Canada Day Celebrations 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 ! RCAF Aircraft in Ottawa (YOW / CYOW)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Happy Canada's Day 🇨🇦 ! To celebrate Canada's birthday; the Canadian Armed Forces does flyby's over our nation's capital; specifically over parliament!
This year the CF-18 Demo Jet and CT-114 Tutors (Snowbirds) are participating in this event. Although I unfortunately couldnt make it to Parliament to see the aircraft fly; I was able to catch them arriving into Ottawa 2 days earlier from Bagotville.
The C130 did a quick stop as well transporting some equipment for the teams; an interesting surprise as they usually use their own busses.
I do hope you enjoy; and I am wishing everyone a safe and healthy Canada's day!

Why do we need fighter jets? We need transport aircraft, communications equipment and small arms...the backbone of any armed forces. Besides, carbon fiber doesn't rust.

@@hugostiglitz2388 "Why do we need fighter jets?" because our enemies have them. If somebody we don't want comes into our airspace, we should probably have something to meet them. And when I said "rusting away", I was not referring to literal rust, just general degradation of the CF-18 airframes over time. I don't want Canada to be a major military force, it's not our way, but we should be capable of defending ourselves.

@@paulrobbins4879 How many jets can we buy...25? and how much do they cost? Money we don't have. And how long would we last going up against a Nation with say 20 times our capability? One cheap but effective surface to air missile and it's no more airplane. Costly jets are for show and nothing more. We need frigates and helicopters more then jets.

@@hugostiglitz2388 I admit we need some things more, perhaps my reply was a bit knee-jerk. You're right, we don't have money right now, and yes there are things we need more. However, I don't think it's fair or reasonable to just throw out the baby with the bath water and say "Fighter jets are useless".

Was that F-18 one of the 40 year old Canadian jets, or one of the clapped-out second-hand Aussie one? About 40 years passed between the RCAF flying Spitfires and the RCAF flying F-18s. We've had the F-18 for over 40 years now. Yes they were upgraded several times. They are at the end of their rope. It was an absolutely awesome aircraft that served us well, truly a good buy. Time to say goodbye.

@@hugostiglitz2388 we’re already building new coastal patrol vessels the Harry dewolf class though I’m not really a fan of those, we do need new helicopters, submarines, small arms, communications equipment, night vision, and a whole bunch of other things I’ll agree there. However in my opinion it’s better to fix the bigger things first like Ships, Submarines, planes, and helicopters and then fix the smaller stuff like small arms and communication equipment were building new frigates and AOPVs now so that leaves submarines planes and helicopters of those left I think new aircraft are the most pressing and important you need a modern airforce as without air superiority you can’t do much.

@@EthanPureOak not just today. Mulroney, Chretian, and Harper all had opportunity to plan for replacements of a plane ordered under PET before JT took over. That's over 30 years of mismanaged procurement. The first 2 did nothing at all and Harper rigged the bid for the F-35 to win so it got thrown out in court and JT had to start from scratch... But no results in any case. (Campbell and Martin weren't around long enough to do anything as PM)
