Thank you Jim, that would be great to capture. I've been working on it.
Thanks for these videos! Canada lynx are not easy to find. Mostly nocturnal cats. They don't obviously meow like house cats that's for sure! Hope I spot a lynx someday!
Hey MW, Thanks so much for these incredible crystal clear videos. Just wondering if you cover your scent on your setups and what you use if anything. I'm sending your channel to all my flatlander buddies. Keep up the amazing work, it's so appreciated.

PJRE - Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoy them! Good question, I don't cover my scent at all and I almost always have my dog Stryder with me. I tend to not check my cams very often though, let's things settle.
I've heard tell of mountain lion. Umaine did a survey on my brother's property (Toddy Pond Swanville, ME.) regarding these massive cats. Your videos have inspired me to set some trail cams up over that way to see what we can catch.

Well if that doesn't sound like a witch with a soar stomach ! ... Great footage and audio. It's obvious that they were designed as a rabbit killing predator.

Hello, I wanna let you know. I enjoy your videos immensely. Great photography. You’re asking for suggestions, how about deer beds? If we need to see them go in and out of the deer bed and what they do. Also like to see more bear and moose. Thank you for all you do.

Susan, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment, and just so you know the fact that these videos bring you so much joy keeps me getting out there doing this! As far as deer beds, I've tried doing that in the past, as most of the beds are on knolls, the problem is that the deer will keep triggering the camera, draining the batteries. Trust me, you're not missing much, quite boring to be honest. As far as more bear and moose, you got it! Stay tuned, I'll be setting up my bear cam again very soon.

When I was a kid, as a treat my father would make me a "Banana Fluff A Nutter". He claimed he had invented it. Let's see some videos on how you plan set up your cameras and why... Also how you go about tracking and deciding where you place your cameras. Obviously, you know me I can't get enough of the big cats... It would be great to set up multiple cameras at the rock ledge to increase the chance of capturing the bobcats hunting nearby prey... I might one day even try catching owls a bit more... Just to get some unique wildlife that is not always seen on these cameras.

Jesse, I bet that sandwich was great, sounds yummy! Great suggestions, I am definitely going to do a full video or two about camera set up an placement very soon. I am going to set up another camera at the ledge, I've noticed the one camera just isn't capturing the entire story. I would love to see you catching owls, that would be cool. Do you have Marten up your way? If so I would love to see them.
@Geckocan
Жыл бұрын
@Maine Woodsbooger I will definitely be trying some different locations and perhaps locating owl perches... Just look for the white wash on the ground below. A different view at that ledge will be amazing as you see the bobcats stalking prey out of frame. I just don't know if you end up pointing the camera in the opposite direction... then you might be pointing it south and getting too many false triggers from the moving sun and changes in light etc. I hope my spring will bring out lots of different wildlife.... No Pine Marten around our place. I have a feeling they have been outcompeted by the fisher, and there is a severe lack of old growth. Much of the land on our property and surroundings is all secondary growth. It was all cleared in the 60s - 80s. There are only some large oaks and white pines in locations where the big machinery could not get to... maybe I will locate some in the future when I plan to place a camera further north of our place on public land.
My entire family loves your videos. You do an awesome job and the footage is amazing. My young girls always ask great questions after. Have you considered doing videos on the process up to placing the camera. Why do you pick a specific spot? What kind of animals do you think you’ll capture in the area? Also, my daughter says more foxes. 😂
@MaineWoodsbooger
Жыл бұрын
That's great Samantha! I'm planning on doing some videos this year about how I set up my cameras, pick locations, and the animals I'm targeting. More foxes, well I would like to get more them as well, for some reason I don't capture many of them, fingers crossed. I do have a cam in a location that has potential. Stay tuned!
Terrific videos -- you've mastered lynx videos and are right in the core area of that male and female's home range. Keep at it and you'll eventually get more surprises -- maybe complete courtship and mating. You've also nailed their scent-marking sites, and I wouldn't mind seeing more closeups of that at different angles in both sexes. Claw sharpening behavior is another activity to target during the mild months. And the prize would be a natal den with playful kittens and parental care. That rock recess might be worth monitoring this spring. Good luck and keep at it.

I've been working on mountain lions in Maine for a couple of years - but I keep my footage secret. I've got decent bobcat and lynx photo's but no definite Eastern Cougar.

@@MaineWoodsbooger If I do get the picture I'd rather no-one be able to guess where the pictures came from. I may post a compilation at some point but for now I am improving my camera traps. I have seen tracks a couple of times a few years ago - but the things are elusive if they exist.

Great videos, the lynx is a beautiful animal. What are your views about mountain lions in Maine? One was hit by a car several years ago in CT although the CT authorities still claim there is no native population in the state. Thanks again.

Thanks! I lived out west for many years, and am very familiar with them. I've never seen or captured footage of them in Maine, and any videos, or pics shared are never clear. So my opinion is that they aren't established in Maine.
