    Canada was in WWI from 1914. We were in the British Empire then so we had no choice but we showed our mettle, especially at Vimy Ridge. (I've visited the Canadian monument there and, believe me, it's very moving. When you're standing there, you're standing on Canadian soil, given by France to Canada.) In WWII, we were in it from the get-go. The Royal Canadian Navy played a vital role in keeping Britain supplied with food -- rationing in Canada helped make that possible. (It was good for our economy: government spending on the war effort helped lift Canada out of the Great Depression.) And we played a vital role in helping the Allied nations' invasion of France in 1944. The Canadian forces got so far inland , farther than either the British or the Americans, that our troops had to be pulled back lest they be cut off. One thing that always amuses me: Canada, like Britain, had a number of kilted regiments (kilts are supposed to be worn with no underpants, BTW). Both the Scots and the Canadian "kilties," lack of drawers notwithstanding, punched above their weight in both conflicts. We have a lot to be proud of.

Turkey’s name is not coming from 🦃 , it comes from “Turks” and basically means “Turks’ land” We don’t call it “Turkey” but “Türkiye” . “Turkey” is just how English speakers call it. Non-English speakers in Turkey don’t even know it is called like 🦃 But it is funny and sometimes i use 🦃 emoji in internet when i write where i am coming from to foreigners. 😂😂

    All joking aside, our forces were among the best and most feared until the '60s when peacekeeping became the government's focus. I have seen interviews with German veterans who said, "We dreaded going against the Canadians." The Germans actually coined the term "storm troopers" to describe the Canadians in WWI, because we attacked, no matter the weather. Laugh at the jokes, but never think our troops are anything less than the best.

  • @ireallyreallyhategoogle

    Nobody doubts the fact that Canadians are brave and good soldiers. Most of the jokes in this video are about perceived lack of equipment and military spending.

  • @lelandlewis7207

    @lelandlewis7207

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@SKa-tt9nm , unfortunately, the lack of funding and equipment isn't "perceived", it is fact. But, our troops are well trained and don't depend on technology for fighting. There is a large area in western Canada where NATO troops, including the US, come to train with the Canadians every year. I understand Jeremy is joking, which is why I said "All joking aside". I love his humour and his style, just that sometimes when listening to the jokes people don't realize the part Canada played in the Great Wars and smaller conflicts up until the '70s. Actually, it was both our fighting ability and fair treatment of enemies and citizens caught in the crossfire which gave other countries the respect for our troops that allowed us to become peacekeepers.

    To add to that, not only did we have our own substantial bomber and fighter group but by 1944 25% of those in RAF service were Canadians. Canadian could and did kick balls in their day (cite the NY frontier during the revolting American revolution and all the other struggles down to WWI), but we've been dis-armed since Dieffenbaker (or however you spell that Dutch name) and have completely forgotten a history they would have made us a nation rather than the abortion it had become. Personally, I am deeply ashamed to be a Canadian today. My father's generation were the last real Canadians. I was a hippie and lost it. My kids don't know what there are.

    Oldie clip but: Other countries dont realize when we got involved in battle, we were never forced. There was no draft for us. Every single soldier from Canada volunteered. That says alot. Its not that we don't "like" to fight..its that we don't like to get into fights that have nothing to do with us. We are more concerned about helping those in trouble then killing them. Unlike the US. Which is why all countries like Canada and dont want ro blow us up. Except the occasional US nut. Read historical documents from other soldiers. They all say how insanely strong/protective/ and headstrong Canadian soldiers are.

Oh and stores, lots and lots and lots of stores. But come to Edmonton for the festivals, we do festivals even better than we do shopping!

    The jokes about the Canadian army are very funny. It's even funnier when you know Canadian fighter pilots fly U.$. planes during wars because they are better. You see, we actually train our soldiers to fight, and we expect them to survive wars. Unlike the U.$. military that trains their soldiers to obey without thinking and expect them to die for their country. That's why when they come back from war the U.$. government just dumps them in the streets and forget they ever existed.

    @@IDontGotThis It's the simple truth. The U.$. military protects U.$. corporate interests. All the talk of democracy and freedom is just propaganda.
