My first batch didn't seal, so I upped the temperature to 275 and increased the time to 1 hour. Everything sealed right away. I did cereal, Ritz minis, saltine minis, cornbread crackers, pretzel thins, pita chips, chipotle crackers, oatmeal and cornmeal.

Judy, I know this is a very old post but I hope you can respond. It sounds like you dry canned these items. Did you wait at least a year and open any of them and have good results?

Hello how did you do your oven canning. I m checking all the oven canning . I want to do it But afraid
When I dry can in the oven I put the jars in, let the oven heat up to 240 degrees then set the timer for 45 minutes. However, I leave the jars in until the oven and jars cool. Everything seals well *knock on wood*
Put filled jars in the oven at 225 degrees for 20 minutes, pull out one jar at a time and put the lid and ring on and tighten it, the cooling jar will have a better seal. The reason for doing this is to stop mice from chewing through the boxes and running your storage. We have a very nice house but when we started to store the mice found out and chewed through several boxes of noodles, spaghetti and scalloped potatoes. Big loss.

How did your crackers turn out doing this way? Just getting ready to do some saltines in quarts and need to decide whether to put lids on after or before. Hopefully you will see this. Thanks
You did this video 7 years ago. Would you do this again? Did they hold up? I was considering dry canning oyster crackers for all my soups, but before I go to the trouble and expense, can you update how this worked out?
Thank you! It is also nice to hear from other people on their success of food storage! God bless
Thanks for posting. Im going to try this--not that im a prepper, but id sure like to keep my crackers fresh and crispy all the same. I think it would be cool to go ahead and crumble some of them before canning. I end up crumbling them for soup and casserole topping most of the time anyways, so why not pack more volume into each jar.
I have never had a problem! I have double stacked for years. I do on some of my heavier stuff cut a card board to lay over my first stack as a sort of shelf. Blessings
Love this idea! I make spicy pretzels and chex mix every once in a while, I think I will try this!
Love the tip for turning the jar upside down!!!
I HAVE THAT SAME DISH TOWEL!!! I have been wondering about canning crackers thank you!!!
Oh so I know this is a old video, but I’m glad I saw this. I just let two cases of crackers go bad because I didn’t use them up fast enough. Thank you for this
Good to see another AZ Prepper here! Thanks for the info.
Awesome you have inspired me.. I can't wait to try this. Btw I love your stock pile lol very nice pantry !!
Great video and very informative I do mine just a little differently so I can get more in a jar jar cost more than the product lol I don’t need my crackers whole especially saltines I break them up and get twice as much in a jar save the few pennies very good video thank you Jim from Laura Alabama
I was told not to stack jars on top of each other unless you have a divider between or store with bands on. I will definitely be dry canning crackers Thank you
Thank you for this idea!
Great informative video...glad it was in my feed...👍
Something I hadn't thought of. Thanks.
I tried this last night... with only one jar that sealed. So I put back into my oven, turned up the temperature to 250 and baked another 20 minutes or so. Then I turned them upside down on the counter and this morning.. wa la... they all sealed! Thanks for sharing the video.
16 ounces boxes, wow, those were the days. Lately I cannot even get a sleeve of unbroken crackers, maybe 12 out of the whole sleeve.

The world is definitely crumbling around us!! Literally!!
I vacuum sealed with a moisture absorber. I hope they remain fresh enough for the long term.
wow...so cool I would have never thought of this.
Thank you! That is so nice!
absolutely! I still use the O2's when I put my foods in the bags. I just figure it will take out any oxygen that is left!
I vacu packed crackers 7 years ago with a friend of mine. We got 50 pounds of crackers (a pallet) from a store going out of business. You should have seen our husbands faces! They have ceased to tease us about it as we periodically open a jar and they are still fresh. The same day we also got 400 lbs of sugar, 125 lbs of popcorn and over 100 lbs. of fresh peaches. (yes we shared) I thought our husbands were going to swallow their tongues..so funny
Love your video. Have you thought of using Retort bags instead of jars? The bags are mobile and have a 6 year shelf life, and use far less space for storage. The cost is equal to the lid on the jars.
Those people that complain are the people who wont be eating. Those who dont prepare a head of time during a disaster that's a little late in the game. Just sayin...

Andrea, glad we could help!
Absolutely!!!
the only thing that I would take into consideration is the fat content in the townhouse crackers and wheat thins might shorten your shelf life a little bit I like the idea now I have to give it a try.
I love how your cat is videobombing this ;)
If you have a Winco they are running $10.49. Also if your near a Honeyville they are the same. I love them too! Blessings!
Thanks for the idea.
Great idea!
Thank you for your video. I am trying to find out if the same procedure can be done for homemade cookies. I hope you check your comments and can help me with this. Totally love your pantry. Your cat is adorable
Thank you for the video.
I've never seen the attachment for the food saver- glad I saw you do this! My huband is canning/cellaring pipe tobacco, and we've both never canned anything, so this is all learning for us. For tobacco, you MUST have the metal lid, so the attachment may work since you keeep the lid on. Where do you get those at? I have the food saver luckily. Thank you, good video!
Sorry this took so long to get back to you! Glad you had success! Like the idea of turning the jars upside down. Old school! :)
Great idea thank you!!!
Great share! Are the mason jars made with Lead Free glass? Thanks!
We use the Food Saver to keep our dry good fresh.
Super idea.
Hello, would prepackaged cornbread mixes work for long term storage if repackaged in mylar bags? Even though they contain eggs and milk, all the ingredients are dry. Thank you...
Brilliant!
I save all my jars from sauces, sauerkraut, and whatever, and they seal just fine for dry canning, or vacuum sealing dry goods. (I even reuse the mason jar lids for these purposes .) In more than two years of this, I have never had a single issue. Just thought I'd give you an idea for recycling that you may not have thought of.
I have not tried the tattle lids. I am lazy!! I like just being able to toss them! However I think I am going to purchase some just for a SHTF situation! Blessings
You know I'm going to try that right.
Thank you!
I had problems with it sealing those kind to I put the oven on 250 and it worked
Nice info! I'm so late on prepping, but what are the steps following filling the mason jar.? The temp of oven and how to seal? Where type of sealer is that? Name and model you suggest?
It’s basically a flam supper lol don’t worry about that they work great for our application and try and find one if you know somebody works at the hospital I do
Jeff from Jersey I take it your an expert here on food storage? Why heck why didn't we think of that just rotate food every 6 months and all will be fine. When the next disaster hits maybe the stores will be open and you can go stand in line with all the orderly people and wait for your turn. That's if they don't run out of food with all the heathens running amuck.
I'm new to your channel tonight and I'm already obsessed. I am just starting prepping and this is my favorite channel. I am going to purchase a food saver, but I want one like yours with the lid attachment.. What kind is yours?
Is it best to use the oven method or the Foodsaver? Just wondering if one last longer
I have the food saver machine, as, well , w the reg. and wide mouth attach..but, I am am also, wondering, if we have the , oxy. Obsor...we can use them, rt? I just don't want the oxy.obor..to go to waste. Ty for video
Great video 😊
Why not just vacuum-seal all of them with your FoodSaver instead of sealing in the oven?

You can wear out your vacuum sealer, even when you are using just the hose to seal a jar the heating element that seals bags heats up every time.

The heat is to kill any critters or pathogens.
"HOT TIP"....place canning lids between heating pads....softens rubber. When ya place lids on jar & screw down. 10X's better and sure seal.
I just searched KZread for this subject and this came up. 8 years later, great vid! I'm just wondering if you can use oxygen absorbers?
Thank you!!!
I've switched from oven canning to Food Saver dry canning. I like the wide mouth Food Saver better than oven canning but I don't know if the food will be good for decades, yet.
thank you... great video :)
I love my Food saver!
Thank you for sharing... I am currently getting ready to do my first batch. Do you suppose this can be done in wide mouth pints as well?
hello how many months does the cookies in that glass container last
Blessings!
Thanks
I noticed you didn't wipe the top of the jars. Cracker dust might have kept them from sealing.
Posted this on my Facebook page! Thanks...
When do you put the jar in the oven at 2:25 when do you tighten the lid how will the pressure get out of the jar if the lid is tight when is getting warmed up
Where do you purchase your jars? What brand do you prefer? Do you purchase the jars in bulk?
Could vacuum sealing the ritz in their orginal packaging with slits in the packaging then placing them in a mylar bag extend the shelf life of the ritzs?
WHAT ABOUT CONDENSATION? DOES WATER CONDENSE ON THE JARS WHEN THEY COME OUT OF THE OVEN INTO THE COLDER AIR?
Do you boil the jars to get the lid to pop up or place in oven if we don't have one of those breast pump things
Great video, but you don't need any desiccant packs?
Exactly! :)
Could it have been the difference in altitudes the reason they didn't seal ? Just wondering it could make a difference 🤔
I am new to canning, I would like to know if you boiled your lids and put the Jars in the dishwasher to clean them ?
What is the diff between food saver seal and oven.
Do you think you could get the same effect with just the vaccuum seal?
Yes. Vacuum seal was still tight. I had also vacuum sealed a lot of cereal, for instance, rice chex, corn chex and plain cheerios. They were rancid as well. All the above items were canned straight from the store. I still have some more 1/2 gallons of cereal that I haven't checked. I canned about 8 cases of 1/2 gallons. I am definitely an experienced canner, dehydrater, gardener and such. I've canned butter, cheeses, meat...dehydrated meats, veggies, fruits and such. Also I've dry canned (in the oven) flour, rice, pecans and such and haven't lost any of those. I think maybe it's the processed foods...?

@@Clouds457 Don't know for sure but since they have oils in them they could go bad because of that. Fats and oils turn rancid.
have you tried to vac seal canned toasted bread ?
If you heat those can does that mean you have to replace the lid once you open it and start the process over again? Or just used the vacuum seal to remove the air out.
I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you! You can purchase them at Fry's, Kroeger's, Walmart. They should be where the Food savers are sold! Two sizes reg. and wide mouth! :)
can i ask a ? do u have any problems double stacking jars. i was told by my granny never double stack jars could break seals on jars just wonderingthe wife loved thje vid she doin it tommorrow lol ty for info
Thanks. Goodluck. GOD Bless.
Please tell me the brand & model # of your vacuum sealer. I looked through your videos to see if you had one about vacuum sealers, but didn't find one. You said you put the jars in the oven with the lids on.. was that after you vacuumed them or did the heat of the oven create the vacuum?
When you say "sealed", how did you seal them?
DO YOU HAFT TO COOK THEM OR CAN YOU JUST USE THE FOODSAVER?
are those mason jars or regular jars? can u use regular jars
The ones that didn't seal, did you vacuum pack them? Or did you put the back in the oven?
You made my husband a happy man. I made some of Cokeman's smoked summer sausage the other day, and this is a perfect compliment. Doing a bunch of dry pack canning of sugar today, but this is on my list of to do's.
So you could do chips the same way?
Did you just put the jars on the oven rack or in a pan or on a cookie sheet?
Why the heat and the oven and not just vacuum sealed? Does it remove more moisture?
I do not purchase them in bulk. I purchase them as needed and when I find them on sale! Normally I only purchase the Ball or Kerr brands. I have never had any problems with them when I do my canning by a pressure cooker, I have heard there are problems withe the cheaper jars cracking under pressure. I stick with what I know! I have never had a faulty Ball or Kerr jar. Blessings
Did you put your rings on lids too in oven? Or just lids.
if i have a vac. sealer for jars can i just do it that way?
Nice cans
