Candlepin Bowling - Tom Olszta vs. Mike Morgan

Спорт

Special thanks to the G.O.A.T. himself Tom Olszta for providing this tape!!! :D (I apologize about the grainy footage) Air date: 7/17/1993. After defeating Billy Travers the week before, Mike Morgan came into this show having to take on Tom Olszta as the show was only roughly a month and a half away from its annual Championship show.
This you could call a match between two former Championship show winners in this show, with Tom having won three up to this point and Mike having won himself in 1978.
Lemme tell you, this match was a VERY memorable one to watch, with lots of great shot making from both bowlers and lots of bonus money too, but also included a CLUTCH performance down the stretch that led to one of the highest posted scores of the 1992 - 1993 season of the show! This is a show I've been asked about many times before and I'm happy to have finally found it.
Hope you all enjoy ^_^
R.I.P. Don Gillis.

Wow at least 10 of those names are killers, that was a great streak. He was my favorite bowler growing up in the 70's and eighties.

Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire . Again I started watching Don Gillis bowling early 1970s, amazing that Tom was only 16 when he won 3 matches in a row!! Makes candlepin bowling look easy.

I miss watching candlepin bowling and especially Don Gillis. I went to a few tapings at the old Sammy White's with my dad back in the day. My mom was born and raised in Nova Scotia and she was so excited when she met fellow Nova Scotian Gillis.

Grainy, yes, but still very much watchable. What Channel 5 would have looked like from my TV in RI. BTW, was this the start of Tom Olszta's 22-week run? I remember watching him as a kid, on both Channel 5 and the old Channel 27. He was amazing to watch. BMP

Still trying to figure out Morgan’s haircut. It’s like a crew cut up front with mullet in the back or something 🤷
