Thanks for sharing your experience and financial implications of running a decal business. I recently purchased a Cricut and had done some vinyl decals for myself that I found quite satisfying. It serves as a nice creativity outlet. Good luck from New Hampshire, USA. I wish you continued success.

Interesting. Thank you. I realised that earning a great salary each year - it wasn't worth it if I didn't truly love my job. Even though I earn much less these days - working for myself in a fairly new business - I am truly happy x

I know what you mean, I had all of those thoughts too but I just tried to take it one step at a time and focus on what I was doing rather than thinking too much about my competition.

What did you use to calculate your costings and profits etc that’s a great way to see it’s worth it. Again Sarah you’ve inspired me so much thank you 😊

Those are just all stats from my Etsy shop that I screenshotted, but for my full year of accounts I use an accounting software and that gives me a full breakdown of everything. I was using Wave accounting but moving over to Zoho next tax year, but you could even just start with a spreadsheet.

Great video! Thank you! i love making decals, and wondered if its something i could do as a side hustle. im not sure if you didnt have it in the video, or if i just missed it, but how many hours (apx) do you put in to your decal business per week for the income you listed?

Thanks so much! So these figures are from when I only had a Cricut, and on the busier months I was probably doing full time hours 5 days a week, and on the quieter months I was doing 2-3 days a week. Now that I have a Cameo 4 as well, I get things done a lot quicker, and I've also started setting my machines cutting on an evening when I'm doing other things and it means I get finished so much quicker the next day. So on my busiest months I'm probably working 3-4 days now. So not sure if that answered your question exactly, but I think you could definitely make a decent earning as a side hustle if you're able to set your machine running when you're doing other things/you have some good time saving practices in place. I would also highly recommend having as many saved replies/auto replies/FAQs set up as possible as well as customer service is where a lot of my time goes too!

I am yes! I make a little bit less now as I no longer sell overseas, and I do a larger mix of event decals, not just wedding ones, but my decal shop is still my largest source of income and I'm still selling mostly on Etsy with not much marketing required.

What’s your Etsy store called where you sell your decals? I would like to take a look at your things ☺️

Being able to save up and quit work is such a privilege, if you're one of the lucky few in a financial position to be able to do this & have no other serious responsibilities, and your job is really impacting your mental health, I highly recommend quitting your job and pursuing something different. I stayed in a career I despised for years because of pressure form friends and family. I had no regrets about leaving that job, other than not following my heart and leaving sooner, my mental health was getting seriously bad and years later I'm not the same. No job, no career, no 'prestige', no amount of keeping other people happy is worth an ounce of your mental health.

It really is! And I totally agree. I’m so glad you managed to do what was right for your mental health as well. I always think in the future when I look back, I’ll never regret not working more, but I might regret missing out on doing the things that I love!
