I always suggest everybody keeping at least two copies of everything important (if very important, more than 2). You never know when a drive corrupts or fails physically. Unfortunately this does not help you now. It may help in the future though.

My single drive (non raid) NAS with the secondary backup failed (physical drive needle crash) the day before. My RAID NAS had not been backing up this folder for >1 year and not noticed. The odds of these were pretty remote.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I've checked all the video's of the Chinese heater and I hope you'd pick up the project again. It's a wonderful thing that you're trying to make.

Northridge Fix works on these a lot. Believe it or not, you probably have a shorted cap. Remove it and the drive will work again, at least well enough to get your data off.

Yeah using dd in Linux might be a very good first start. It might be that easy

Hi, I know your pain. If the response of the 2nd quote is correct and the LBA map is corrupted or the nand flash is broken then you're out of luck. You can try to boot your favourite linux os, install smartmontools and run smartctl -s on -a /dev/nvmeXn1 (assuming that linux can find the controller). You can also try to clean the nvme with isopropanol thoroughly, dry it and put it in the freezer for an hour ( in a bag with a desiccant packet to make sure theres no moisture) then try again while it's still cold.

First of all - use 'dd' to copy data as is to bigger disk Second check what percentage of data was successfully copied Third try to recover files from the new disk(with already copied data) Save original disk. By the answer of first firm it looks like ohisical media are intact.

Oh... Damn, Eric... I'm really sorry. 😔 I have a few friends who lost data in SDDs... One of them even paid for a company who said they could recover it, but... Well, it was a fraud. 😕 From the little I know about SDDs... It's basically impossible. 😔

I assume you've already checked KZread for videos on SSD data recovery -- I know some of them offer their services as well. A couple I've seen appear extremely capable and get down to the ram data pin level to extract data if necessary. I can't think of the channel names off hand, but I can review my subscriptions to look for them if you haven't already explored that route.

Yup several thousand is what it takes for hardcore work like that. I have been involved in that with corporate IT. It requires assembly language skills and it’s a very long and slow process which is why they charge so much. Sorry to hear that.
