In the Northeast US, we pronounce both words (actually a lot of words) like the British do, without pronouncing the R at the end, unless the next word starts with a vowel. Here it's known as "The Boston Accent". Matt Damon is a great example of someone who speaks with a Boston Accent. As you move further south and west, people start to pronounce the R's

It's so weird when you hear someone say "meer" (refering to a mirror) for the first time... That was many years ago for me. Now I've observed that not only (some) Americans say "meer" but also some Irish people.

@@christmaslightsuptilljanuary What do you mean? You do say "meer"? That is totally fine - almost everyone is using some kind of regional "accent" and there is nothing wrong with that. All I was trying to say is - that if someone is used to hear people pronouncing this word "mirra" or "mirror" for decades, it's really weird to hear someone for the first time to pronounce it "meer". Especially because it might take a while until you start realizing what "meer" is supposed to mean. (Depending on the context...)

@@HongaarseDuifIt's just a matter of T in Indian languages being different from English T. T in English is often aspirated and Native English speakers don't even notice this. On the other hand Indian T is unaspirated and sometimes with dental stop if the speaker has a "heavy accent". Another thing Indians do is use the aspirated T for voiceless Th sounds eg. Three becomes "Tree" and Tree becomes तree. Also voiced Th becomes D, like "this" becomes "dis". You don't quite pronounce "Thailand" as "ThighLand", do you? It has to be "tʰailand", in other words "aspirated T".

I like the way the R in the middle or end of a word is pronounced, It helps us easily distinguish one word from another.
In British Scottish we always pronounce the ‘r’ at the end, in fact we keep it rolling for quite some time

Makes me wonder about: error and era!
It is not because it's at the end it's because in British Dialects you don't pronounce the R if it's after a vowel, typically seen as -er like "Water"

Lucy, I love you. thank you very much!
I would say more accurately that it's Southern British English. In the parts of the UK (most notably Scotland) where a rhotic dialect predominates, the final r is always enunciated.

That’s because of William the Conqueror who brought French to England and influenced the development of the British English. In the same way, when English was brought to what would become the United States, it changed again in accent and usage and American English became standard here.

All of the "r's" that the Brits neglect wind up in the southern Unite States. Yes! Their dialect picks up all of the left-off "r's" such as "pizzer" (pizza), "winder" (wondow), "warsh" (wash), etc....
I'vs been British all my life and I can say I pronoince the finnal R but I am well educated.
Nothing English without Lu C I think Only English with Lu C💟💖💯💞❤
In India I think we use whatever sounds easier to us😅 no fix rule. Sometimes American, sometimes British or sometimes pure indian
Ok thanks.Lucy.
'Meer'!! Really So basically any noise can be agreed upon as long as the whole country speaks it.
I'm from Long Island (New York State), however I don't pronounce those words the same as other Americans do. I pronounce them as: Mirror - "meer ruh" Error - "eehr ruh"
I respect every word and pronounce every single one.
Some British dialects don’t pronounce the final “r” even if the next word starts with a vowel sound. We use a guttural stop instead.
