    "They assassinated the Czar I think in 1880 and by the time they took over I think it was 1910". The Bolshevik Revolution began around November 1917 and the Czar Nicholas II was assassinated in July 1918. It's astonishing that someone so breathtakingly ignorant of basic history has the nerve to pontificate on this topic. Dunning-Kruger writ large.

    @@jamesregiste960Yes, sort of. There was a revolution in 1905, which led to the tsar adding the duma as a liberal democratic reform. The failure of the very weak duma to create the changes the people were demanding was a major cause, along with the additional suffering resulting from Russia’s entry into the World War, of the 1917 revolution.

    The term "concentration camp" actually did arise in the Second Boer War (1899-1902), when the British used them against the White Afrikaaner settlers to keep them from aiding the irregular troops they were fighting. And the British were actually copying a tactic used by the Spanish against their own colonies in Cuba and the Philippines, which were called "reconcentration camps". Of course, tactics like these were used repeatedly by other imperial powers against indigenous peoples before then. It was only when the victims were White that it raised an outcry in the Western world, and stamped the phrase "concentration camp" in our collective psyche.

  • @quirinaled2752

    @quirinaled2752

    Ай бұрын

    Beyond that the British concentration camps in the South African War were not only used to imprison Afrikaans people. The number of black people who were also held due their resistance to British rule is not as well researched and understood, because yes the colonial powers didn't really care about them at all and the records are far from complete. What is known is that they suffered similar or worse levels of death through disease and starvation in the camps. The British simultaneously deployed a scorched earth policy of burning all farms and homesteads to drive people off the land and into the camps. In the case of the Afrikaners, people whose family members were considered to be actively fighting against the British were placed an starvation rations as punishment. The intent of the Empire regarding the native peoples of South Africa was to remove them entirely from any form of land ownership. Their intent toward the Afrikaners was to remove them from control of the Republics they'd formed (through similar means of dispossession of the existing population) and take the possession of the remaining diamond fields and, more importantly, the huge gold fields of the Transvaal. As you say, not the first time concentration camps were used but the Spanish camps were nowhere near the British camps in their brutality and indifference toward the lives of the interned.

When it comes to actual death sentences (burning at the stake or otherwise) they were in the few thousands. Henry Kamen, in a study published by Yale University, asserts that at most 3,000 people were executed. David Plaisted, a professor at the University of North Carolina, states that a few thousand at most. Geoffrey Parker estimates that 5,000 were executed. This is a name that's become so widespread that it's even reached Sam.

    I'm not really a fan of that argument. Isn't all history, historical cherry picking? I think she's making the point that Jews have murdered plenty of people and were just as capable of evil as anyone else. The narrative that we get taught in school is that Jews are perpetually oppressed and are perpetually victims. That's clearly not true. Jews in this context were not oppressed, and were committing crimes against non-Jews. In America, the Secretary of State of the Confederacy was Jewish. There were other Jews in Congress as well at the time, and were supportive of slavery and supported secession and/or the Confederacy. The point isn't to generalize Jews as evil, it's to counter the narrative that Jews were perpetually victims and innocent.

    Klandace’s Bolshevik history is so hilariously bad. I know people here know or at least suspected that, but everything from her talking about the Bolsheviks beginning their takeover in the 1880’s (the Russian Social Democratic Party - the party that split into the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks - was founded in 1898) to the idea that they eventually took full power in 1910 (the revolution in 1905 kept the Tsar in power and led to merely symbolic change. The Tsar was finally overthrown by a women’s uprising in February on the Russian calendar - March on the Gregorian - and the Bolsheviks took power in October/November 1917). The only thing she said that was vaguely true was about the Tsar being assassinated in 1881, but that had nothing to do with the Bolsheviks - who didn’t exist yet (Lenin was 11 at the time), and it led to a hardcore crackdown on the public by the Tsarist regime, which was itself already brutal and authoritarian. In the meantime she neglects the fact that the Tsarist regime, and the White Army that came after, committed so many pogroms against Jews that if the Holocaust never happened, we’d have talked about these pogroms in the same way we now talk about the Holocaust.

That day I went home and told my mom how it made me feel and she was very honest about Zionism and how it will leave a permanent scar on the reputation of Jewish people as a whole. She told me about her time in Tel Aviv (she was a teacher) and it was the first time I ever heard anyone admit to Zionism being bad. She was right, though. Zionism will ruin the Jewish people’s reputation. I don’t fault the people who blame all of us. Obviously, it’s extremely ignorant but I can’t fault them. Zionism is the majority amongst Jewish people and it is, as my mom predicted, leaving a nasty scar on the Jewish people’s name. I just hope more of us speak out against Zionism and pray for peace.

    I think there can be multiple interesting topics worth discussing. One such topic which nobody ever seems to want to even touch, is the roots of why there have been so many problems and negative feelings, if not flat out hatred, between Jews and so many other groups, many times throughout history....unlike any other group that I'm aware of. I'd like to understand this better, but the only side of the story that is ever mentioned is the side of Jewish victimization.

They are not the only underprivileged ethnotype to be persecuted wherever they went.

    As someone who knows some Russian history and is also a Muslim, implying that the Soviet government only went after Christians is ridiculous. Muslims (and Jews, by the way) were all slaughtered en masse. There were periods where the government relaxed its repression of religion, but the point is ALL RELIGIONS in the Soviet Union suffered, not just Christians! This is basic Russian/Soviet history that is easily found both on the internet and in books!

    @@michaelbeavis2632 Call me an old academic elitest fuddy duddy, but I prefer to stick to Books and periodicals written by actual historians. There is no evidence that Nikita khrushchev or any Soviet Leader after him persecuted Jews. Jews played a prominent role in the Communist Party from its inception: it came into being as the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Workers Party (RSDWP) in 1903, becoming the Russian Communist Party (of Bolsheviks; RCP[b]) in 1918, the All-Union Communist Party (of Bolsheviks; AUCP[b]) in 1925, and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1952. Jews remained overrepresented in the party rank and file. Representing just 1.8 percent of the total population in the 1926 census, Jews comprised 5.2 percent of party members in 1922. Jews accounted for 10.9 percent of delegates to the Sixteenth Party Congress in 1930. 10.1 percent of the Central Committee in 1939.

    Stalin would do what he did anyway, regardless of population beliefs. He didn't have any particular hate to any ethnicity or religious group, that did not played any role, period. Curiosity: About 80 to 85% of high political functionaries during the whole Soviet Union era were Jews. Just don't tell Candance Owen. Ethnicity, etc, really did not played ANY role in USSR. They even had gay rights and gay politicians at the beginning, Stalin cancelled it after Lenin's death. Actually all countries of Eastern Block had them at least from 1960' up, while in the west gays were still chemically castrated. That's why I'm loathing Western bragging and degeneracy -

    I think she raises a fair point. Why was one peoples' tragedy raised above all others. I'm in the UK, we learnt about WW2 and nothing else. To my shock to find out later it was more than the jews that were killed. It's been completely weponised as one peoples tragedy, to the point memorials, museums etc (none of these are bad things) but cynically look at how it's being used? What was the purpose if it wasn't to repeat? It was to justify and have a perpetual victimhood above other nations and what has happened to them. Her point is, well "that's your tragedy, what about ours!". I agree, a bit rich coming from her as she denies the black collective history of USA, but she identifies more Christian than "black". It's all or none. All is headache, and available for everyone on the net, up to you how you align and identify. When a specific modern historical event is told in great detail in the education system above others with a whole system, have to ask "is this propaganda?" Especially when we know how israelis are told their "history"

    As a Jewish person, it’s really frustrating and terrifying that nowadays I can’t even talk about antisemitism without some ant might be like but Israel even when the situation I’m talking about, had nothing to do with what’s happening between Israel and Palestine. I’m not even exaggerating I’ve actually had to explain to people, that saying that saying oh Jews are evil or shouting, “gas the Jews” and “F the Jews” or saying “Hitler was right” is not criticism of Israel. You can criticize Israel all you want. But you cannot blame all Jewish people for the actions of Benjamin Netanyahu and the IDF. Just like how I would never blame all Russians for the actions of Vladimir Putin. Also, I want to point out that I have a sister-in-law who is from Israel and she’s pro Palestine. which is why I hate it when people act as though all Israeli are genocide almanacs.. Lastly, I want to say that you can hate Benjamin yet Tonya hell the IDF and Hamas.
