Some people are confused because it doesn't specify you only being able to ask 1 question TOTAL. The wording makes some people think they can ask each 1 question. You could also ask, "If I asked you which way is home, which way would you point?" The truth teller will tell you the truth and the liar will lie about the fact that he would lie to your hypothetical question, so he also states he would tell you the way which is the truth. Thus either way, you hear the truth from either one.

you can also ask "if this junction has 3 paths, which direction will lead me home?" then the truth teller will stay silent and the liar will point at the wrong path hence the remaining path is the correct path

Thanks! I will :)
I also found a diffrent way of solving this riddle. I ask the first guy "Will this way lead me to my home?" If he's lying and it does he will say "No". If he's lying and it doesn't than he will say "Yes". If he's telling the truth and it does he will say "Yes". If he's telling the truth and it doesn't he will say "No". Than I ask the other guy "Is that guy a woman?" or "Are you a woman?" If he says "Yes" that this guy is lying and the other guy says the truth. If he says "No" that this guy is saying the truth and the other one is lying. This way you will always know who is lying and who is not. So if the first one is lying than you do the opposite what he says. If he said "no" than you go there, and if he said "yes" you go to the other one. And if the first one is saying the truth than you just go with the path he told you. :)

OWWWWWW... You can only ask one question to one of them, not one question to both of them... Welp, I'm dumb ;_;
The information that two men knew each other..and also knew about their lie and not lie behavior is hard to digest.
@ Mr Riddle, it would be nice to explain and break down why this strategy works (actually this applies to most of your riddles)
That was a Good Video. MORE !
it would work when you would ask: do you know the way? because both know the way but the lier will say no also you would know it too

You could also say "What would you say, if i asked you which path would take me home?" The liar would lie about what they would say, giving the right way home. The other one would say the right path if you just asked which way, so he would give the right way home. 🙂

The point of the riddle, which doesn't seem to be explained in the video, is you don't know which guy is the truth teller and which is the liar. If you did, there is no riddle. You would just ask the truth teller which way to go.
As far as I can remember, this was a remake or different version of a riddle given by an American mathematician (I forgot the name). The original concept was a gentleman was trapped in a room. Had 2 gates to get out, 2 guards- one telling lie another truth. Only one exit door will save him..................The answer was given by an Afro-American and he won the prize.
I heard of this before, the question is " if i were to ask both of you which way is the right way, what will you two answer?". If everything goes as planned, then they will give you the correct answer.
@wingjaigaming8240

edit: just finish watching the video, turns out my answer is a little off. But it works with the same principle: In my version, if i asked the "always tell truth guy", he will tell me the right answer. And if i asked the "always tell false guy", he will first lie about the correct answer, but here is the catch, he will lie that he would tell you the wrong answer. so minus and minus will equal to positive, and he will give you the correct answer. And in the video's version, it is minus and positive will equal to minus, positive and minus will equal to minus, so it also works and their answer is always the wrong one. By the way im good at math but not so good at English (im a Asian) if u took the time to read this and understand what am i saying, I seriously love you and pls help me explain it more clearly to others, thanks. =D

@@wingjaigaming8240 how about drop math language at the door because it doesn't apply and use affirmative ("positive") and negations ("minus") instead lol

I’d ask 1 of the 2 following questions. 1. “If I were to ask the other guy which road is the correct road, what would he say?” 2. “If I were to ask the other guy which road is the wrong road, what would he say?” If I asked them what the other guy would say is correct, they’d point me to the wrong road. If I asked them what the other guy would say is wrong, they’d point me to the correct road.
These videos are amazing. Please jsut try to specify more, sometimes. For example, in this video u should make it explicit that the boy doesn't know which man is the liar.
There is a better solution : If they both know the right way I can ask one of the two men "Do you know the right way ?" If the man say no, I know he lies and I can ask the other man the way. Same reasoning for the other case

Ask "Are you Voldemort"
@fairytaleoverworlds7795

So here's an interesting conundrum... If the truth-teller is Voldemort the two answers will be "Yes" and "yes." If the liar is Voldemort the two answers will be "No" and "no. If neither are Voldemort the two answers will be "Yes" and no." Thus, if the real Voldemort is a liar, then what if he's just pretending to be Voldemort all along, but he's really is just some guy? Or what if the real Voldemort is unknown because he's good at always hiding his identity? I feel duped by Harry Potter at this point, I don't know who to trust. The Author? Voldemort? Hermoine? she always has the right answer.
Another solution: If I asked you if the left road is the right one would you answer "yes"? If it's the right one both will answer "yes", if it's the wrong one both will answer "no". It's because there is question inside a question which means that lier will lie twice. Double negative is positive so he will answer the same way as the other guy.
Id ask both "Which way is not the way back home?"
I knew the answer because of the movie labyrinth....thanks 1980s
I find the easier way to solve riddles like this is to ask one an obvious question about something like the color of their shirt and if they tell the truth ask the other guy which path to not go down, if he lies, ask the other guy which path to go down
This is a matter of reverse psychology.
Lol I already knew the answer :D
I know 2 answers to this tricky riddle. 1. I’d ask one of the guys “If I were to ask the other guy which road is the correct road, what would he say?” Then I’d choose the opposite of the answer given. The Liar would lie and tell me that the Honest guy would choose the wrong road. The Honest guy would tell me that the other guy (the liar) would choose the wrong road because that’s the truth. 2. I’d ask one of the guys “If I were to ask the other guy which road is the wrong road, what would he say?” Then I’d choose the road they pointed to. The Liar would lie and say that the honest guy would choose the correct road. The Honest guy would say that the other guy (the liar) would choose the correct road because that’s the truth.
My solution was to ask one of the men what one plus one equals. Then, you ask the other man what route to take. If the first answer is correct, take the opposite route the other man suggests. If the first answer is false, take the route the second man suggests.
My guess: "If I asked the other guy which one was the way to my home, what would he say?" After that, you pick the other road. Let's say the left road is the correct one. If you are talking to the lying guard, he knows the truthful one would say the left one was correct, so he lies and says the right one is the way home. You pick the other road and safely make it home. If you are talking to the truthful guard, he knows the lying one would say the right one is correct, so he says the right one. You pick the other road and make it home. EDIT: Got it! Yes!
Nice videos! Keep it up!

Lol I just had to remember this same question drawn out in a Mickey Mouse cartoon. Back then I felt like Goofy who was completely lost at the solution. But, as we Dutch Donald Duck-comicfanatics try to tell the haters, it's actually unconsciously quite a good teachingmethod in all kinds of stuff. From vocabulary to the above riddle to animals, universe etc. You just barely notice as it is a comic. But all the while your longtermmemomery puts it away for later use. Or "use" like now. Like: did you know that you should never feed ducks old bread? We love to do so when in fact it is bad for their health and digestive system. Google for "what and when to feed ducks" instead of just getting to old breadbag out because the little one wants to. Source? Yep, Donald Duck. MY rambling is fully my responsibility. I guess I'm just happy that my cat has turned 19 today and he's in perfect health after his yearly checkup 😚😊😺🎈
For the goblin question, Ask first "Is michael jackson your aunt?' if yes hes lieing, If no hes telling the truth.
This is very similar to the King offering the crown to one of his twin sons with the slowest horse. How do they race to see whom has the slower horse?
Basically, there are two roads here. We can identify them by the labels like "left road" and "right road" (in any way, they must differ by some quality or position). We know that one of these two roads leads home, and another one leads to our death or smth (does not lead home); of course, we want to go home, but do not know initially the destination places of any of 2 roads. We have met two people who certainly know the precious road information that we wonder; besides that, we know that one old man always tells truth, and another one always tells lies, but we don't know whom we are encountering. And we can only ask 1 question. So I think it's quite easy. We did not even need two men, only one is required. [But if there are two, it is still OK.] We ask our addressee: "If I asked you whether the LEFT road leads to my home, would you answer me 'Yes!'?''. And then we see the answer. A positive answer ('yes') means that we should take the left road, and a negative one ('no') means the right road is what we need. Simple.
Nice Riddle ! Its hard to master but of you get it is very simple !

*if
On the 1st riddle I would ask them if there is grass on the other path
you can also ask either of them this question : "if I asked you whether the way to the right is the right way to lead me home, would you reply 'yes' "? If our hypothetical question within our actual question is true, both of them will answer 'yes'. If it is false however ( the right way to our home is left) any of them would have answered 'no'. You can test it yourself, there's 4 possible outcomes ^_^
I would just put "If you are old, what is the way to go?" If the liar is the one i ask, then he would not answer because he lies and says he is young. If I ask both of them at once, then the one who answers is the non-liar and I would follow his answer.
I would ask a question: "If I Ask a question: 'Which of the two ways doesn't lead to my home?', which way will the other one show me?". The one, who tells the truth will show the correct way, because the other one would lie and show me the bad one. At the same time the one who always lies will also show me the correct one, because he knows that the other one who tells the truth will not show me the bad one, but he must lie about that and show me the correct one.
whichever... the life will go on even if you dont reach home... and basically you can always go back and go another way.
Hey :) Cooles Video!
You could also ask: could the other guy tell me to take this road if I would ask him if this is the road that brings me back home? Ok, it's actually the same.
THESE RIDDLE ARE AMAZING :O
Great
I saw this used by Samurai Jack against the magic worm
You ask, "Which one would the other say is the wrong way" and go that way.

Easy. Ask them both this question: Which way does the other guy want me to go?
This knights and knaves puzzle appears in The Labyrinth.
Was it Yogi Berra who said "When you come to a fork in the road, take it"?
Best riddles
To all of you saying "i'd ask the 1st guy this so i know if he's the liar, then ask accordingly the way to the other", come on, be serious, the riddle is ask ONLY ONE question to which BOTH guys will answer, too easy if you can ask a different one to each of them..
Ask one guy: Am I male? ( because I am) If he answers yes he is the truth teller. If he answers no he is the liar. Then just ask the other guy what road will bring you home.

U ARE A GENIUS !!!!
right is always right
I've got another method, you ask one of them which road you came from, if the one lies you know that the other guy well tell the truth, if he doesn't lie than you know the other one will lie.
I cracked this riddle
Nice video :D
The question you need to ask is: What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Well think of it like this, the way youre wanting to go can be considered the positive way and the other a negative way. Asking the truth teller would give a positive answer and asking the liar would give a negative answer. Because both will always state opposite answers to each other you have to think what question would get the same answer regardless of who you asked. The question is What path would he (the other one) would say if I asked for the correct road. The truth teller would think my brother the liar would lie and say that one which is the wrong path, the liar would think my brother would say the correct path so he lies and says the incorrect path. Therefore you go down the opposite path
Ugandan knuckles: De wae *cluck ×100
Or you can say "To the one that tells the truth, which is the right way?"...
Couldnt you also ask, pointing to the way to your left: "Is this way both, the way to my left and the way I should take to come home?"
Pretty much any question which you already know such as "do I have five fingers?". The one who says yes is the one whose path you go down.
I have another solution. I would ask one guy if the way i came from will lead me back home. If he says yes, i know he is the liar and i can ask the other one for the right way. If he says no i know the says the truth and ask the liar for the way and take the other. Those riddles have a huge downside and are easy to solve, if you do not want to hear your specific solution. If you know that someone is 100% lying to you but dont know who it is, just ask something you already now the answer to and you are good to go.
How about "which road should I take to get home, which just happens to be having a free beer fest?" Then ignore whatever they say and just follow them. Similarly, "who want to escort me home and get paid a million dollars once we get there?"
That was tough
My way was a bit different, basically a slightly more complicated derivation of the offered solution. I would have asked each of them the following question: "If I ask the other guy if this road (pointing at any of the two) was the right one, what would he say?" If it's the right road I pointed at, the truth guy would say no, because the lie guy would have lied about it. If I ask the lie guy, he would also say no, as it is the opposite of what the truth guy would have told me. If it was the wrong way, both of them would have said yes, using the same logic. Basically, if they both answer no, the road I pointed at was the right one, and if they both say yes, it's the other one.
I'm so shook
suddenly you come to a **** in the road.
What kind of knob would see someone lost and create the condition that they can only ask one question?
I would just ask both can you show me the way home One would say no The other one would say yes and show me the way
I faced this question during an interview. I gave the answer and was similer to this answer. One change instead of home it was city and village, the person wants to go to the city.
Or you ask one of them if he knows the right way. You already know that they both know the right way so depending on the answer to that question you know which one always tells the truth and which one always lies. Next you just ask the other person which the right way is. So if the answer to the question is "yes" you know that the other person (the liar) will answer "left" and you'll know that you have to go right.
Ich liebe Rätsel, ich bin einfach verrückt nach Rätseln! Danke für diese Rätsel!
You could just ask: "Is the time night or day" to the first, and then depending on if he lies, you ask the other: "Which path do I take". EZ If first dude lies, you take the path the other tells you. Elsewise, you take the path the other tells you not to take.

You can only ask one question (4 years ago)
he sounds tierd
It pains me to see people wanting to ask 1 guy something such as "Is the sky blue", or any other question to determine the liar/honest guy, then wanting to ask a 2nd question, even though all versions of this question state this isn't allowed. But this is my answer: Punch 1 guy in the face, then go left. (I've seen this one many times.)
I got it!
There are 3 solutions the one you said If I were to ask you which one is correct, what door would you say? If I were to ask you which one is incorrect what door would you say? 2s explanation:for their own reasons they both say the correct one. 3s explanation:for their own reasons they both say the incorrect one.
You, like many others, failed to mention in the riddle description that they know whether the other guy always tells the truth or lies.
Twin same person... Same people... I don't know what am I talking about...
you can also ask one man if he knows the right way. if he says no so he is the liar and then ask the other one what is the right way then go there. if the first one says yes then you need to ask the second one what is the right way and go to the opposite one.
Love ur accent dude
Ask one of them if you're asking them a question. That way you know who's lying and can ask the other one which is your way home and know if they're lying or not
Atleast it wasnt an ogre that would occassionally tell the truth.
I can't believe how many people in the comments of this 1.5 minute video missed the rule "you may only ask 1 question" ._.
The way you asked the question led me to simply ask the man who always tells the truth. This is the simplest answer. Your answer, however, signals that you should have stated that we do not know which of the two men is the truth teller.
There is actually another way, and that way is ask one man what's a number. If he tells the truth, he will say it's a number but if he didn't tell the truth, he will say it's a letter. Then you know which is lying. So after, ask the other man which is the right way. Thank me later 😁
