RTX 4090: why did you forgot me?

It's not only about FPS though, frame times are also very important. Would be interesting to see how the games would run of the cpu were to be overclocked to 4.2Ghz. I still have my i5 750 2.8Ghz. I used run it at 4.2Ghz. Also would be interesting to see how the system would perform with 16Gb ram and overclocked ram.

Interesting video. I would say that even though you can get a decent average fps in some of those multiplayer games the game will freeze up occasionally (usually during important moments) making it not very playable. For single player games this isn't as much of an issue.

I had to use a ten year old AMD Radeon R7 250 in my Ryzen 5 3600 build for a year during the video card shortage. I finally got an RX 6600XT in early 2022.

I love that there was a DOS driver

Depends on the driver. Windows Vista Drivers on XP is ok. Windows 10/11 drivers in XP, not. My Radeon designed for Vista has been running good on my XP desktop.

Do you think a Dell xps(2017) with an i7-7700 would work well if I put an RTX4060 into it? Low settings are fine. I dont have any pc to game on, just getting started.

I got a Core 2 Quad Q8400 paired with 2x4GB DDR3 1066mhz, then slapped in a good ol' GTX 770 and boy does the CPU be at 100% all the time lol.

This is just possible because the games used here are point focus games like shooters or exploration games where you only controls your characters specifically (camera is stucked on your character). and that folks are not CPU taxing games, the GPU just take the work load when cpu is struggling. Now, if you play real modern games RTS like Spellforce 3, Age of Empires 4, or open world Diablo4,RDR4,Skyrim,STARFALL. that is not Possible.

my main pc has: i7 860 2.8ghz + gtx 1650 4gb. War Thunder runs at an average of 70 fps at maximum graphics settings

This computer's specifications are still sold by bad sellers selling i7 gaming pc, emphasis on i7, but with gt 710/730

I don’t think so. It’s not 13/14900k so, your temperature must be fine, you are using a necessary cooler ofc

I paired my I5 750 with an rx 560 4GB haha tho frames are sometimes not consistent maybe because I have 8GB ram and also bottlenecked from my CPU

You can breath "new life" into an older computer by 1. upgrading the video card 2. Maxing out the Ram (back in the day when maxing out meant 2, 4 or 8 GBs obvs), and 3. Upgrading the CPU to the best one that the slot in question can support (less advisable if the difference is marginal at best) and assuming you have the power for it. My philosophy regarding video cards is to search internet for "best video card for x processor". I ended up with an Radeon HD4600 series card for the Windows XP computer (Sempron 3300) and ironically an HD7770 for the Windows Seven Computer (Athlon II X2 250). The former does occasionally bottleneck the CPU, but the latter is a good match. Obviously not the purpose of this video, but better match for the I7 860 would be something like a GTX 760.

had a i7 920 that wasnt much faster and a 5870 back in the day. worked fine was well balenced and the gpu was at 100% so cpu was feeding it ok - upgraded to 5820k and gtx 1080 in 2016

I could saved you some time and told you that the 3770k is still a good processor. Ive paired one with a 2060 for years and it plays most anything.

I don't know if you know but NVidia GPU drivers has higher CPU overhead than AMD GPU drivers so I mean if could have modern AMD Radeon GPU (equivalent to your GTX 1080 for example) the performance could be better in AMD GPU on the same CPU

That is untrue nonsense. If you are seeing higher CPU utilization, it is only because the game or benchmark is running faster due to a faster GPU and therefore, giving the CPU more work to do as well because it isn't waiting around as much for the GPU to do it's share.

@@RamtechENG Glad too see parts go on sale. Haven't used the GT 740 in so long. Originally got it for SLI. The GTX 1650 is great for my needs. I prefer eco style cards capped at 300 watts. Just something about squeezing as much performance out of those cards as possible. Think the GTX 1050 models are great for that too😎

A HD5850 is not really an old graphics card, you can go to the 6th generation of Nvidia GPUs for PCI Express. Also the i-series CPUs are fairly new, there is PCI Express on Pentium 4 Boards already. I am a bit disappointed, how you did talk about the PCI Express history, but did not even try its first GPUs really.

Which i5? The i7-860 is a 1st generation i series processor. At this point, there are many i3 processors that run circles around that cpu.

My mom's PC will either get my rx 580 when i finally buy a 2070 super or something better probably this summer or gonna get my cousin's GT 1030 and i give my gpu to him because my mom's PC doesn't really have a very capable PSU... The problem that my cousin doesn't know about this yet.. Hopefully he gonna wanna have a stronger GPU my mom's pc is only used for browsing and movie anyways.. xD

why are you testing games in ultra settings, set them to the minimum

I'm not surprised at all that the result is you have a thinner wallet. ;) Some upgrades simply don't make sense, should have just gotten a 3070 and saved the difference to put towards a system replacement, sooner.

Because there isn't one. First gen i7 desktop CPUs did not have integrated graphics
