This is very important. Beginning of the year, my mum pass on due to cancer... Dad had a fall a year ago and he fall into dementia after... they never do the LPA or stuff... My mum death left a mark on me, the last 2 months when she is in Hospice is scary.. the amount of pain is 11/10 with pain killers and morphine... she tank for 2 mths and went home to Jesus. The Hospice without grant is $750 a day. I am glad that gov got a lot of things in place but the fight with cancer is insane... I wish everyone who is able, get this LPA done. So whoever you left behind wont have to go tru alot of hurdles. :(
Never encountered a situation where an LPA would have been helpful, however, my whole family recently has already done it as we know the importance of doing up one. I am only 28 and my sibling is 26. I have also communicated my wishes to my family since my late teens that if anything ever happens to me, just pull the plug. Early on they were like "eh this kind of thing cannot say" but I have been reiterating it since then and they've gotten used to it. Along with my LPA, I also signed the Advanced Medical Directive (AMD) which gives the doctor the right to make the decision on whether to pull the plug if I am at death's door, so that my family, future partner and friends do not have to quarrel to make that decision. All these legalities really just helps to make the life of those left behind easier. If it reaches that point, we are already vegetables or close to death, it would not matter much to us.
Personally, I think that advance medical directive (AMD) is a responsible thing to do as a family member. No one should be made to go through the decision making process of turning on or off your life support. It's an emotional burden that no one needs to go through for the rest of his or her life.
Yes. To stop my partners pain. Yes. I will have to live with the pain and guilt, but at least my partner will not suffer anymore.
On the Terry Schiavo case - one factor is that the US doesn't have national healthcare so the family can be responsible for some or all of the healthcare costs. The cost for her care at the time was $80,000/year. If the husband wants to pull the plug but the family doesn't, then I would expect the family to pay for the costs to keep her alive. They didn't, of course, in the Schiavo case.
thank you for doing this topic to raise awareness :)
That is why you have Power of Attorney. Should the person be in a vegetative state with machines "helping" that person to live, then POA steps and does what that person wanted when he/she was conscious.
Thank you guys, this is an excellent segment! Very informative and awakening!
good job for discussing this topic guys :) finacial / estate planning is always important yet receive such pushback from masses.. so hopefully this opens up public's mindset to have such conversations..
such an interesting topic. my grandma had the same problem, and none of us knew this was an option.
always enjoy yr episodes, thanks guys! 💪💪
Her questions/statements are always valid and challenging thus far
I learnt that there's no right or wrong answer for this. Had to make a decision to continue/stop my deceased uncle's cancer treatment because it had already spreaded to alot of places. My logical thinking was to stop treatment because since it already spreaded to so many places, its not going to help much too. That was what the doctor thought too as well. But after that, there are still times where i thought: what if he might have lasted longer and stayed with us for longer if only he had continued with the treatment. But he was already in so much pain at that time. It's been around 2 years after he passed but that thought still haunts me from time to time. Definitely agree that it's important to openly discuss death and what to do after death so that when it really happens, everything is already well thought out and there will be lesser stress on the deceased's family.

Mega love in helping to spread the awareness!!!
important episode!!
I am older than all of you. I am uncomfortable talking about this. But your video has taken me 1 more step forward. Might have to watch this a few times...
great episode
Why am I listening to this 😂 so morbid but additive 😂😂😂
Depends on the age ,and if advnce ,than what kind of life? If dragging on and no quality. This discussion good as we are going to die so face facts and be practical.
If ppl are conscious while on life support… tht’s gona be the most claustrophobic situation ever. I wld hope w all my might to die asap & id be extremely frustrated if the plug isnt pulled.
Hi daily ketchup, first here🎉🎉🎉
Pain symptoms management can be determined by doctors. 🙏
do another episode on MAID
Be it 70% or 7% .... be it in a group discussion and a discussion from a normal person as you now.... you will cry and scream deep inside you.... when the Doctor asked you to put your signature on the paper... for your very loved one... no answer is your decision to sign on the paper... you will never know the never ending pain so pain....
Can't really know if the person is in pain especially if they are intubated and unconscious. The doctor/nurses probably would have given something to ease their pain before intubating for life support. In such cases, does it mean that the person is not in pain due to medication? I was in a similar situation where the doctor mentioned that the chances of survival were close to none and I asked the doctor/nurses if my partner was in pain, and they said no, before deciding to pull the plug. I think no one should determine if they should give up on the fight or not, especially for their loved ones. Till now I still had nightmare on that particular day and kept thinking if the right decision was made, even though I know there was no right or wrong answer. If this happened to me in future, I know that I would not want to impose such a decision on my parents or on my new partner(if there is one). Since then, I was trying to find an answer and found out about "My Legacy" which I happened to chance upon when i Ipen the Life@SG application. Till now, I am still unsure if I should include my close friends instead of parents, and yes, LPA and ACP could be your friend as well, but make sure to discuss with all the relevant parties. I also do not want to burden my close friends but I think that they would be in a clearer state of mind to act on my wishes. I am barely 30 and have always been really naive with my thinking. Age doesn't matter in such a situation as you do not know what will happen to you tomorrow.

I am sorry that you have to make such decision. I think the patients will want someone logical to make the decision. Yet bystanders will judge the logical ones as the heartless ones 😢 I am sure you partner agrees with your decision.
why does Jared keep pronouncing "subscribe" as "suscribe"?
Damn man ignorance really is bliss sometimes 😭😭😭
For me I read the first 10 posts then I usually move on
Been enjoying all the great episodes. The only problem is i need more
