@@FirstPlaceAutoParts I still drive my 93 Chevy truck..turn 30 this year and has overdrive the way I see it some vehicles are not meant to be part time.
You know it really pisses me off, when people bash a classic or antique truck as a daily driver just because they did not have an AOD transmission or a modern 5 or 6 speed transmission. I drove my 1965 Ford F-100 with it’s 240 inline 6 and 3 speed column shift every day, never drove it on the interstate only because I never drove the 40 miles it would take to get on an interstate. But never felt unsafe at 75 or 95 mph when I drove on the highway in it. Even drove my 1972 Ford F-100 on the interstate when I moved to Austin, Texas and never felt unsafe driving that thing at 85, on I-35 and did that every day. Even drove my 1980 square body Chevy on I-35 at 85 every day. And none of those trucks had A/C, as they never needed it as I always had 3/85 A/C.
I drive my 82 Chevy every day mine usually averages about 17 miles to the gallon with a 305 in it I just love driving old classic vehicles a lot more than the newer ones of course it never bought a vehicle that what's newer than the '80s to drive everyday because your vehicles may offer you more luxury then you're older ones but overall to me the gas mileage still doesn't change much when you talk about trucks or SUVs I would figure nowadays newer trucks and SUVs would be getting at least 30 miles to the gallon plus newer Vehicles just don't have that old Sleek body style That '80s and older has so that's the reason why I drive older C10 trucks they are the kings of the road in my book thanks for the information on your Channel keep up the videos in great work

Thank you for your comments. The Q-jet has a tendency for the well main plugs at the bottom of the float area to weep creating a rich condition, especially upon restarting after sitting hot. Also, check you throttle shafts for play which will create an unmetered lean condition. Enjoy your 80 C10 and keep working on the Q-jet. It's a good daily drive carb once dialed in

Soft top. I find daily driving my 1969 mustang the biggest challenge is the more primative steering system and suspension. I have added OD. Classic vehicle,Okay, so in November of 74 Dad bought this brand new ordered to his spec's 1975 Chevrolet C-20 custom deluxe camper special. I drove it to high school. With a 30/30 in the gun rack. Last weekend when I was out and about in her, I got mixed into traffic with a classic car club and they all thought I was part of the club. I never really considered her a classic before. She's always been the truck. After Dad passed I got her, traded her back and forth with my brother a half dozen times over the years. We keep her in the family cuz she's a family member. She's been a daily driver since the day she hit the road. 82422.3 miles on the odometer for the sixth time that I know of. She's starting to get a little old and tired, seems that Dad ordered it with the double rust option rather than the normal square body rust option. And he went with the hood bend option too. Air conditioning would have been nice but no he didn't go for that option. Power steering, power brakes. Originally it came with 16.5 rims. What it has on it now is 33x12.50x 16.5 wheels and tires. Try to find a 16.5 tire nowadays. But that's what the old man ran on it. I have been trying to keep her as she's always been. She'll be 48 in November, and for some reason the girlfriend has got an attitude about being a month and a half older than my truck. I telling her your body's in much better shape and I'm pretty sure you have less miles on you.

The biggest challenges with "modern" highway speeds, which tend to run 10+ mph over the posted limits, are the rpm's that the engine will be turning at 65+ mph. Modern overdrive transmissions allow for easy 1500-1800 rpms at 65mph vs 3000+ rpm's with a non-overdrive vehicle. Engine wear will go up and mpg's go down at these kind of sustained rpm's. Fuel injection and overdrive transmissions are contributors to modern engines able to exceed 100,000 mile longevity. Driving with a non-overdrive transmission as a daily driver on the interstates can be done but get used to the slow lane and feeling like a moving road block, lower fuel economy and an engine that is spinning a lot of rpm's. An overdrive system like the Gear Vendor overdrive can be added to the tail shaft of your transmission, is easy to install and a robust unit. It maybe something to look into if the interstate is calling your name with frequency

Insurance is relatively inexpensive even with full coverage due to the vehicles "book" value. With that said, the value of the square body trucks have gotten to the point that their replacement value is much higher than what traditional insurance would pay out.
