The funniest part is the first episode they could not get help from the military, but by the last episode of the show if they called the military about borrowing a rocket, every branch would offer help.

I love how they titled this episode, which I believe is the first and one of the best episodes of the OG Mythbusters and they Title it: ”Candy Myths”. Still an interesting part of the episode but, it isn’t really what drew people in.

this brought back some great memories . this show is so much fun to watch . as a cadet in the civil air patrol . i first herd of the jato rocket myth in 1986 as cadet at the air force academy for training so when this first aired i was ok this is going to be epic an i wasn't disappointed one bit
The editing is sooo early 2000s, it's great!

Crazy the Air Force actually put a drone in the air just to see what they were up to 😂
i remember an episode where they kept teasing a segment where they were going to test what happens when a senile woman puts her poodle in the microwave. of course they never did and ended the episode saying nah because life is too precious. i kinda think it was this one before it was edited and remastered.
Perfect shirt . I am my own stunt double
Finally. Finally!
21:21 Now THAT'S pure, unadulterated Mythbusters right there.
8:50 legend has it that impala was removed from the filming location and promptly rusted away that very night.
Jfc Jamie in the cut from battle bots looks like he's an extra in the movie Cruising.
43:00 It's interesting seeing the minute differences in production between the first episodes where the budget from Discovery (if any) was probably a left over ham sandwich from the breakroom followed by whatever M5 felt like forking at their own expense versus later on when Mythbusters really took off. When Adam almost certainly said "You can't drink those last two cans of cola/coke" and where later they would have just called Adam in to do a pick line they were probably short on time to submit it to Discovery and just spliced in Adam saying "soda" from another clip. Not even judging the splice, as far as splices goes it's certainly not the worst, it's just an interesting tagmark of the show's production changes over time.
11:52 J. Pinkman enters chat.
I believe the JATO car site is the same place Jessi died.

hey I see a G3 mac there, I got one of those years ago but had no use for it and never got to fix it up and sell it
my childhood dog was named jato, my dad named him that because of how much energy he had when he was small. lived to 16 or 17, think about you all the time jato
It's interesting seeing all the meticulous work behind a few seconds of action. I get why Mythbusters became more fast-paced later on though.
I often wonder if this was the pilot episode or the first discovery funded episode

I had always thought the rockets shouldn't have been perfectly vertical because the higher motors push down more than the bottom motor. I thought the lower motor should be farther forward and each successive motor farther back. I suppose, in the end, it didn't matter.
This myth has been changed over the years....I spoke to one of the participants many years ago because I wanted to buy the rights to the story but he was already contractually bound to someone else. Ihe car was actually on a small gauge rails for mining; it never flew but crashed into a mine shaft.... It has since grown to quite the legend!

I wonder if they put the impala in neutral upon firing the rockets. As fast as that thing went it would get drag from the tires if still in gear. Would go faster in neutral.
To be honest, I would not be surprised that Mythbusters got the attention from the military after all the calls they made X'DD
Did they take it out of gear before firing rockets because speed would be restricted from the transmission and engine rpm . It would be like a brake if not popped into neutral right before rockets go
Finalllyyyyyy
The intro to this episode gives me serious breaking bad vibes
