Candlepin Bowling - Tom Olszta vs. Joe Days
Спорт
VERY SPECIAL THANKS AGAIN TO DJ Particle here on KZread for providing this match!! ( / djparticle ) ^_^
Air date: 2/14/1987. After Joe Days successfully defeated Hugh Ferguson in a very close match the week before, he then had to face the legend himself, Tom Olszta. Tom's previous appearance on this show was when he had lost to Ray McGuirk in the 1986 True Value championship show, after breaking the all time three game record on Channel 5 that year with his 483 (Which would later be eclipsed by Paul Berger with his 500 in 1992). So with this being the first regular appearance for Tom since his 483 on TV, how would he do against Joe Days? This show started off somewhat slow, but then picked up BIG TIME down the stretch, that led to one of the highest three string totals at that point in the season for one of the bowlers!
I kept in the commercials for this show especially since they feature some old bowling clips as well in this show, though some spots have no volume to avoid any issues with certain music.
Hope you all enjoy, thanks again to DJ Particle, and R.I.P. Don Gillis.

Keep em coming wolfman, love Don Gillis and bowling. 👍👍👍
Don Gillis makes we wanna go back and in time and move to New England to play this. LOVE his voice, passion, and this version of bowling!

When it came to announcers, Nova Scotians like Gillis did it best. Too bad he was never inducted into the "Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame" Builder Category for his contributions to Candlepin.
I tell ya Tom makes it look easy, sensational second string every first ball was 9 pin drops or strikes. I started watching Don Gillis Candlepin Bowling as far back January 1970...on a B&W 9" Zenith, good reception.
I love the old commercials!

I was thinking the same thing. The diarrhea commercial had a better plot than most TV shows today.
I love watching the old commercials cause it lets me pretend that I could afford a new car
Outstanding bowling!!
thank you as allways

Sad that most bowling establishments are gone. The sport never really thought ahead and catered to the young crowd. 😊
6:53 Tom doesn't look happy at Joe getting that spare call.
Jim Rice in the bowling commercial?

Probably through me. I’m a gaming content creator and the returning champion in this video is my father. 😊

But aren't you glad?
Okay, a question from someone who's never tried this. If someone went to one of these alleys for a lark and a pin rolls say 4 feet in front of the pins. Do they walk down the alley to remove it or is there someone at the alley that will do that?

Most bowling centers would frown on a customer walking down their lanes to retrieve anything (ball, pin, a thrown towel, ha ha). Either play around it or ask someone working the desk to accommodate you. Let’s say you played around it. After the frame is completed, roll a ball or two down the lane to remove the obstruction.

Poor Joe Days had no chance on this one. Olzsta was a beast

Yeah, we didn’t attend that taping. 🤣. Going in, he knew he was gonna get destroyed, and he and mom didn’t want my brother and I to miss another day of school.

@@DJParticle haha that's funny but Olzsta is GOAT and Joe wasn't getting any breaks. And usually not gonna beat Olzsta if not getting breaks....lol

Funny thing is… that’s not the only time he would face the GOAT. They would meet on TV again in 1992 on the final season of Doubles.

OK question about the first string. Tom had a deadwood rolling out and the ref picked it up before it stopped rolling. Technically this is interference is it not? I mean if you are gonna be a ref, you should know the rules....

Ralph had some screw ups over the years, especially calling lobs that weren't lobs.

You are correct. The way the deadwood pin was rolling, it would have rolled all the way back to Tom’s feet. Probably had to do it because of television time.

So that’s where they got the look for Harry Potter.
I don't like Olszta but I gave the video a "like" lol.
On the second string, Tom Olszta was just short at getting a "Clean Game" as he got a ten in the sixth frame. If he would have marked the 6th frame, Olszta would have added a new achievement in his legendary Bowling Career, a "Clean Game".
