Canister Vent Valve Replacement (2007 Chevy Suburban P0142 Code)

Hey guys in this video I'm replacing my canister vent valve on my 2007 Chevy Suburban. In my last video I replace my purge vent valve trying to fix my P0142 small leak code. But that did not fix my problem. So, I connected a smoke machine to my truck this time trying to find the small leak. I believe I founded the leak but it was not my canister vent valve. It was the fuel return line on my gas tank. But that was after I replaced the vent valve. I hope this helps someone to replace the canister vent valve.

Thanks for the help I started and finished the job in about the time it took to watch the video, a few minutes paused in between but super helpful man!! I had a square steel bar almost small enough to fit the square turner Had to shape it down and mold it to the fit and to an extension then I got the tube off from the actual spot haha Because I don't have the original turning piece!! Isn't that great Your video helped a lot Love your energy Thank you

No, the fuel pump has nothing to do with this code. And after replacing the vent valve. I found out that was not May problem ether. If you look at 21:30 minute mark in this video. You will see that my problem was o-ring on the return hose on top of my fuel tank. That could be a problem too. So, smoke machine would help with finding you problem. You could just have a crack hose so where. It could be your purge valve. I say all of that because it’s could be anyone of those and would get expensive just to replace all of them.

Thanks for the video. I also have a 2007 Sub with only 74 miles. Check engine light turned on with OBD code P0446 (Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit 1/1. I've replaced the gas cap, vapor vent canister valve, vapor jumper wire and the Emissions Vapor Canister Purge Valve Solenoid EVAP Vent ( I don't think it's necessary but I did it anyway). Cleared it and the check engine light is gone but after driving 93 miles, the I/M is still not ready with a combo drive of city and fwy. Drove it for another mile and after 6 cycles, when I ran the OBD at 94 miles to see if it's I/M ready, unfortunately I see the same "pending" P0446 code despite driving it up to 110 miles hoping it will clear on it's own. So I decided to erase the pending code/OBD and did the same thing again. Drove it up to 92 miles without check engine, still not I/M ready and at 94 miles later it's still not ready and the "pending" p0446 code is back. Replaced the vapor vent canister valve, vapor jumper wire again just in case I have a bad part, but unfortunately pending P0446 code is back. I'm hesitating on replacing the vapor vent/big box like cause I don't have issue filling up gas and no gas odor around the area too. Could it be the fuel tank pressure solenoid? I hope not... cause I know this is pretty common on the 2006 but not on the 2007. I'd appreciate yours or anyone's.

Sound like you have replace almost everything. In your list I did not see Purge Solenoid that's at top of the engine. Here is my video on that kzread.info/dash/bejne/o2iTrcqfituqc84.html . It looks like you are going to have to get a cheap smoke machine to find your problem. If you check engine light is not coming on. That PO446 might be a history code and you can not erase them I think. But I don't know why your I/M are not becoming ready. I still think you need a smoke machine.

I changed my canister and reset the code drove my Tahoe around and now I am getting a 0442 for a small leak but I have a smell of fuel vapors coming from the drivers side by the gas tank I believe.

No, I had changed my purge solenoid before I changed my canister vent valve. Sounds like your purge solenoid is not venting your gas vapor and that is what you are smelling. To be honest I really don’t know but I can guess. I have never left one unplugged. First you should get a check engine light and your gas tank may not vent which will hurt you gas mileage. It may run ruff because your tank may not vent. Plus it could make it tuff to put gas in your tank. That’s all the problems I can think of.

Kellie Hall That is a plastic c-clip that you have to push up with a screw driver and pull the hose off at the same time. If you are talk about the hose on the vent canister in this video? At the 10:00 minute mark is where I was removing that hose.

@@kelliehall7516 I looked at that connector on top of the fuel tank and if you feel around on the connector. At the very edge of the connector. You can feel that it is not solid all the way around the connector. But they are two solid places on the connector. That is the two tabs you have to squeeze together and push frontward. You will have to squeeze it pretty hard to get it to open enough to get off the pipe that it is on. But it should come off. I hope that helps.

Shouldn't the vent valve be "open" anyway until the purge valve needs to be open, then the vent valve closes in order for the egr to do its job??? Seems to me that you SHOULD be seeing smoke from the canister vent valve when the engine is not running and / or the purge valve is not getting a duty command from the computer.
