Cannibal - The world's scariest roller coaster
Look at this roller coaster. It’s tall, fast, and extremely steep. Cannibal at Lagoon amusement park opened back in 2015 and has been considered one of the world’s top roller coasters ever since. It stands 208ft 63m tall, features a 116-degree drop, and has a one-of-a-kind inversion, a Lagoon roll! The thing is, these aren’t the most impressive or unique aspects of the ride. So, what is it that makes Cannibal so special?

Hello, Harry. My name is Tony Pellegrino. I'm from Rochester, New York, USA. My home park is Seabreeze, a small scale amusement park in Irondequoit, which opened in 1879. It has a roller coaster called Jack Rabbit, which opened in 1920, and is the world's oldest continuously operating roller coaster. If you could make a video about this historic coaster in the future, that would be amazing. If you ever visit Upstate New York, I recommend visiting Seabreeze even though it's a small park.
It's always nice to have the community make a video on your relatively ignored home park.

something you forgot to mention is how smooth the in-house rides are. the track pieces can be much larger since they don’t have to travel that far, and that makes the rides so much smoother. bombora is still one of the smoothest coasters i’ve ever been on, and it’s over a decade old.

Lagoon season pass holder here! Cannibal looks way more intimidating than it actually is, it's a fast, smooth ride, and an absolute joy. Whenever we go to Lagoon (which is often when we only live an hour away) it is the first ride we hit, and usually we'll come ride it again at the end of the day if we have time. One of the things that impresses me the most is how fast they keep the queue moving. As long as the ride is actually operational and cycling cars through, even when the line is out past the Ferris Wheel, it goes super fast. It's only when they're having technical difficulties that the line stalls, and I only saw that happen twice last year. Colossus is still my favorite, but that's definitely due to nostalgia.

One nice thing about the que is it also has a single rider line, which really speeds it up. 1 point you did miss about the atmosphere is on the elevater lift you can see the previous lift coming down and then wheb you are about to get crushed both carts move sideways on the lift to dodge eachother, small moment but really adds character. something else you should have noted, another thing that absolutely played a part in their decision to make Bombora in house was with Wicked, while they had designed it in house, they outsourced the making of it to Zierer, like you mentioned, however, what you didn't mention with it was that prior to launch it was discovered that the supports on Wicked were not welded properly, meaning they all had to be redone, which pushed back the opening of the ride

Rode that with my daughter when she was around 7 years old. Just barely tall enough to ride. They had to put a seat booster in just in case so she was tight enough. So what makes this ride so scary is it just has a lap bar of sorts. No over the shoulder restraints. It literally feels like you're going to fall out when it does the corkscrew to reverse corkscrew. It's a fun ride and my daughter loved it, but it just feels a bit sketchy.

Lagoon is a unique and one of a kind park which is why it is one of my favorites. It is able to keep its “small park” charm while having some of the best coasters out there. They also have two rare Bill Tracey dark rides with the Terroride and Dracula’s Castle on the main midway and Pioneer Village which has a huge collection of Utah’s oldest houses and antique museums.
I really love this ride. As someone who lives in Utah, and isn't really able to leave the state that much, I've never been able to go to any park other than Lagoon. I watched videos of people recording on more intense roller coasters when I was young, and wish we had something ourselves. When Cannibal opened, it was a much needed bump in intensity compared to the rest of the park.

I was on the maintenance crew for lagoon and it was a fun thing to build... Trust me there is so much i could tell you about that coaster... It was rotated amongst employees to work on it cause we had our other rides to do during the off season. I actually got to witness the first drop test as well... The delay for the ride was cause of the restraint system had to be redesigned it failed what they call a violence test...so it was back to the old drawing board... And also it was a eater of ppl too.. One of our guys got his hand nearly ripped off cause the wrench he was holding while torquing the bolts tight took him for a ride of his own..and it was savage ...I saw it happen it was not pretty... Also, one of the heavier parts of track was a section of the lagoon roll it was about 13,000 lbs.... OH and primordial is being built on what we used to call the grave yard....just different things that were junk or only used for frightmares. But now since I guess the long flume is gone...I wonder what that's going to be used for.... Any questions....???

@BlueZirnitra Violence test is what a restraint system goes through all points of the ride...the pins or bolts snapped and that's not a good thing...when they did the initial drop test it was weights on a mock train...it had no seats nothing ..just these huge weights... It made it the first time around... There was an actual betting pool too... It was a dream and I was on the maintenance crew so I really got to see the behind the scenes... And 90% of the paint job was hand painted and no 2 are the same like if it was wood... I mean there is alot to that ride..I actually stood inside the parameter fence when it came by me at 70mph I heard the horn and I was like WOW

I really HATE the restraint system on Cannibal. It puts a lot of your body weight resting against the "table" structure during the side to side twist, and that's extremely uncomfortable for anyone who is plus sized. Why didn't they use over the shoulder restraints like Wicked?
@hotpinkkt
Жыл бұрын
@@Kayjee17 Wicked isn't over the shoulder restraints. It has the same table like restraint but I get what you're saying. I'm suuuper skinny and petite and that makes the restraints evven worse cause you bounce around a bit and it puts more pressure on you.

Rode Cannibal last year when I went on a road trip and thankfully, Lagoon was right on the path to our destination. I have to say, I was not dissapointed at all. Being a SoCal resident, I had never ridden anything like it. Yeah, we have HangTime but it is NOTHING compared to this monster. It's my #3 now only being beaten by GhostRider and Twisted Colossus
Fun Fact: though they no longer paint the Roller Coaster, it used to be constantly painted white, earning a nickname from the locals (including me😊) of the "White Roller Coaster." The nickname is not as popular now with the color change, but I'll always remember it as that.
I'm over in saratoga springs and this is by far the most I think I have seen lagoon mentioned. So glad I didn't miss out on it!

Hello There, a great Video and it was good to jear about the creativity of the in house ride development of this really decent rollercoaster, which is very unique. Cheers Peter :-)
One funny coincidence I’ve noticed about this ride is that it opened one day after Schwur Des Karnan, both are considered to be some of the scariest roller coasters in the world, both hyper coasters, both have a indoor lift hill, both have a element of surprise.
I live about an hour or so away from lagoon, been there quite a few times… love it. Not a fan of cannibal or wicked but they are cool rides. I love jet star 2 and colossus. I never knew jet star 2 was older. I always thought it was younger then colossus. You should do a video on the rollercoaster (also known as the white roller coaster). You briefly touched on it but the history of it is fascinating. The amount of money lagoon sinks into that ride just to keep that history alive. That would be awesome to see a video about.

I love Lagoon. I was in highschool when this ride came out and my science class had a project where groups had to make the best but still safe rollercoaster. The winning group got a free trip to Lagoon so they could ride this coater. It was a fun project.
It's brilliant design work, because everything about Cannibal is what would happen if you asked for a laundry list of features from enthusiasts and families, then had to stick it into one ride. The forces are unique, but not remotely as strong as Jet Star, Colossus , or Wicked. It's smooth as glass. The restraints allow your body to move around, and the height limit is pretty normal. It provides a range of elements, so that if one thing isn't your favorite (or is scary for a little one) there is still a lot to enjoy. But it also doesn't feel like a compromise ride, or a one trick pony. The engineering and design teams knocked it out of the park.
I was very impressed with lagoon. So many thrills in a small space.
That ride looks epic!
Holy crap! That looks amazing!
I live half an hour north of Lagoon and go there every year. My niece worked there for a few years until 2 years ago. I love Lagoon! Wicked is my favorite coaster there, but cannibal is a VERY close 2nd. The scariest part is the elevator ride up. The drop is fun, and super steep too! They've been building a new coaster near cannibal and hopefully, it'll be done soon! They usually build a family-friendly ride after a coaster, and vise versa.

The first time I got to ride Cannibal, my little sibling and I were alone in the front row! It was for sure a breathtaking experience. I really do appreciate the extra twists and turns after that huge drop, as if they'd not had those, it would be total whiplash after that drop. The scariest part is by far the slow elevator ride up -- you said in your video that when you're about to enter the car, you're already stuck-- that's not technically true, as there are panic exits and you can always flag an employee down to direct you out. But when you're in the elevator? *That* is your real no turning back moment. You can't exit at all. And then there's the slow curve and the drop, and it's only less scary than the elevator part because you aren't thinking at all, just holding on for dear life, certain you'll fall upside down out of the car. Gahh I loved it! It's very rare for me to see a coaster video about a coaster I've actually ridden, so this was way cool to see! :)

This is my field I love theme parks and luckily this park is local to me. Dal freeman is an incredible man I encourage you to look him up and his accomplishments he’s still alive to this day though I believe he’s 96, but without him a lot of the equipment for skiing wouldn’t exist along with most rides at lagoon. He also worked on splash mountain as an imagineer and Canibal was one of his last projects. The train you 3:23 was once used at the theme park known as Pixieland it was a small park on the coast of Oregon I believe it lasted just a few years but closed fairly quickly. Though the parks left over concrete was removed a few years ago returning the environment back to normal. Colossus the double looped coaster at 5:04 was a fair ride. It was purchased from the European fair circuit and moved to lagoon next time you go or if you go. Check out the mounts on the ground some are giant things of gravel as this ride wasn’t made to be stuck deep in the ground just held down. but to think that coaster was for fairs and can be taken down or setup in 1 day is incredible actual fact of how fast the fair circuit stated. Lastly I will add I like cannibal though I thinks it’s capacity is lacking I understand why it’s limited but I often don’t ride it due to the sheer volume of people. In line.
Deffo getting more confident with your delivery, pal! Solid video.

Thanks!
Primordial is open and it’s my favorite ride at the park!
It’s not the catapult that’s next to it, I think that one would be more exciting. Cannibal has the expression of fear. plus the bathroom over there is really cool 😂
I've been there before and it's been a lot of Fun.😊
Cool video!

Thanks!
This is the best roller coaster. Despite my season pass I have only ridden it once this year!

You need to ride it some more!
i love that thing
🐉 I cannot wait to ride PRIMORDIAL! 🦉
I remember riding this a few years back and it was amazing! I will say that I was rather lucky as when I got off the ride the power went out around the park and the next set of riders were on the elevator and the elevator ended up dropping due to the power outage, everyone was fine to my knowledge but still a terrifying thought nontheless
That looks amazing but I’m not sure you’d catch me on that the DIY story sounds too much like Verruckt 😂
Did they take inspiration from a gerstlauer infinity coaster because Cannibal just seems like something only Gerstlauer would build something like that
I have been on cannibal and I really recommend it, if you love thrill and roller coasters, this one is for you!
Where is the roller coaster appeared on 5:53
I agree it *looks* so so scary only thing that looks scarier imo is the 4D coasters like X2 and bigger.
I think that Intamin water😂 coaster also haves something around 60m elevator lift hill
My first thought was that it's not the scariest roller coaster, but as I tried to think of what is scarier I realized that maybe the word "scary" is what's tripping me up. Maybe "thrilling" would be better? I'm not scared of Cannibal, but it is a pretty thrilling ride! When I was a kid, the most intimidating ride for me was Free Fall at Magic Mountain. I don't know why, as other rides were much higher and faster. To this day, I have yet to ride a roller coaster that has had me screaming in excitement as much as X at Magic Mountain (I typically don't scream on rides, but X was just sick!). I believe it's been renamed (maybe revised?) since I have last been on X, so I don't know what it's current state is. Anyway, Lagoon has some rides I really enjoy. Cannibal is great (if you're lucky enough to find it not broken down!) Wicked is fun, but don't ride it when the sun is overhead unless you like closing your eyes anyway 🙈

X has been renamed to Twitter ;)
POV: Tries to make the same thing in planet coaster "This ride is too extreme!"
