Can You Still Grow Your Hair With A Receding Hairline?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Do you have a receding hairline but want long hair?
A common argument I hear men make is that they don't think their long hair will look good because they have a receding or mature hairline.
I hope this video shows you that receding hairlines and long hair can look amazing.

I was curious if you have a mature hairline or otherwise if it’s ok to ask. I’m 42 with really long blond hair and I’m still trying to assess my hairline 😂 I never paid attention to my edges (?!) until recently. My hairline is full on top and in front and I often had my hair hiding my temples and I wonder if I used to tie my hair too tight for years, perhaps, but never so it felt stiff or hurt, so it might have been this way for a long time and I never noticed. Hopefully my failure to notice is a good sign 🪧 my old pics of myself are not usually side views though 🤷

In my early twenties my corners were thinning very quickly, I thought I was balding. I'm 26 now and since roughly 3, 4 years the thinning has come more or less to a halt. My hairline used to be square, now it's a little widow's peaky. At the age of 26 I'd say my hairline has matured, but it is noticable because the center of my hairline hasn't moved a single mm and I have a very masculine skull and sloped forehead, so the corners are definitely visible. Yet I'm still growing out my hair, also b/c the hair I _do_ have is very thick and healthy. It's just that I wouldn't want to go for a man bun, my hairline isn't that bad but it would put emphasis on those two corners of hair each of roughly 2-3 cms that are not there anymore.

I’m pretty sure I have traction alopecia. I’ve been putting my hair up nearly everyday in a man bun for about a year, and I’ve noticed some thinning on my from scalp. There’s no receding hairline but I do notice the hair thinning. I’m gonna try to keep my hair down most days to give my scalp a break from having my hair up constantly. You literally gave me the hope to not cut off all my hair!! 2.5 years of hard work and I will keep having long hair !! I’ll report back on my journey.

Maybe not as much of an unpopular opinion as I initially expected, but I love my hairline at least enough to not feel insecure about it, and I have long hair. My hair is receded/mature (Not sure yet) and quite fine to the point that you get a pretty distinct v shape. But since my hair's grown to the end of my shoulderblades I like to comb it back behind my ears with usually a beard. That way it looks more tough and dignified to me. I don't need to hide what I think looks good on me, haha.

The corner of my hair line is starting to thin and recede. My hairs shoulder length. But my corner is starting to slightly recede. And it makes me want to cry because I’m only 28. It’s not super bad and my wife and everyone says they can’t see it or notice it. BUT I can see it snd notice it. It’s upsetting. The middle of the hairline is still strong it’s almost like I’m forming a half widows peak lol. I think what I’ve done or have is traction alopecia from pulling it up. Before growing out the last 2 years I had several different hairstyle and in 2014-2016 I did the undercut Top knot. And pulled it up a lot and then 2016-2019 I had like the swooped over hard part cut and used a lot of product and heat to style my hair. So I think I’ve just damaged it snd I’m not balding or receding but it still kindve a bummer. I’m working on fixing it with some oils and vitamins and just over all better care of it pulling it up and back all the time. Usually only pull it up if I’m at work. Other than that just leave it down.

Makes styling extremely annoying with basically having shorter/awkward-phase hair on top with really long on sides. Like I can headbang & the hairs on top barely move where the sides fly around. First I was blonde, then my hair had every natural color in it,kaleidoscopic in a way ,then it went brown and i still had blonde temples yet with strawberry blonde, black, red and varying shades of brown flecks. Then the temple hairs fell out. My hair used to be so thick that it was difficult to brush. One day I shaved it bald after thick shoulder length hair. Then the follicles thinned and now i am a norwood 3. If I'm lucky it will relatvely stay the same. Currently going grey as well.

At 17 I had a mean widows peak due to traction and maturing of the hairline. I used to tie my long hair really tight as it matured and it turned into a strong widows peak. I'm 26 and self conscious but I still got my long hair and I stay tie it back. It looks a lot like Jorge masvidals just a bit less pronounced. Don't worry you'll be okay, just don't tie your hair back too tight

@@djswirley just tie it a bit looser and make sure to leave your hair down when your home that way you don't have constant traction. Volume shampoo also helps if you feel like you have thin hair. My hair looks almost exactly like the guy in the video just a bit thinner and the volume shampoo really helps. If your black try not to braid your hair to much as that gives very bad traction and don't retwist too often.

I just wouldn't know where to begin. The style I'd end up with is the only thing stopping me from growing it out.

Case Study on my Traction Alopecia: I've always had medium long hair, but over the last 2.5 years I grew it till my hips to donate part of it. I started losing lot of hair during this time, before which my hairline was really healthy. Now I can see a good region of my scalp through my hairline. I'm a motorcyclist, and the helmet sometimes tugs on my hairline ever so slightly (it ads up during long trips), I wear headphones often too. I also have a TON of hair volume and weight and though I wear a loose ponytail it possibly puts pressure on my hairline, 'especially when I'm sleeping (gets tugged a lot)!! or when shampooing / brushing (knots), there's a lot of inevitable tugging, hair fall, and breakage going on'. No men in my family have gone bald even towards 70. My dad still has a very healthy hairline. I only just learned about Traction Alopecia 4:24 and have finally identified the source of the balding. I fear at this point however it's permanent because I didn't address it soon enough. I'm going to donate my hair and dropped it back to a medium soon and in doing so alleviate the weight. Hopefully this gives insight to some of you.
