Can you wood turn brass, copper and aluminium?

In this woodturning video, I will attempt to wood turn different metals such as brass, copper and aluminium using some exotic hard woods like wenge, purple heart, spalted beech, blackwood. This was an experimental project to see how you can accommodate different materials into one project. The end result turned out very unique and certainly one of kind project hope you think so too. 😊

    Is this a gavel? The head doesn’t look like it could be used as a mallet

    I’ve seldom seen this done in the past. I would imagine it would be a little harder on your turning tools as well. It’s a very beautiful design and clever use of the turning for a handle. Amazing as usual David.

    Thank you so much 😀 Yes it does dull the chisel faster but used carbide tools what a hard wearing and easy to change the tip

    That's excellent. Well done. I've actually found that aluminium and brass cuts better with a HSS bowl gouge, rather than a carbide cutter. I haven't tried copper yet, but plan to do so, in the future 😊👍

    Hi, David. It reminds me of the leather mallet. Colorful wood combination and with the metals inbetween it came out really beatiful. But the proportions aren't right. The head us too small for this diameter, that disturbs the optics.

  • @DavidsWoodturning

    @DavidsWoodturning

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thank you :) Agree on the proportions sadly I rush to get it off the lathe too soon and the handle is little too thick. Learning everyday…

    The answer is no. The only way you can turn wood is using wood.
