I lived next door to and rented from a very well known chocolate maker for many years. He told me that the 'bloom' is just the sugar seperating from the chocolate. There's nothing harmful in it.

Great review on the crackers! Recently, I spent a considerable amount of time comparing expiration dates on the variety of crackers at Sams, and found that the CLUB crackers had a longer shelf life, so those are what I have in storage. ALSO, while in Kansas city, Mo, I visited the Arabia Steamboat Museum, and got to meet the Owner and excavator of this ship that had sunk in the Missouri River back in 1856. The ship had a HUGE cargo of food and supplies and many of the CANNED foods are on display still intact. (the food had been preserved in mud underground all those years) The excavator said he recently opened a Jar of pickles, and they tasted fresh! Mind you, those pickles are more than 150 years old!! I always think about this when I think of food preservation. I home can my own meat and totally not worried about how long they've been on the shelf! Thanks for sharing!

I was thinking of adding m&ms to my stock too. Now I have seen your experiment, I am confident to go ahead and get a couple of large bags to store away. Is there a particular reason you chose glass jars over mylar bags to store the candy? By the way, thanks for the crisper video!!! Focus is great in those close-ups!!!

I just had a dumb brain moment. I read your post while halfway spaced out and when you said you were thinking about adding M&Ms to your stock, I thought for a split second you meant like chicken stock, and I was like, “Why would you add... ohhhhhh”. Silly me. 😂

I have a chocolate chip cookie experiment going. In December I'll be opening a vacuum packed chocolate chip cookie that is 6 months old and then I have another one to open 6 months later which would be a year.

I was wondering - were the crackers just sealed in mylar bag with o2 absorber or were they vacuum sealed in mylar bags.

I have several vacuum canned dark chocolate morsels that are four years old. There is blooming on only two of them. The rest are absolutely clear chocolate. Not certain what went wrong with those ones. I didn't use oxygen absorbers in any of them, and they were all from the same bag, so it isn't that.

I have stored plain M&Ms for YEARS in mason jars WITHOUT oxygen absorbers and had no issues. This year I got the big pantry jars from Sam’s of each holiday color. I have Red,White and blue, Halloween, and now Christmas. Hoping they get Easter before my free membership expires!

Hey there, the ones that you get at Sam’s, in the big container do you think they would stay OK just like that. If you do not open them?

@@Amychristensonn I’m sure they would. My OCD needs to put them in glass. Depending where you store it, mice can chew threw plastic.

I just put away 8 sleeves of saltines in my wide mouth jars for the future. I put an oxygen absorber in their and vacuum sealed them. I’m running on faith they will be fresh in the future when opened. I’m prepping like crazy and faith is all I got. I trust they will because I did what you and others have shown and I’m so greatful for everything your teaching me! ❤️❤️

No when chocolate has light parr’s is from being frozen. That’s why Mars pays truck drivers to go around mountains vs getting frozen ie the Rockies.

If you hadn’t put absorbers in there and Mylar bags would have been stale and chocolate would have had worms in it. Experience! Good job! Also make sure you only get what you will eat every day! 🤔😉👍🏻🙏🙏❤️🙏

you forgot to mention your able to store the nutz not so much due to the vacuum seal but more because the oxygen absorber but because the absorber takes away the oxygen but more importantly because it leaves the nitrogen inside which helps keep the preservation
