Frankly this is really impressing me, way way above the ganzo performance

So glad you did this video, I got one for my son a few weeks ago and we beat the crap out of it over the past couple weekends. It blew me away how well it performed and how good the edge and spine held up! Great design and felt great in the hand when doing various tasks. That knife is a monster!

I bought one just because I loved the esthetic of it and it was a more functional (for me and my lower skill set) than the Becker BK2, which is a little too chonky for its length for me. My edge came with a ton of little burs but was a quick fix. I really LOVE this knife. I love finding cool budget knives like this!

I went to blade boot camp with her sister Flissa. She had double D's....er, "D2". She wasn't very sharp, but more of a robust girl than some others. She was reliable and could prep my food pretty good, but ultimately she didn't make the cut.

We need clone knives. No different than going to the grocery store and buying the store brand (clone) over the name brand. It allows people who may not be able to purchase the more expensive to enjoy something. It also makes the name brand work a little harder to be a little better.

Thats a great sharpening tool, ive had mine for about 2 years now ,i carry mine wrapped in a bandana. You can easily put a ferro rod, and striker wrapped up with it. Too

I got one with the wood grips for twenty bucks! I like it. Use it for stuff around the yard and it does everything I ask of it. It's a good knife.

Work Sharp field sharpener fan here. Agreed, it's an amazing little sharpener. Worth every penny. I use mine for all my small to medium blade sharpening needs.

I liked your comment about getting one as a project knife. Shoot, I've paid more just for a blade blank out of 1075 to fool around with. It strikes me as a good starter knife as well for a boy scout or really anyone just getting into bushcraft/camping knives. I have two of the Worksharp Field Sharpeners. I keep one in my SUV. I can't tell you how many times I've used it to sharpen dull kitchen knives for my wife's family. They think I do knife magic with it.

So cool you reviewed this knife! i picked one up in green micarta a couple of months ago as a project knife and i absolutely love it. i put blue g10 liners in the handle and used tons of elbow grease at the stones to make it almost a full convex. it's scratched to shit from that but i dont care and thats great haha. i honestly love the sheath just because it's simple and performs its funtion well. it's the type of thing that really makes you wonder why any more expensive or reputable brands could ever get it wrong (victorinox venture & bps bushmate...). i put stropping compound on the back of the belt loop where theres raw leather too. ive become a ''buy five $20 knives instead of one $100 knife'' kind of guy so this was an awesome find

this D2 knife is awesome, got two - throws a spark and is sharp out of the box, handle is somewhat small to grip. pisses other overpriced knife makers because it's slammin cheap and finally an affordable option banger - nice to see a thorough GT review, thanks!

I use a worksharp for everything. I have one in the kitchen and one in my pack. Excellent tool for people who just want the sharp blade without having to be an expert knife dork.

I bought the work sharp field sharpener three years ago just to keep in my pack for hikes. I soon went to it for all my sharpening needs. It’s really the only thing I use except for its strop strip. I use a larger 2 1/2 inch strop block because it’s easier and it saves the little one for actual field sharpening. That being said, I don’t have a set of nice diamond stones, or an expensive platform style sharpener like the precision adjust, or I would probably use those. However, this little sharpener has done everything I’ve wanted it to do! Everyone needs one. I do not work for or receive compensation from Work Sharp. 😂

That Work Sharp Field Sharpener is amazing. With gardening season upon us, I know what I'm going to give my wife so that she stops using my nice knives. At least I hope she does. She's developed a bittersweet attachment to my Reiffs.

My wood handled one just showed up. Seems like that handle will take some linseed and wear in nicely like an old axe handle. But I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the three handle options. Kudos to the maker for offering all of them as options so us knife geeks don’t have to go to battle over why [insert your hated handle material here] sucks so bad. Excellent review, by the way. Looking forward to trying it out. Interesting to see makers going back to the chunky, thick blade stock of about ten years ago; wonder if that pendulum is starting to swing back. You are correct about the sheath. I forget what they call that, but it’s basically leather made by compressing leather fibers. It didn’t come off the animal like that! I *think* what we call “real leather” is technically “full grain leather” and this stuff is “top grain leather”. Or something like that. Happy to be corrected. But, as you said, quite easy to find another sheath and the package is still a good value, even with the less-than-ideal sheath.

I bought 2 of these a few months ago. One in micarta, and the other in wooden handle. Very nice blades for $20 each 👍👍

these knives are perfect for a vehicle get home bag or something like that where it wont get used a lot and may get stolen. i have a several moras, the cheap ones as well as a larger and more expensive one and while that one is lighter, this thing is way more durable feeling.

The worksharp field sharpener is essential. 👌👌

Im sure the damage is from the edge being overheated. On a zero grind the edge gets thin and doesn't take a lot of grinding to ruin the temper. If Spyderco did it on their Nalakka knife, I'm sure a $20 knife had the same thing happen. Do a few sharpenings before saying it the grind or the steel being too weak. That said, D2 isn't the best choice for a scandi grind. You need fine grained steels with high edge stability like Aeb-l of 14c28n, not D2 with its chunky carbides.

I've found that using a ceramic rod to put on a micro bevel then stropping it does well for edge durability 🙂

I own the micarta version and these knives (or at least mine) come with a crazy crisp spine that throws sparks with the best of them. Absolutely no problem using a ferro rod or getting fluff from fat wood or anything of that nature.

Gotta check out the work sharp rolling sharpener. Im a cook and it's awesome for kitchen knives. But also works for folders and fixed blades.

Great review. 1. I like the expression "project knife". Most people don't have the skills to do a modification or a knife or a sheath. Most of your subscribers could take a simple knife and transform it into a very good survival knife. 2. The tests are standard. The skills are in the person and not the tool. A kid in Scandanavia is given a $15 Mora knife, and has the skills to survive without chopping wood. 3. D2 steel, etc. You gave a very good demonstration of why understanding the grind of a knife and how to create it will usually be more important than the steel.

I have a flissa fixed blade it was around 11 or 12 bucks ,haven't done your torture test, probably a light task knife ,mine .

That forward lanyard hole may be useful if someone wanted to lash the knife to a pole.

I have one and did the same to it. Bit honestly all thats required for a micro bevel is a few passes on ceramic or fine diamond. Stropping will do the same.

Thanks for this video. It tipped the scales for me between this knife and the mora. I want to be able to make my own scales out of wood from West Africa, where I have lived most of my adult life. We leave West Africa in a few weeks, and I've left most all my tools behind (long story). So I'm rebuilding a little bushcraft/carving kit. Wherever God takes us in this life, you can always pick up a stick and create something. I loved your #goodfriday message too.

I own a Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener. I even got a carrying case for it, which held it with room to spare, so I added an Arkansas stone and a small Walmart stone to the mix. The cheapo Walmart stone turned out to be great at one thing, IMHO, which is straightening out rolled edges on my 5160 knives before finishing them up with the Worksharp.

I have one of these. Sharp as hell. Solid.

Another great vid as usual. I started with the wood scales and ended up buying the other two as well. I was a little skeptical about the D2 and heat treatment, but overall I'm impressed! I ordered a few of the Flissa pocket knives out of curiosity, and they're pretty decent too. A little lower quality but just as smooth opening as a Civivi.

There is a very good reason noone YOU KNOW carries a scandi everyday. Same reason your kitchen knife doesnt look like your chisel.

Heck, the sheath is worth $25. I see they have it in a green micarta as well. I might just have to snag one. I know I love all of my BPS knives. This one will be a nice addition to my budget world.

I'm a budget baller and have been looking at this knife for a little bit. I’ve really been hoping you would do a review on it, and I'm so glad you did. I have a Flissa folding knife and i feel like they have to just be assembled in China, not actually made there from the ground up. The quality seems way too nice on them compared with the other cheap crap I've handled from China previously. But i can't find any information to say otherwise.

Flame thrower level to describe a 90° spine is the best metaphor I have heard to date.

The one I reviewed came with a wire burr with burnt steel that's a bit deceptive to the naked eye . I recommend out of box too strop it on a hard board . Give it a slight convex polished edge, and it works great . $22 is insane for this knife .

Best way to check leather is to literally burn it and see if it boils or shrinks. Synthetics will boil.

G'day Aaron, funny you should mention this one. I was after a cheap and cheerful scandi/bushrafter, (with a larger blade than a Mora) to take fishing, to cater for a small fire and mess around with shaping wooden lures and such ....... and who cares if it drops in the drink ; ). no probs with their filleting jobs, so ended up with a Martini hunter, ....... first time feather sticking, the rat tang shifted inside the rubberised handle and now sits 10-15 deg off true. @ the price point, not even worth the shipping cost, or my time, to send it back. This one could well fill the role, even though it's not a stainless. Thanks for the look mate. Cheers Duke. Btw; I get on rather well with the standard BK scales. The particular contouring fits me like a glove ; ) but yeah in fairness, the texture, or lack of it, aint exactly helpful ; )

I wonder if D2 fixed blades is going to be the new standard steel for budget knives. I do like the G10 scales on that thing tho. For that price it seems like a good value and useable knife.

It seems like a pretty good deal, Aaron. The D2 doesn't work for me in my always hot, always humid tropical environment, but everything else about this seems great. Side Note: I have a WS Field Sharpener, but ever since you put me onto the Sharpal hand-held diamond sharpeners, I've barely touched the Work Sharp. Matter of fact, I just picked up another Sharpal.

Interesting about the micro-bevel. I always thought that was something purists avoided. I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker and as a result a lot of my Scandi knives have a micro-bevel. It seems to work fine. I didn’t realize I was adding durability by having a micro-bevel.

I'd buy it. I like D2. It'd be interesting to see how it would hold up in general use around my house and yard. It looks like a good knife. The scales look good and are of good material. The blade is full tang. Heck ya I'd buy it and probably will. Thanks for the awesome and excellent review.

So far as D2, this is actually quite decent. Scandi in D2 is a terrible idea in general. With a micro bevel...probably will toughen it up a lot.

I use the Work Sharp Pocket Sharpener. Dont have the field one like yours. However, it does about the same 80% or so of all my touchups that I need. And super small to slip into my pocket and go with me anywhere. Not to mention, Work Sharp has hands down the absolute best customer service. Also have the Precision Adjust sharpener too for that other 20% for when I do need to get more out of my sharpening. I've had this blade in my cart now for many many months and haven't pulled the trigger yet.

crazy how I saw this exact blade a couple months ago and debated getting it just to throw in a bag as a potential backup and here ol' GT has an official review for it. hells yeah! also will add, 5 years strong with my field sharpener and just as happy with it now as I have been, I also HIGHLY recommend the work sharp field sharpener

I purchased mine about two months ago because of the reviews. Out of the three handle options i chose the wood handle, I must say i haven’t been disapointed. I do have other bushcraft knives but honestly for 20 bucks ? You can't go wrong for a bushcraft beater knife that performs.

I put a microbeval on my Big Gulp cup.......sorry, I'm thirsty.😫 Great tip on putting a microbeval. It's interesting how that works.

A good knife at a great price 👍 Good review and a good tip for easily modifying the Scandi grind 👍👍 Personally, I like a Scandivex much more for this reason.

I'm happy to see you take a look at a true budget option. I've got my high end blades for sure, but a knife like this has its place, for kids, for abusive uses, back up kits, etc. the budget options are good to have. There's a lot of good content out there about them, but you and Stassa are some of the few doing quality testing instead of abuse til failure types and I personally enjoy it, even if my wallet disagrees.

I literally just got the micarta handle one last week. Mine has an imperfection on the edge I haven’t had time too do anything with yet. 😂

I have the worksharp field sharpener. Excellent for the Everyman. It seems like KME or similar sharpeners are more at home creating boutique refined edges and the worksharp field sharpener is for the user. I love mine. and for $35? It’s a no brainer to get shaving sharp (who wants to even use a mirror polish edge???)

I still prefer a zero grind on my Mora companion to a micro bevel. If it has s slight damage to the edge , ill just hone it on my dog bone Lansky ceramic stone. That's where i feel the Sandvik steels shine, their so easy to touch up. This knife does look really good though 😊

Hey man. I did the reverse by removing the micro bevel from my Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110. It works waaaaay better and since it's 80CRV2 steel, I don't get any damage to my blade. Thanx for the video my Bladed Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲

I have got a couple very inexpensive, janky, 'clone' knives that I love and have taken a beating but keep kickin back.

I suspect this particular generic knife is also sold under the NedFoss brand. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that. One factory, many brands.😅 That doesn’t make the product bad, but you don’t know what you are buying.

Life is too short to use fakes. Ps. Our Stanley mugs are same in size and colour 🍻

Anytime wanting this type of knife for a project that's cheap and USA made, go to your local hardware store and grab an Old Hickory. Get a bigger one for under $20. Use the cold removal process to reduce the blade. Have your way with building a new handle. The only drawback is there's no sheath... But .... Your need that skill too. Make it 💯 yours, USA made❤️

Good call. I've done this several times. People will come to me wanting a good belt knife that's personalized but don't have 300 dollars to fork out for what's out there. I can buy an old hickory butcher knife from Ace hardware and shape it and re handle it and make a sheath and sell them a knife they are proud of for a fraction of the price.

try a scandi vex grind... best of both worlds

I have this knife, with the black G10 scales. I like it, though I have yet to take it camping and really use it. I've red bad reviews of the micarta handle, the G10 scales are pretty good IMHO. I'm also going to pick up the wooden handled one, which comes with a brown leather sheath. Also, because this is a Chinese mystery brand, there is every possibility that they will do a single run of these and they'll be gone, so if you think you might want one, I recommend buying one soon-ish while you can still get it.

Update: I got the wood handled one, and I really like the handle on that one. It feels really good in the hand, and has better grip texture. Considering that it's also less expensive, I think the wood handle is the one to get.

Beckers have me really conflicted. Eugene is a great guy and it’s a bulletproof knife. I hate, HATE Cutco/Kabar….i refuse to support an MLM

Actually, im all for buy USA, and screw Chinesium. But i felt like i needed to support this company. They are building a good product at a reasonable price. That needs to be rewarded, no matter where they call home.

Facts and it’s raising the bar. If this company can do G10 and bolts instead of plastic then other companies should be able to do so. Especially since we’re paying premium for other companies.

Ive seen peeps in third world countries bush with kitchen knives. Cant imagine cave men having any knifes but they certainly bushed proving having anything is better than NOthing.😊✌🏻🍻

I don’t get D2 steel with a scandi grind. D2 chips easy and so does a scandi grind. Personally I want D2 steel to go away. Give me VG10, 14c28n, 154cm, Aus10, over D2 pretty much in every scenario.

d2 can be chip-prone but not so much on such a thick scandi. It's actually decent as a bushcraft knife. For me it's simply too hard, I want field tools to be able to be field sharpened with things I could potentially find in nature. I would much rather have 14c28n, aus10, 1095, sk5, 1095.... I'd pass on 154cm

I totally agree and I'm not even into scandi grinds.

I have an elk ridge Bushcraft cheapie and day one of field testing the scales flew off on the 5th throw. I gotta go back down with a magnet for the hardware. I'm debating on what type of mod on the handle but it is what it is with these cheapies

Doesn’t bother me. Hundreds of fixed blades and never had one break under the scales.

I don't think a scandi grind knife should have blade stock over 1/8th inch or ~3.2mm (coincidentally thats what mora uses for robust models). There's so much steel with a scandi grind that even my mora companion at 2.5mm feels strong. The 511 at 2mm helps the poor slicy-ness of a scandi grind, but thats pretty thin.

I agree, although I have used this knife and the bevel height makes it work pretty well. That said I much rather have a 3mm scandi from Brisa 😁 , there really is no reason for all that steel.

About like a mora maybe.but moras are much better steel.this a starter knive.

Lansky turnbox does better for me, I would think better for you since the way you sharpen never keeps your blade flush to the sharpening plate anyway.

Nice knife but a Becker not as much, benchmade bushcraft 162 a lot more likely.I had actually read an article that said that’s what it was modeled after.

*Might not actually be D2 steel. If it is the heat treatment is not done properly, always read negative reviews first*

for the price the heft and hardness is hard to beat, everyone serious about their knives is going to sharpen or hone it anyway. You shouldn't ever trust the edge from the factory regardless of the brand of price. Even my kitchen knives i hone before using them the first time.

I don't understand why knife tubers test out how good a knife is by splitting saplings and batoning wood chunks! Everybody does it and it isn't what a knife is designed for. I guess I can see testing it out for an emergency situation or survival situation to see if it will hold up, but a better test would be light cutting like rope or a tarp or cutting notches for traps but almost nobody uses it to field dress an animal or prep food or do camp chores with the knife. I bought one of these and it does knife things really well. I don't do hatchet things with my knife. I use a hatchet for that 😂

D2 is actually a really good steel. But is this clone really D2? You never know with these types of knives. Seems like it failed quickly making me wonder if it is really D2, or if they did something strange with the heat treat.
