Canelo Alvarez: Mayweather has no chance if in our primes

Ойын-сауық

World boxing champ Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez and his trainer Chepo Reynoso reflect on Canelo’s only loss in his pro boxing career: a 2013 bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Canelo talks of the silver lining that came with the loss and how he’s certain he’d knock Mayweather out if they fought each other in their primes. Reynoso remembers their sadness after the fight and feeling like they had failed their country. Later, Canelo dismisses any legitimacy of KZread celebrity Logan Paul in a boxing ring and shows his respect for Mike Tyson’s return to boxing.

Canelo also fought Shane Mosley before Mayweather and their number of fights were similar. So for all the fans who say Canelo was too green for Maywether thats not the case he just got beat. Great points, but the argument would be when is their respective primes? I'm not sure we've seen Canelo's peak, but we probably could argue Mayweather peaked early and went into a cruise-control. Because he lacked adversity in taking on challenges Mayweather may have stopped peaking higher and higher. Starting at 147 and going to 175 ⁉️ I mean, the level of challenges Mayweather v. Canelo are each setting are impressive but Canelo's trajectory is involving greater and greater risk. Prime v. Prime, Canelo wins from what I can tell.

When fighters compete not to lose instead of competing to win. Regards!!!

    that's not the literal translation. It says the worse thing that can happen is that it's important to yu to lose mothers" Obv this isn't what it means. But a lot of these sayings even native speakers can't understand or decipher what they mean. But ever since they learned the phrase they understood it as the implied meaning. Hence it never had any other meaning to them. It just doesn't translate to english but the intended meaning obv does.

    @@jackadoni Hi! I'm both native in English & Spanish. I'm Mexican. We Mexicans use the word "madres" for different contexts. It's a multifunctional word that conveys multiple meanings depending on the context we're using it in. For example: you witness an accident, you say: "Madres, did you see that?" In Spanish: "¿Madres, viste eso?" The translation wouldn't be: "Mothers, did you see that?" The closest translation in terms of everyday language use & colloquial equivalency would be: "F, did you see that?" or "Shit, did you see that?" Madres has no literal but interpretative translation similar to the F word. The use of the word "madres" has interpretative meanings like the F word. The meaning or in this case the translation, depends on who, where, & when it's being used. All the best!

    I think Floyd had two different primes. He was at his mental prime when he beat Canelo. What hurt Canelo and his team so much about that loss is that they thought they would be hunting Floyd down. Instead, Floyd stood in the pocket most of the night and he couldn't touch him. I believe Floyd's physical prime (which had a very slow taper) was during his PrettyBoy years. It's hard to imagine Canelo fighting that Floyd because he fought at 135-140. During that time he was lightning fast and took more risks. I really think is silly for him to reflect like that now. Right now he's P4P and making history. Stay in the present.

  • @PolaOpposite

    @PolaOpposite

    2 жыл бұрын

    You're parsing words. The question is when was Floyd at his best? There isn't two points in their lives they can be at their prime. You have to package it all up and pick a specific point in their career. Floyd was knocking people out at 135 and before. When he got to welterweight, Floyd was more selective about who he fought, and he only knocked out Hatton and Ortiz (with that sneaky shot), and probably more savvy in the ring. The point Canelo is making is that in his prime, Floyd could not keep him from walking him down and knocking him out. Since their first meeting, Canelo's ring generalship has gotten too good, and his power is off the charts. Eventually Canelo would hit Floyd with a shot that Floyd couldn't recover from. Pot shotting wouldn't work against this Canelo, and Canelo would not fight at a weight that would drain him. The problem with seeing these two in their prime is that their respective pime weight classes would not accomodate a match. So if this is what you're saying, you're right. This fight could never happen.

    @@PolaOpposite I disagree obviously. As I stated in my post, I think there can be a physical and mental prime. The physical having a lot to do with youth and endurance. But then I think Floyd (like Michael Jordan) got to a point where he understood the game better than most. His body (hands really) didn't allow him to do what he once could so he had to adapt. Jordan with the fade away, Mayweather with less power and more defense. If the Floyd that fought Pacman had the youth and physicality of the one that was KO'ing everyone, he would have been a very dangerous fighter. I believe he would have taken a lot more risk like he once did. I don't think any version of Floyd beats a 160-168 lbs Canelo. However at 154 I think you get the same result as the earlier fight. Just my 2 cents which in the grand scheme of things means nothing.

You can say he wasn't in his prime, but you'd be denying every article written about him at the time. Yes, he was in his prime based on the opinions of others. Where your comment may have merit is that as a welterweight Floyd was never in his prime, mostly because he had lightweight power. He won, not by his physical prime, but by his skill set.
