He reminds me of my Cat. Hes a mix breed of Domestic Longhair and Norwegian Forest Cat, he's VERY fluffy right now since the temperatures have been dropping outside. I try to keep him as an indoor only cat but he loves being outside and runs out everytime I open the door, and then comes in a bit later. As a result, he's starting to develope a Winter coat, as if he wasn't fluffy enough already.

Right, it's interesting how their efficient hunting skills benefit themselves in one way and also leads to their downfall in another. I suppose this basic sense of tradeoff can be applicable to other species and how immediate gratification to resources stunts longevity(hello humanity). I sometimes wonder if certain animals like the lynx could build a sense of genetic memory after experiencing the cycle of the fluctuating rabbit populations thoroughly enough over time as their lifespans are long enough to experience the cycle about twice 10-20 years but the idea of genetic memories is still yet to be thoroughly proven, sorry I ramble quite a bit lol

No matter how many times I see them… every time I am amazed by those paws that look like the belong to a lion on these guys, it makes me wonder if they weren’t the original inspiration for snow shoes.

Here in Maine we have both Lynx and Bobcats. Though the Lynx are rare I have encountered them in the woods before. As for Bobcats, I grew up in a household where the local wardens would bring us orphaned animals and we would raise them. 95% of those we raised returned to the wild after they reached maturity and most we never saw again (though a few would come back from time to time). The other 5% did not return to the wild and remained on the farm and became part of the family. This mostly consisted of racoons, but we also had a skunk and 2 bobcats that stuck around. The racoons were easy to feed, as for the bobcats, we generally fed them raw chicken and rabbit and they were just as affectionate as a domestic cat...just a lot more territorial. They got along well enough with the animals that were already on the farm when they arrived....but they were terrifying to any stray that wandered onto the property. As for people, they didn't care for strangers and although they never tried to attack anybody...they would stalk them while keeping their distance.

Hi Danielle, just a heads up it is common to hear of sightings of Lynx in Washington state along the border with Canada during the winter. Many of our migratory birds have figured out Washington state is as far south as they want to go and that appears to be just fine as far as the Lynx is concerned. 😄. Some alpine snowshoe adventurers in winter have discovered they were not the only ones enjoying the views of the birds at the lake. 😄

I will never tire of seeing how weirdly cats interact when they're fighting. The way they just kinda stiffen up and then seem unable to decide if they want to smack each other or not is so goofy. The screaming made it even better xD

Before I even watch the video, I've seen a video with two lynx going at it yelling at each other. Absolutely had me hysterically laughing. Sounded like two women going at it over a sale rack in a store. I had to laugh because it was so unlike what I was expecting to come out of a couple cats.

Their body geometry is what really find appealing you said it perfectly, they are like cartoonish cute wild cats... something I did not notice very well until now is their short tail which your explanation makes lot of sense, heat preservation.... very educational material, their body geometry comes to their habitad and feeding strategy.... thank you.

I live in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. I have seen bear, cougar, coyote, well, lots of animals but never the lynx or bobcat. We had pictures of a bobcat only two blocks away from my place here in Rocky Mountain House. Damn but they are beautiful, and I am such a cat person. If I ever die in the mountains, mauled by a cougar, you can bet your last dollar my last words were, "pss pss pss here kitty kitty." lol

I see these guys fairly often out in the bush. There is a one particular female lynx I see often with her kittens teaching them to hunt. I always stop, shut my truck off and radio other truckers to let them know where they are at so they can slow down for them. Always a treat to see them out hunting.

The only time I ever saw one in person it was captive, in a tiny 6x4 cage, at some sketch "zoo" my father brought me to when I was young that was just a normal farm with the garage converted into reptiles and fish area, and a bunch of tiny cages outside with wild cats and lemurs and other things that shouldn't have been living outside in Northern Ontario at all, let alone in those conditions. I was drawn to the lynx and spent almost the whole time watching him and feeling terrible for it. That place luckily no longer exists, but there are more like it in Ontario...
