This game is really missing some pedestrian stairs that you could add. Those are so common in England, just a big stairway leading up the hill for pedestrian access, while the road curves around the block to get up on a gentle slope. Also, I'm not sure I like coach buses going around as city buses, it's just not really realistic, now is it? I'd just go with double decker

its one thing thats bothered me for years... we just need a stair case with an attached elevator instead of making mile long ramps. It would also be a relativly easy part to have scale with height the width of the walkways also feels off but thats more them using the grid size rather then having grass either side in dense inner city

Oh man, it was so frustrating when you concentrated on that junction next to tennis courts, and then shopping centres, not noticing that they’re not using rightmost lane (closest to the tennis court) to go straight because next junction lets them only go left from that lane. That would probably be tiny fix for huge savings in car backlog

The main reason that cars keep stopping is that to get out when they aren't allowed to block the junction, there has to be enough space for the entire vehicle to get through the junction. If the junctions are close together, there isn't enough space for several cars to get through the junction at once if the traffic through the roundabout is heavy. The space issue is obviously made even worse if you make the node bigger with node controller. Best general solution to this is bigger roundabouts with more space between the junctions and not making the junction nodes as big.

  • @brunomarkus9723

@@12morefacts I never understood why he refuses to enable it for incoming roads. 40:00 The biggest problem isn't the cars not obeying yield sign (they are obeying it), it is the pedestrians crossing the street. Without signals peds just cross as they arrive so they're interfering with through traffic, and when the traffic is halted by the pedestrians, the vehicles using the yield then go (because cross traffic is halted) and are also slowed up by pedestrians crossing, and everyone is in the way of everyone else. This is a constant problem with using stop/yield signs for vehicles and not forcing alternate routes for foot traffic. You have traffic signals controlling intersections east and west of that intersection, so the best solution is to remove the ped crossings and force everyone to go to the adjacent intersections and cross with the signals. Without peds getting in the way the traffic leaving the shopping center will hold until there is an actual gap and then will make the right turn without interfering.

  • @MrHenkkkie

In addition, 39:48 clearly shows how the pedestrians do not have separate entry/exits to the shopping center. They have to use the same entries as car traffic. That contributes to the congestion. More footpath connections will make walking a better alternative

44:17 - Don't forget that you disabled ALL traffic on that little now-disconnected side road. Now that you've disconnected that side road from the intersection, you should take off the traffic restrictions on that section of the side road. That one building feeds into/out of that little side road and because of the traffic restrictions, cars can't get there. And since it's disconnected from the intersection (ex-roundabout) you might as well let the cars use it again.

Great series so far, it's great to see a UK style city! One point though, I don't think you should add fences and trees etc between businesses and the main road as you have done at the Aldi and the petrol station, it's not realistic. The businesses would want the public to see the building as they drive past and not hide behind a fence or a tree, so my small suggestion is removing those elements. I love watching you build though, keep up the entertaining work!

@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines I don't know about the UK, but it's common practice in NZ for those trial road closures. If the road is closed for just a few days, they'll use road cones and detour signs - but if they're going to close it for six months to see what effect it has on traffic flow, they usually block it off with something more substantial. Concrete planter boxes are popular, because they're not only an effective-but-portable barrier, they're also attractive.

40:15. A practical solution. You used it differently to how we use it but still similar. Australia has a lot of these sorts of sections of road. There are 'Keep Clear' areas marked out on the road at intersections where only one side of the road is marked to Keep Clear. They are found at busy junctions and intersections, to allow the side street vehicles to cross the congested traffic lane into the flowing traffic lane going in the opposite direction. There will also be a 'Do Not Queue Across The Intersection' sign. 'Keep Clear' markings are also found outside Police, Fire and Ambulance stations but both sides of the road will be marked.

Here's some suggestions, if these might help: 1. Add a third lane for southbound traffic who wish to enter the retail park. 2. Make the small roadways that access the thoroughfares either side of the retail park, only accessible to lorries; might need to reroute a bus line that goes through them. 3. Establish some more high-rise flats somewhere south of St.Giles West 4. Give the high street area a tea-based name! Oh, and a City Hall, if possible! 5. Make a disused railway line to cut through a new housing area, potentially with some having been redeveloped by Blightea's city council to incorporate a footpath and cycle path. 6. Create a construction site for a new road, and find signage for roadworks, to create a few to be more realistic and add a little challenge to managing traffic!

The thing I noticed with smaller roundabouts is that the game only lets enough cars go onto a segment at a time, so with the smaller segments it will only allow one car at a time. This means it prioritizes an oncoming car, then allows one side car if there's space. For really small roundabouts like your problem one its actually better to turn on the "go through" symbol. (Make sure your simulation accuracy is set to high at least so the incoming traffic actually yields) Sometimes I also make it a one lane roundabout too. Surprisingly it usually works extremely well.

You should replace the forestry fence that goes along the road at the top of those cliffs with a regular park fence. I feel like one should be able to enjoy that view so it's a shame to just block it off with a big plank :P Think of the view when you're walking on that sidewalk looking down there, you could probably see past the highway to the fields or whatever you're going to have on that side! :D

Maybe make the two diversion signs you set up at the roundabout in the beginning one way signs, as the traffic on the roundabout only moves one direction, and the same with the second one you put in at the other end as there’s only a road going right? 😊 Keep up the great work, it is very entertaining 👏🏼🤩

Hi Biffa, the junction at the tennis club isn't being used to its fullest potential because the other junction to get into the tennis club has dedicated turning lanes. If you made both lanes go straight on as well as the one to turn it would improve traffic flow as they'd use both lanes on the main road then.

Loving the UK build, a lot of it reminds me of where I grew up... minor thing: you've got the one-lane road going into the Shell station and McD's going US/European style. It should be in the other direction. The other thing there is that you've used screening fences and there's no way that either of those places would accept that: they'd probably even want the tress removing for visibility of the businesses. Possibly even the same where you put in the safety fencing early on: the residents along the main road there would love having their view converted to an industrial fence ;) Could just use the regular park fence; much more local council feel I reckon. Of course, most likely it'd be a hedge with the odd gap where the kids (old and young) squeeze through and scramble down to use it as a shortcut.

I noticed quite early the outside lanes on the roundabout are double purpose. None of the regular traffic were using the inside lane and thus the right lane of the approaching roads weren't being utilised either. If the outside roundabout lane was repurposed for leaving at the "next exit" the roundabout would handle double the traffic.

Might need a small police station by the stadium. People go to the game, hit the pub and get proper sloshed, stumble to the salon (that has stocked up in team colors and kept open for after game), get a regrettable ironic cut and color, hit the grocery for food, then wobble along the road and dare their rivals (easily identifiable, even through beer-goggles, by the colored hair) to jump/toss food-stuffs off the drop. Life in Giles: slow, pleasant, down-right friendly... except for once a month, when they completely lose their minds.

You should place some sort of pedestrian access from the Thornaby to St Giles directly opposite the football ground; maybe an underpass; this will reduce the distance to cross the road and car journeys to the football ground and amenities. Perhaps building a bus interchange to the north of the Wave Retail park, having the busses drop and a pedestrian overpass to get out the retail park. This will reduce the number of bus traffic in the area as there is a dedicated space for them.

Hi ... so you split up St. Giles into rival districts and then you bring in ALDI (Albrecht Discount). Well, the Albrecht brothers also split their company into ALDI Nord (North) and ALDI Süd (South) with the border running through the middle of Germany and they divided their international operations. As they are using two different designs you also find different assets on the workshop. 13:31 This pedestrian path/bridge is great but you can add to it by adding 1. a pedestrian crossing on the main road, 2. a path into the side streets beyond the main road, 3. bus stops: a main road bus will stop on both sides and circulator busses within the districts terminate at the ends of the paths. You already give pedestrians several connections cars don't have. Using the paths for transfer opportunities opens up that additional connectivity to you transport network. 33:18 Here I saw something remarkable - setting up the timed traffic lights is changing the lane arrows (on the left-to-right-of-screen road, both directions). Theory 1: the algorithm is based on traffic intensity and sets lane arrows accordingly which would be a good thing. Theory 2: a standard lane-arrow-Ctrl-click is performed which would be bad ... in a scenario with right-hand-side traffic with two lanes and three directions conventional wisdom tells you to give left turns (crossing traffic) a separate lane while straight-on and right sharing the other lane. In a left-hand-drive scenario this should be mirrored - but it is not! Does TMPE have a blindspot here?

I like the fixes with the lanes, but it occured in my game play that the road after the junction affects the lanes as well. So traffic can stall in one lane if the road afterwards has dedicated lanes as well. I think that happened to the roundabout. It was two lanes, so only one lane going straight on and lane one going right into the shopping area, with no node towards the junction for traffic to change lanes. They had to pick their lane at the larger roundabout off the highway.

My suggestion would be to reduce traffic by making the ways for the cars much longer and for cyclists and pedestrians short. Thus, the stadium collector road footpath would be great. I have done this in my cities and it worked perfectly. Also trams would work, but I guess you go for a current UK style with almost no trams, but you could use direct route buses to improve bus speeds. Also you could add pedestrian crossings for the two pedestrian "bridges" (the one at the stadium and the other one down the road).

I hope the new Cities, whenever that comes out, has time progression like Transport Fever has. Starting your city in 1900 and building mills and factories surrounded by small compact residential streets with small corner shops on each end and then ending in the 2020s with dedicated industrial and commercial areas with rail connections between them and residential areas would completely transform the game. Building types would also change. We go from generic terrace housing streets to detached housing estates full of parks and trees as time progresses. The finished product would be a more natural city with the old original areas with new modern areas elsewhere. I'd also prefer to start with a completely blank map with no outside connections or highways. We put them in ourselves as we please. Basically dial it back a bit to SimCity4.... And proper farmland!
