Liam Smith only fought in the UK prior to this fight, the hand wraps seen on Canelo are only legal (due to a loophole) in the states of Nevada and Texas (I think New York too).

@HeyMomma Regardless of what is used for, there are rules. I was not aware though that Nevada's Athletic commission regulations regarding hand wraps changed again. The rules from 2016 and the ones effective during Canelo vs Golovkin and Canelo vs Liam Smith - rules that also changed a week before the later - used to be: "Bandages on the hand of an unarmed combatant may not exceed one winding of surgeon’s adhesive tape, not over 2 inches wide, placed directly on the hand to protect the part of the hand near the wrist. The tape may cross the back of the hand twice, but may not extend within three-fourths of an inch of the knuckles when the hand is clenched to make a fist." Some hand wrappers instead of doing multiple windings of adhesive tape they would cut the tape into little strips and stack them without doing windings. The new rules are: "Bandages on each hand of an unarmed combatant are restricted to soft gauze cloth that is not more than 2 inches in width and 40 yards in length, including the knuckle pad, held in place by surgeon’s tape that is not more than 2 inches in width and not more than 15 yards in length. The knuckle pad may be folded, but must not be rolled or twisted. The tape must be placed at least three-fourths of an inch away from the knuckles when the hand is clenched into a fist. Either gauze or tape, but not both, not more than 1 inch in width may be placed between the fingers to secure the knuckle pad."

Texas rules are literally this: "Contestants who wear gloves may wrap hands in a manner approved by the Executive Director" So whatever the Director says. Also this: "Hand wraps shall be restricted to no more than twenty yards of soft gauze, not more than two inches wide. The gauze shall be held in place by no more than eight feet of adhesive tape, no more than one and one-half inches wide. The adhesive tape shall not cover any part of the knuckles when the hand is clenched to make a fist. The use of water, or any other liquid or material, on the tape is strictly prohibited. Hand wraps shall be applied in the dressing room in the presence of a department representative." This sort of hand-wrapping is only "valid" in Texas and Nevada.

Even during the hand wraps they knew there guy was getting knocked out. His brothers next.

..... Although this happened in Texas.... So I looked at the locations of all of GGG's matches and none of them were in Texas. So I GUESS that means extra layering is legal there too. I mean I did hear one time that Neveda isnt the only state that allows extra layering soooo... Maybe it's not that Canelo's cheating but that Golden Boy prefers that Canelo can have extra layering. So it's not a type of cheating but it's a good way to keep a fighter more comfortable and confident than the other.

Ive seen boxers/mma fighters get tape on the skin, then gauze, then finished up with tape before fights in other states. All the commissions need to get on the same page about the rules.

Padding used to be taken from the knuckle, now manufacturers like Grant are working with their clients for bespoke proportions.

You can't "stack" per their own rules. That's what the issue is. You're allowed to have tape over the knuckle as well as gauze. You're not allowed to add gauze. Add tape. Add gauze etc. as for the gloves golovkin used grant gloves which is known as a punchers glove. Similar to cleto Reyes MX which is made of horse hair. Gloves have to be 10oz. Some gloves have less padding around the knuckle but the weight is distributed else where to get the glove to weigh 10oz. Similar to the situation where Mariana had the cleto MX and Floyd said know you can't use these even when approved by the commission. Same things with grants.

It protects smaller bones on top of the hand, but its been manipulated to hit harder. Tape/adhesive, gauze and sweat can harden, thats why it has to be an inch from the knuckle/point of impact and can't be excessive.

More tape and gauze on a fighters hands means their hands are protected more which allows them to punch harder and more often without damage to the hand, therefore inflicting more damage on their opponent.

@@deathdecorvid9926 not necessarily. You can cause a lot more damage to your opponents skin having less padding weather it be with smaller gloves of less wraps. But as far as punch impact, the more the hands are protected, the harder you can swing without destroying your hands

I don't think a little bit of this and all his fights it's quite clear what's going on here definitely tell he was stacking he was actually over putting tape in between the knuckles and you can even see him apply more pressure it was so obvious after they finish wrapping they were putting stillmore tape and they twine it up and they put it in between and you can just see how big that looks already very suspicious and you can definitely tell way more padding going on and he was definitely stacking action axe Jen is in the tape but adding more tape going in between the knuckles

Well it was never really confirmed. It was really low in his blood and they banned him so the people would stop complaining. Also it could’ve been the meat. The PED he was caught using is supposed to stay in your hair for almost up to a year and they found no traces of it in his hair so I doubt he was actually on PEDs sadly the rumor will tarnish his career

@@richmuttsmusic2476 he got cleared of it tho, the reports said trace amounts where found similar the amount used in the meat, so they waited 3 days and tested him again and the amount was even smaller this time so they did the hair follicle test which can show up to 6 months if he had taken clenbuterol which he passed both times the thing is people get confused on the hair follicle test thinking it’s supposed to tell them the amount he had but that’s what the other test are for the hair test was to see if he had been using it constantly and as proven he wasn’t, he did get suspended tho because as a athlete he should of been more careful specially when going to Mexico
