Can you wood turn brass, copper and aluminium?
In this woodturning video, I will attempt to wood turn different metals such as brass, copper and aluminium using some exotic hard woods like wenge, purple heart, spalted beech, blackwood. This was an experimental project to see how you can accommodate different materials into one project. The end result turned out very unique and certainly one of kind project hope you think so too. 😊

Is this a gavel? The head doesn’t look like it could be used as a mallet
Ok that was beautiful!
Beautiful work - amazing how it turned out - mesmerizing to watch! 👍👀
Cool idea! Thanks for sharing! Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
Very nice. Will be the start of many conversations I’m sure.

I always enjoy seeing your work. This was a surprise. I honestly thought it would be a fail. It wasn’t!
I’ve seldom seen this done in the past. I would imagine it would be a little harder on your turning tools as well. It’s a very beautiful design and clever use of the turning for a handle. Amazing as usual David.

Thank you so much 😀 Yes it does dull the chisel faster but used carbide tools what a hard wearing and easy to change the tip
I love wood and metal hybrid builds and this is right up there with the best I've seen! Truly inspirational! Thanks 🙌

@Matt Jordan works with a lot of metals in his turning, I love watching what he makes. I enjoyed this too, very lovely arrangement of colors. :)

That's excellent. Well done. I've actually found that aluminium and brass cuts better with a HSS bowl gouge, rather than a carbide cutter. I haven't tried copper yet, but plan to do so, in the future 😊👍
That's amazing, David! The colors look so great together and combined with the different metals, just gorgeous! Beautiful work, as always!

Beautiful mallet handle David.
The colors are beautiful and the fusion of the materials worked well together. If I was collecting hand held tools, this would be one . Well done with your creativity 👏 👍

I noticed that this hammer did not appear in your online shop or gallery. I was wondering what something like it would typically sell for?

Yes this is not for sale. Very hard to put price tag on one of a kind items depnds if you can find the right customer
I was so worried for your tools during that 😂 but omg surprise ending ! Beautiful idea with the metals I love it you should do more of this !

Hi, David. It reminds me of the leather mallet. Colorful wood combination and with the metals inbetween it came out really beatiful. But the proportions aren't right. The head us too small for this diameter, that disturbs the optics.

Thank you :) Agree on the proportions sadly I rush to get it off the lathe too soon and the handle is little too thick. Learning everyday…
The answer is no. The only way you can turn wood is using wood.
