Canada's Global TV - Sign-off from 1979!

Taped in 1979, here is a really nice sign-off from Canada's Global TV Network.

Look! All those people walking around on a nice spring day, and somehow life went on without smartphones in their hands or ear buds in their ear.

because neither really existed back then, so your point really makes no sense.

Stevie You miss my point entirely! These days many people just withdraw inside their own worlds, and have their heads down engrossed in their smartphone or listening to music or podcasts everywhere they go instead of interacting with the world and people around them. I was just pointing out the difference between then and now. I don’t understand how some people HAVE to answer their phones no matter where they are or what they are doing.

Wow, what a fantastic blast from the past. The 'Come to the Movies' marquee, the Global sign-off song and being visually reminded of where all the transmitters were located (if you didn't have cable) I find reassuring and comforting in 2021. It's interesting how in 1979 Global was using the slogan, "...join us tomorrow and we will bring you our global point of view". Perhaps that was indicative of the mentality where the Global network was headed. After all Dirty Pierre Terdhole Sr. was the PM at the time.
