This is honestly inspiring me, I started 1.3 years ago at 19 and kept doubting myself as I wanted to play it when I was young but we couldn’t afford it. I’m in grade 2 now and I’m loving it

I know a lady, 78 years old!, she started learning this year.. It was an old dream of hers that now became true. I know a pianist who also started with 45. He wrote a book on cello for beginners and from time to time I talk to him. If you want, nothing is impossible.

Oh God this resonates so much with me. Pretty much the same story-- always wanted to play cello, but it was too expensive when I was a child, and in recent years I always thought that life's progressed too far already, or that I'm too busy to learn it... Got a guitar, just like you, as a compromise, but could never truly commit to it, just didn't feel right. But now, finally, I rented my first cello last week, and I am beyond excited. Thank you for sharing your story through this video, it is so motivating to hear from other people within my age group that have also just started learning!

Wow this is so encouraging! Thanks!! I'm 26 and I just started self teaching 2 weeks ago. I've always wanted to learn the cello and decided to start realizing that dream as my goal for 2021. Hopefully I can get a teacher once it's safer to do so, I don't like the online option.

Also, to other learners, you never stop learning, its an endless journey. Even professionals hit roadblocks get frustrated and discover something new. Its a life long commitment and very rewarding

It's my favorite instrument, I get so emotional when I hear the sound of the cello, it's so beautiful. This is what I needed. I've always wanted to learn how to play an instrument my whole life, but never really opened up myself to the opportunities to learn it because I never thought about in middle and high school, or thought that we had to already know how to learn it. I was going to be a Senior in high school and realized that it was almost too late to learn, and it hit me that I needed to or else I might never. I had a friend that played sax and asked him if we had an orchestra. He said yeah, and I went to the orchestra teacher and I had to choose between the bass, cello, or violin. She recommended cello, and I took her advice. And I regret nothing. It was so amazing. I fell in love as soon as I held it. I practiced all summer. However, I made the mistake of taking anatomy instead of cello classes my senior year for two reasons:1) I have always wanted to take anatomy. I'm interested in the human body and that was one chance I had. 2) I assumed it would look great on college apps because it was a difficult science. I realize that that didn't really matter. All that mattered was my GPA. So I continued my fall semester of college (which was last year in 2019) and had to pay for my lessons. I couldn't find the music book nor could I afford my own cello. I also was learning how to read music along with it, too. Unfortunately, my spring semester, I took too many classes and had a job, so I couldn't have the time to take lessons. I also don't think I could have paid the man because I was getting paid direct deposit and didn't have a car to go and check some money out. I recently started watching America's Got Talent and imagined I was up there, playing the cello or saying a poem (I like to write, too) and getting four yeses or a golden buzzer and with everyone saying to not wait and just go ahead and follow your dreams, I want to start doing it. I need to raise and save some money, first. It might be more difficult now because of covid 19 but I hope it works out in the end. I have a few different dreams, and I want at least one of them to come true. So thank you for showing this video and inspiring people like me that it's not too late to learn. I absolutely love it!

I don't recommend having America got talent as a goal it's really not worth it and they dont recognize talent when they see it

@@mohamedalhatmi5710 True. I don't really mean that as a life goal, but I was imagining I would be good enough for that some day because I really love it. Update: I think God is telling me to go with a biology degree (like I said, anatomy and all that), so even though my mind isn't wired for this math stuff, the actual science part minus the math is what I'm going for, especially since there aren't many opportunities to go into the arts field that I'm interested in. Also, I can't get a job rn and I think the cello teacher left, so when I get my own money somehow I'll buy my cello and everything and teach myself I guess

I just went back to cello 4 months ago after a 48-year gap! I played in junior high in the early '70s, but to move on in high school, I had to have my own instrument--which was not possible for my family. I pretty much forgot about it and then life happened: work, family, all that. But this year, at 62, I rented at first, just to be sure it wasn't a whim, but when I sat with the cello in the store, I thought I would cry! I knew I was "home." I left with a rental, brought it back 3 weeks later and purchased. I was shocked, quite frankly, at how much came back to me. I now play every day and am even beginning to compose over back-tracks a little bit. Cello players never fret. 😍🎻🎶🎻

I had to quit cello when I left school as I couldn't afford one. (I'm from the UK and at the time you could get free lessons and the school provided the instrument for free too.) Fast forward around 25 years and I'm thinking of restarting. It's encouraging to hear how much came back to you even after such a long gap.

Yeah this video speaks exactly why I want to learn cello.

So now at forty, I'm just gonna go for it bc life is too short. Even hearing you play the actual string itself is healing for me to listen to. For me, my goal is just to be able to make beautiful tones, and possibly some beautiful melodies.

This is such an inspiration. I played cello for 7 years but stop after my first year of college, and I'm just now picking it up again 15 years later lol. I really hope I haven't forgotten everything!

I started at 32 yo, and stopped due to busy schedule at work, restarted at 40, and then stopped again, and now at 47, I start again! I say if we enjoy what we love, let not anything hinder us! Patting all of us on the back!!!

I know of a lady learning it now when she is 76. If she can, you can. I have met a pianist who started it with 45 years old and he even wrote a book for Cello beginners. If they can, you can. "Nothing is impossible. The word already says: IMpossible!" Don't put obstacles and excuses in your head. Don't listen to "nay-sayers", don't compare yourself to others. Trust my words and keep them in your heart. You can do that!

I'm 56 and just started (though I was a music major decades back, so it's not a first instrument). Also a 외국인.

THANK YOU for sharing this! I have always LOVED the cello, but growing up my parents couldn't afford such an expensive instrument. I took piano and violin from 3rd grade up until I was about 17, but they were chosen FOR me and basically forced upon me. Needless to say, I completely quit those and haven't picked either of those up since (I am now 31). My second favorite instrument has been a clarinet. When I was 19 I bought my own, super cheap/student Bb clarinet and paid for lessons at Music & Arts. I took lessons for about a year, but life (more adult responsibilities) stopped them and my heart wasn't in it enough to be passionate about making time for those lessons to continue. I'm now married, have a family of my own, and have truly been enjoying some hobbies of mine, and have rekindled my LOVE of the cello by searching up videos (like yours!) and listening to classical pieces starring the cello. I'm not in the position, currently, to just buy one of my own just yet, but I would absolutely love to find someplace near me to rent one from and at least begin lessons.

I have also started to learn playing Cello (I’m currently 25) and it makes sooo much fun, it’s such a beautiful and powerful instrument - it has definitely helped me to go through some difficult times (especially now) as well as it is the best way to develop yourself in a completely new way. So - keep it going!!! 🤩 PS: where are your finger placement tapes actually from?? 🤔

Bravo! Keep on, cello is the best instrument out there! It's difficult, sure, but you can learn to play quite well as an adult too. Keep on!

I've loved cello for a very long time for all the reasons you listed. We never had an orchestra program at my school district (just a regular concert band). I'm glad I watched this video, it helped me feel a lot better about trying at age 30. :) I also had the same situation with guitar. Didn't get to do strings growing up and thought guitar would be a good alternative. I took lessons for a few months and decided I didn't really like guitar all that much.

My story is very similar to yours although instead of the guitar it's the piano. I'm 28 and I started learning the cello 10 months ago. So far so good! It is hard but very rewarding and there are no regrets! I'm glad I decided to start learning it because I would have regreted it later. Can't wait until I'm able to play more complex music...in a few years of course😊

Not sure, but it appears you bridge is slightly warped. You may want to have that looked at if it isn't some optical illusion.

Since last year i been just doing things that i have always wanted to do. I started by growing plants and i hve a big succulent garden went into it knowing nothing then i moved into a actual vegetable garden hving sand as the spot thought nothing would grow and already working on the second harvest. My dream to learn Japanese and i finally did my research I start Saturday. Not as expensive as i thought. Then cello a instrument that brings harmony to my ears. I figured im the only that can make my dream come true and im gunna try it period. I never knew renting a cello was a option. I want to make it happen . Is online enough or a teacher is a must?

That's awesome! I'm so happy to hear you are going to pursue cello! I responded to your comment on my other cello video but just to answer your question about a teacher. I would recommend an in person teacher if you can, but if online is what works best for you then just do that. The important thing is to find a supportive teacher you love and just get started :)

I've always wanted to play the cello since a young age also. I played the violin for about six years when I was young, then went on to the viola bc I loved the deeper tones, I always wanted the Cello in my soul, that's clear!

I'm thinking about learning it too. I'm playing a little bit the guitar and I do love love the guitar, but I always wanted to play the cello too. However, since it is so expensive and I'm 28 now I was afraid of trying it out. But I thing after your beautiful motivational clip I will do this as well. Cello, guitar, harp and drums 🖤

Congrats (belated of course) on this new journey! I love seeing fellow adult beginners! I echo your sentiments for sure! I played viola for most of my elementary school years and into middle school. For high school, I changed schools (my previous one had a strings program, but no the new school) and dropped the viola. As I got older, I like you felt like I wanted to pick up an instrument again, I loved the cello, but didn't have the means. At 27 I had the ability to invest and plunged head first! I was able to play for two years and then had to stop so I could pay for a course abroad. Now at 30, I picked it back up again! Trying to remember what I had learned previously has been difficult, especially since I can't afford a teacher right now, but I've found some useful people online like Jonathan Humphries to remind me of skills I had forgotten.

Good choice. The cello is a beautiful instrument. Probably has the widest range of all the orchestral strings. Plays in from low c on the piano to well into violin range. It's been said the cello sounds the most like the human voice.

Lol I started learning at 13, and yeah I was a little late for it as a kid, but it's never too late to start learning anything and to enjoy it. Do things for the sake of doing things for yourself!

My first ever cello lesson is next Thursday... I'm 29, turning 30 next year 😅 I've been playing the piano since I was a kid but recently the cello stole a big piece of my heart 😍 I'm really nervous cause I've only ever briefly tried a violin and a viola... So no experience with string instruments 🙈 Thank you so much for this video, this message will surely help me stay realistic, hold on to hope and motivation but also keep my goals achievable ☺️

I'm 31 yo and I'm learning as well....If I don't start it..I will regret it later.. I agree with everything you said..and yes..it's extremely difficult..oh my God😳 Why do we need to love such a complicated instrument??

63 years old Suzuki book 3. Same book as the kids. Played french horn in school treble clef. It is so hard to play and so worth it.
