while your out.
Absolutely loved the video, we can’t go out overnight yet but not to long now.

Cheers! There's a hiking trail that runs up the eastern shore of the lake, it starts at Patterdale and goes up behind Side Farm campsite. I reckon if you wandered up there late on in the day you'd get Silver Bay to yourself without setting foot on the water 👍🏕.

Agree with the Coleman canister, had the same trouble in low (below 10deg c) temps
@Adventure-Outdoors
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they're a bit crap, I've got a few of the 'extreme' Coleman canisters and they seem to work better, less butane and more propane in them.

@@Adventure-Outdoors they're all pretty much the same, better using meths or petrol in low temps or high altitude.
"Paddle faster, I hear Banjos" 😉 Beautiful Landscapes, clever Gear, a steaming stew and some exotic brew. I like it! Cheers from switzerland 🍻 WTG PS: Any new plans regarding the hilux?

Incredible about the restrictions , who is your government doing that ?
Hi marra, I’ve just managed to get myself a Second hand Old Town Charles River, (can’t buy anything new at the moment), you mention you have a bigger boat I’m curious as to what that is? Cheers - great content by the way

@@Adventure-Outdoors maybe a "sour" lake, i was at a lake lately and googled if there could be a good place. Only to learn that sientists had been test fishing there for a century with no luck, it was to sour. Nothing i would have expected in the area.

@@Braapncamp That's interesting, I don't think there's anything wrong with this lake though, there's always fishermen on the shore. I reckon I'm not fishing the right areas. Local legend has it that the best bait to use are those jelly Haribo sweets, I've always thought this was a myth, but maybe not! 😂

@@Adventure-Outdoors haha, you mean jiggs or that candy for real? By the way, Wool is Ull in Swedish.
@Adventure-Outdoors
3 жыл бұрын
@@Braapncamp Yeah the candy! It wouldn't surprise me if the name of the lake has Viking origins. Some of the lakes in this region end in 'mere' such as Windermere and Thirlmere and the small lakes up in the hills are called 'tarns' - both Old Norse words for bodies of water.

You don't get any grief wild camping in those parts?
@Adventure-Outdoors
2 жыл бұрын
Most of the camping is tolerated as long as you camp up high and leave no trace etc. Canoe camping is usually done well away from roads, paths, houses or busy areas so there’s no one around to give you grief. Camping in busy areas near lakes or roads is frowned upon and the National Trust and other landowners are fairly proactive in discouraging that sort of camping as they’ve suffered the usual mess left by lazy/dirty campers 👍
Beautiful lake , trout in there ?
@Adventure-Outdoors

Yeah apparently, mainly trout, perch and pike. There was more chance of me catching a cold than catching a fish though 😂.
What sort of stove were you using?

I appreciate that you paddled to shore, set your camera up, paddled back out and then back in, just to get the right shot... That's commitment right there! 😂 Another great vid 👌🏻
