Its more of a preference, some people like being defensive and some people would rather kill the enemy faster than they can kill them. If you think about it, shields are only useful in pve if the mob takes miniscule amounts of knockback and have alot of health, ft, ravager Everything else can be stunlocked like what he did with the enderman. In Axe/Sword pvp its a necessity especially (I'm talking about strength netherite). Why? 30 damage crits thats why. Even blocking a single axe crit can change the tides of battle, Since the sword has higher dps alternating between blocking and critting is a valid strategy as you can quickly regen sword cd whilst keeping your shield up. Once again shields are useful, just not in the ways the mcyt community thinks they are.

Toycat mostly plays single player survival Minecraft on bedrock on an 8 year old world, it makes sense why he'd think shields are useless and I agree with him in that situation

The fitght with the guardian looks like the most epic boss batle of all time

Someone beat it with their Fist and no shield or armour in sideways minecraft, so having a shield is enough. the wither however wont perch at all, so it will fly away and blow you up. the wither phase 2, if you somehow manage to get it to that phase is possible with a shield because it won't fly.

I like how he hates skeletons more than ghasts. skeleton: only on ground can be blocked by shield burns in daylight starts wars with other mobs when it accidentally hits them and if it kills 1 Boomy Boi then you best get GRUVIN' has a chance to give you bones, arrows, bows, and even armor (enchanted) when defeated. ghast: can't be blocked by shield does not ever burn LITERALLY FLIES has a low chance to give anything, and if so, a tear. blows up bridges conclusion: skeleton is good, ghast is bad.

Fun fact: in the new combat tests, this type of thing is much easier because shields don't have the .25 second delay when you put them up and your fists do twice as much damage. However, the shields do have a limit to how much damage they block
