Can You Use Nail Varnish to Color Resin?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video answers the question as to whether you can use nail varnish to color resin? I was extremely surprised at the results and it's well worth checking out what happens to the resin when you use nail varnish in it.

I primarily work with UV resin but I'm a huge fan of painting the polish directly onto a cured piece, letting it set, and then putting a layer of resin above it. I've also used gel polish, where you put it under the UV lamp to set. I especially do this with tiger-eye magnetic polish. Makes a great galaxy effect!

Before I was introduced to resin, I painted 4 photo frames with nail polish exclusively. And I don't mean just a frame/border! These were full scale paintings made with nail polish. Pity I can't attach a photo here, but I assure you it was fun! A bit like resin pour but with less control (and the "paint" came in tiny amounts, so my paintings were small, about 20x20 cm). The good thing was that some photo frames and random nail polishes are quite cheap, so each painting only cost me under 5 GBP/USD.

Lol 😆 I have headphones on and live in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA 🇺🇸 where it is hot and humid and we get downpours out of nowhere. Actually, we are expecting rain tonight so I thought oh my gosh I didn't think it was going to rain THAT MUCH, and so I got up to take a look out of the window expecting a storm but what I got was a peek at a VERY DRY CAR 🤣 Anywho, can I just say how much I truly appreciate the time and effort, you put into experimenting - which really benefits us, not to mention the cost of materials that you have to absorb with doing these experiments. I hope to buy you not only one cup of coffee in the near future, but the entire pot. ❤

I've tried the nail polish and had two different results ; one of them I used a small amount of nail polish and they came out beautifully. The other one I used was a cheaper nail polish and I think I used too much because it never set. God what a mess. I'm glad you had good results. I 'm definitely going to try it again and be really careful about how much polish I use.

I'm new to resin and I am finding your videos very helpful... I wouldn't say that mold with the crinkles in it is ruined. I would take a paint pen or some inks and paint on and wipe off leaving color in the cracks I think that would look neat. then dome the clear over it. or attach an old looking picture or gems or... then dome over it. I feel like I need some bangle molds now. and some caftan dresses so I can be like Mrs. Roper. LOL That's from an old American TV show called three's company.

Honestly, you picked great colors together! Why? Because you can see TONES of colors if not the colors themselves. Those who are colorblind learn to discern colors based on tone, which is something that those of us who aren't struggle with sometimes. You can see subtle differences where we cannot. In many ways, this is an advantage. If you get the tones right, the color doesn't matter. All colors go together in nature. Matter of fact, my ex mother in law painted before she went completely blind (retinitis pigmentosa). She was able, in her later years, to tell what color of paint was what (at least the base color) by weight. Amazing stuff.
